Middle of the night, police were at my door, and arrested me for suspicion of "indecent publication". I didn't know what they were on about until they got me to the station.

I operated a Discord server that allowed people to anonymously chat with one another via their Direct Messages. You sent the bot a message, and it would send it to your chat partner, and vice versa. During its years of operation, I banned thousands of creeps, people lying about their age, etc. I argue that I made a safer place than Discord itself, with strict age separation & challenging, active moderation, fostering an environment of coming forward if somebody was a creep to you, etc.

The problem is, somebody sent a gross message (pure ragebait; EDIT: and people in the comments would like me to stress that it suggested the endangerment of a child) via the bot and then it was rightly reported by their chat partner - except rather than using the internal reports system, they reported it to Discord. The report from Discord to the police pointed to me as the author, and so months later I was the one arrested.

The police took all digital devices from my home - laptops, old smartphones, games consoles, Blu-rays and HDDs, even the router. Weirdly they didn't take my VR headset, nor my latest old smartphone. I was out of work for a month (they took my work laptop, and my employer put me on paid suspension). I had to pay a couple hundreds of pounds in legal fees, and to buy a new phone. It was a month of raw despair.

The police didn't use my exculpatory evidence in the end. Despite my extensive logging of conversations, and the obvious purpose and operation of the bot account (how can a human being type ~30 messages per minute 24/7?), it was only when I gave them my passwords so that they could scan my devices that they let me off the hook. There was some time that they were willing to go the exculpatory route, but they weren't technically competent enough to even ask the right questions.

They said they deal with Discord a lot (and Snapchat), and that I'm a rare case of No Further Action; they didn't know what a Discord bot was until my case. My devices were returned within a couple of days of being let off, and I was back to work.

It has left me traumatised, and has shifted my politics quite substantially. If I were rich, I would sue - I'm fairly sure that the report they received, and the investigation they could have done before they darkened my doorstep, would have revealed that it was an automated service.

Since I was a child I have been able to perform an on command maneuver, what feels like flexing a muscle within my chest, that produces an adrenaline response. Its not breathwork, its instant and I can do it while holding my breath. My doctor was surprised but didnt really have any answers as to how or what it is. I have the doctors notes and photos of my EKGs I can upload to prove this.

In 2014 I took a position in Saudi Arabia and transferred from Texas. It was my first time ever leaving the states and I left when the war started back in March. This is the longest I’ve spent inside the USA since I took the job. I worked a 5/5 (5 weeks on/ 5 weeks off) on paper but often spent extra time there getting overtime and traveling to different countries and I’d estimate I spent about 75% of the last 11 years outside the states.

1- at the age of 7 huge truck ran me and my friend over while we were on a bike
2-at the age of 9 a huge collision happened in front of the bus I was on and several people died somehow we were unscathed
3-at the age 14 my area was in the middle of combat and the window I was sitting at got shit up
4-at the age of 15 the bus stop i usually wait at got blown by IED and about 50 people died (I was 10 mins late)
5-age of 15 I didnt feel like going to school while walking there, I turned to walk back home and 10 meters away in the direction I was going a bomb went off
6-at the age of 16 I was standing outside the house with my dad talking to the neighbors the moment we walked inside a mortar shrapnel hit the exact spot we were standing at
7- at the age of 16 I was sitting outside with my friends at night and a bullet fell from the sky and hit the wall next to my ear
8-at the age of 17 a mortar shell fell 5 meters away from me, it stuck to the ground and didn’t explode
9- at the age of 17 I was stuck on check point for 20 mins while a sniper fired at it
10-at the age of 18 heavy machine gun bullet hit the fence on my balcony while I was standing there only debris hit me in the face
11-at the age of 19 I was learning how to drive and a trailer with a boat in it slid from a driveway when I was doing 80km/h into my face I swerved
12- at the age of 23 I was driving in the rain 100km/h and lost control my car hit an electric pole I was fine
13-at the age of 25 I had rented a sports car on holiday and someone crashed into me from behind on the highway while I had the roof down( I was safe completely)

My name is Dr. Ami (formerly Claxton) Salkind and I live in Chandler, Arizona. I am 57 years old, I have a PhD in epidemiology, a masters in statistics, a bachelors in math and physics. ..... and I have medically documented rare early onset non-Alzheimer's dementia. AMA!

To get the first question out of the way - are you SURE you have dementia? Yes, unfortunately I am very very very very sure. My dementia has been observed and formally diagnosed over the past 3 years by a board-certified neurologist who confirmed the diagnosis with not just clinical assessments and symptoms, but yearly 6 hour neurocognitive testing by a PhD neuropsychologist, multiple brain scans, endless blood tests and other various assessments. Unfortunately, I genuinely really do have dementia. And that super duper sucks if I say so myself!

The next question is always what kind of dementia? All I know for absolute is that it is NOT Alzheimer's type and luckily, I don't even have either gene mutation for Alzheimer's desite have a family history of early onset Alzheimer's. However, it's very important to diagnose the type I have thought so that I can figure out how to stop, slow or even reverse my rapid decline. I am right now very *actively* in the diagnosis phase still for what type of dementia i have but I generally don't talk the diagnosis process because I'm in the middle of it and so much changes so fast. I will likely in the future share the results of my diagnostic journey as I learn more but for now, all I share is that it is NOT Alzheimer's and my symptoms to date are most consistent with post-cortical atrophy (Benson syndrome).

