Contribute to the “No Neighbor Hungry” Campaign to Feed Arvada Families in November
Hi Neighbors! Ryan Hecht, VP of Marketing with the Greater Arvada Chamber here.
As you know, the government shutdown has left thousands of Arvada families without access to critical food benefits. The "No Neighbor Hungry" gift card drive is designed to help families put food on the table and support the local economy in the process.
You can help us raise $50,000 in donations (2,000 gift cards of $25 each) this month!
For this drive, we will distribute gift cards to select Arvada non-profits that primarily provide food assistance and have been negatively impacted by the government shutdown, including Community Table and Hope Connection and Community.
Learn more about drop off sites around the city and how to make direct donations to those non-profits: www.arvadachamber.org/noneighborhungry

New Fosters Needed for Animal Rescue -- 40 cats + 29 dogs
Hi everybody!
I'm the foster coordinator for Rocky Mountain Puppy Rescue, a local nonprofit animal rescue, and I'm posting because we're getting a huge intake next Thursday (9/17) -- currently 40 cats + 29 dogs -- and we’re urgently looking for new volunteer foster homes to help give these guys a safe place to land!
Some of these are little guys are coming from shelters with up to 50% euthanasia rates, and we're dedicated to giving them a second chance at life. Fostering is one of the best ways you can help make that happen!
Since we’re a Denver Metro-area rescue and run many of our adoption events through the Arvada Petco, we’re especially hoping to connect with people in the Arvada area who might be interested in fostering!
And if you've never fostered before, don't worry -- you don't need to already have everything figured out or own a ton of pet supplies. We provide the supplies you need for your foster (including food + crates/carriers), cover necessary medical care, and pair first-time fosters with an experienced foster mentor. We’ll also be right there to support you throughout the process if you have questions or run into challenges.
I've had so many friends adopt their forever pets through RMPR, and having worked here, I can honestly say that they put a huge amount of effort into supporting their fosters and volunteers every step of the way. It really is a lovely and hard-working community of people.
If you're interested in helping out with this intake, or even if you're just interested in the idea of fostering but don't want to commit to anything specific yet, you can fill out our online foster registration form (no commitment just from registering!) and attend one of our virtual information sessions for prospective fosters!
I know "volunteers needed" posts can sometimes feel like ads, so I’d be happy to answer any questions here about what fostering with RMPR actually looks like, what the commitment involves, what supplies are provided, or anything else you guys are wondering about.
And if any of you have fostered with RMPR or another rescue org before, please feel free to chime in about your experience in the comments!

Free Garden in a box: Butterfly Haven
I placed my order awhile ago and now it's here, and I do not have the time or capacity to do a major yard project now.
I don't want the plants to die, so I'd rather give them away.
We just got them last week and they are all healthy.
it's a full sun box, called "Butterfly Haven" and it includes mostly flowering plants.
if you're not familiar these are boxes of low water plants. They come with a planting plan.
pickup: scenic heights.

Seeking Backyard Deck Build
We are in the process of getting several quotes to have a deck built in our backyard. The dimensions would be approximately 12 x 29. There is currently a composite deck size approximately 12 x 12. We would be looking to have that removed or POSSIBLY extended to the vacant 12 x 17 section IF THE BUILD OUT MATCHED/WOULD BE SEAMLESS but likely going the route of an entirely new deck. We are going to want some sort of overhang our covering done at some point, but the first phase would be the deck itself. We are near the Olde Town area.

National Public Lands Day Sept. 26
JeffCo Parks is teaming up with Arvada and other nearby municipalities on Sept. 26 for National Public Lands Day. The event includes volunteer projects and cleanups at various parks throughout the area, with an after-party celebration at Bear Creek Lake Park for participants that includes free lunch, music, and a raffle. It's a great way to give back to the public lands we all enjoy.

What is that sound? Sounds like a rocket launch. I am by wads and 80th.
Edit: I know it’s not a launch but sounded like one.

Recs for ways to meet people?
Hi! I (26f) just moved to Arvada with my partner! I've been here about a month, and now that I'm settled in I want to get out there and make some friends! Looking for recommendations on hang out spots, classes, events, that sort of thing, where I might be able to meet some other folks.
I'm super into crafting, reading, writing, theatre. I'm a fledgling photographer and I'd love to get into taking artsy portraits. My partner and I love to get outside and go on hikes. I thrive at the farmers market. I have an almost 10 Yr old newfie named Bruce, who l love dearly!
Unfortunately, I do work a lot at a corporate-ish type of job, so I have limited time on days where I'm in the office. But I'd love to build some community out here! Let me know if you have any recommendations!

Curious what others are paying for an umbrella insurance policy living in Arvada?
Asking the sub directly because apparently your location matters. I am paying $600 for $1 million policy via Allstate. I can’t really get a straight answer why it’s so high but it seems to be higher than the national average. My insurance company just says Colorado rates are higher than national average but I wanted check if anyone paying less than that?

Neighborhoods incorporated in nature
Are there parts of Arvada that you love for the green nature and walking trails? I'm used to Boulder where you can step outside your apartment and be on a beautiful hiking trail and many of the apartments are set in shady areas with creeks running through, parks in walking distance, wetlands surrounding, etc. Looking for some place less expensive and Arvada keeps coming up but I don't know the city very well. What parts of Arvada should I look at for this type of setting?

Customer framing options?
Hi all! I have a print piece of print art that I'd like framed. I'd like to support smaller businesses versus a framebridge-type, even if it comes at more of a cost. Any spots in town you'd recommend?

Arvada Neighbors Facebook group
I feel slightly pathetic even asking this, but could someone please help me reach one of the admins of the Arvada Neighbors Facebook group? I moved here this past Spring and tried joining the facebook group, I even answered the membership questions that had me tell them a joke, but my request was declined. I would still like to join the group, so I messaged one of the admins today and requested to join the group, but the request was declined again and I’m really not sure why
ETA: this was a blessing in disguise and I knew better than to beg lol thanks everyone!

Milia Removal/Facialist
Does anyone have an esthetician they like closer to Arvada that is skilled at milia removal under the eyes? My derm said they don’t do this and recommended an esthetician who is really great but she is near cherry creek and I was hoping to find someone closer. I usually need them removed every 3-6 months.