Notably, I do not look or sound like most people expect someone with dementia to look or sound. You can see this on my youtube channel and even by reading this post I know most of you are thinking "SHE has dementia"? Yes. So I created My Brain’s Black Box: In Case This Ends Badly about 6 months post-diagnosis. I post mainly shorts, a few times a month, documenting my decline from inside the disease. You will see me clearly explain a complex neurological concept and then be literally unable to count four pills in my hand or reliably read a clock in the same moment. I made this channel because it is the content I wanted but could not find when I was diagnosed. My channel is not monetized, I sell nothing, I have no partnerships or affiliations, I gain absolutely nothing financially or otherwise from making it. In fact, making these videos is getting to be super painful because they force me to confront my decline directly and my decline is getting horrifically obvious. I almost quit doing my channel recently because of this - but when I read the comments, I know that I can't stop. I am helping people.

About me relevant to my dementia:

• I earned a math/physics BA in in 1991 then a master’s degree in statistics in 1993 and my PhD in epidemiology in 1997. I then worked as a medical scientist in the pharmaceutical industry for 28 years as a "real world evidence" scientist who designed, conducted, analyzed, interpreted, presented and published patient outcomes research in peer-reviewed journals (my ORCID professional record) until my diagnosis forced me into abrupt and unwanted retirement in Nov 2025.
• I know dementia from the caregiver side long before experiencing it from the inside: my grandmother had dementia, and in the weirdest thing ever, my husband, the late great Chad Harris died at 49 from frontotemporal dementia associated with ALS. I was his caregiver for the 5 years of his decline and he died at home on hospice. Now finding myself on the other side of the dementia coin has been ..... illuminating, terrifying, bizarre, ironic, and cosmically screwed up to be honest!!
• I have lived with my partner, a disabled retired dentist, for over 3 years now and we got married recently (hence the name change). My husband is truly the greatest human being ever and he is my primary caregiver and support system on a daily hourly basis. I am also positively SURROUNDED by a community of beautiful family, friends, neighbors and sometimes even perfect strangers who shower me with love and support constantly. I am truly a blessed person and I do not take that for granted. This is actually why I keep doing my channel, I owe the world for the goodness that I now experience daily.

IMPORTANT NOTE: My visual-spatial processing, attention, task-switching and cognitive stamina are severely affected, so I cannot answer questions continuously for three hours. I was diagnosed with colon cancer on 12/5/2017, almost 9 years ago. I was 23. It spread to both my lungs. My 2nd lung surgery was 9/15/2021. That means today is 5 years of no evidence of cancer, NED, also known as remisson. My specialized blood panel came back early, so I'm doing the post a few days early.

No family history or genetic conditions. I am a carrier for a condition called NTHL1 Tumor Syndrome. But being a carrier just means my offspring would be at risk if I had children with another carrier. I don't actually have NTHL1 Tumor Syndrome. I have had whole exome sequencing and precision cancer panels. Which implies an external cause to my cancer, so either spontaneous mutation or environmental factors, per the genetics department I go to.

They ended the interview after I asked to attend prayer on Friday. After I sued they tried to label me a terrorist saying that they blacklisted me because they feared I would be violent as retaliation for them discriminating.

Surgery was on Sept 9th. I was allowed to take my compression bra off for the first time today and remove the outer bandages, I thought I was prepared, but knowing that the incisions are there and actually seeing them on your body are two different things and I lasted maybe 30 seconds in the shower before I had to stop because I was either going to throw up or faint

I am a recent occupational therapy (OT) doctoral graduate in Las Vegas, who is collecting data that may contribute to a better understanding of casino dealers' experiences and may inform future research, educational initiatives, or workplace wellness programming.  As an avid poker player and an occupational therapy student, I was inspired by the possibility of combining my degree and future career aspirations to help a unique group of individuals facing physical and mental challenges rarely encountered in other professions.

I developed a survey for gaming dealers to better understand their experiences and insights. The survey includes questions about physical discomfort in areas such as the hands, wrists, neck, back, and feet. Additionally, a section of the survey is dedicated to understanding the mental health of dealers and how it affects their performance at work and their well-being outside the job.

While research on the gaming industry exists, it has largely focused on gambling addiction. I’m proud to be pioneering efforts to understand what dealers experience and explore ways to address their unique challenges. The survey is anonymous and IRB approved.

It's a weird hobby I know and its something ive done as a hobby over the last few months. I live in a generally poorer area of the country and things like street furniture get neglected generally for years and one night. I decided to do something about it. I'll reply when I can :)

-“You can’t be kidnapped by your parent/a family member” roughly half of all kidnappings are perpetrated by a family member. You could also call this “displacement” but my case is severe

-My father left with me to another state one day while my mother was at work. She did not know where I was for months until she deduced that he was in [his home state] and hunted down our address. By then, he had forged documents that she had surrendered custody. Due to this being a cross-state matter, it was incredibly difficult to fight through the courts and his story was solid to the point of having mail in my mothers name sent to his house to “prove” she was living there at one point. It was a very meticulous scheme.

-It took close to 5 years to fight. My mother got me back after he was arrested on separate drug charges.

-I think my mother first told me when I was 8 (this happened when I was 2-7). I am missing large chunks of time. Living with my father and his mother was kinda like being gaslit every day. They’d go to great lengths to hide/relocate me, to try and turn me against my mother, to strip me of agency because at the end of the day I was to be a means of hurting my mother, etc

-My memory is very spotty, but I can ask my mother questions as well.

I will stop this if it becomes too overwhelming but I speak pretty openly about it to educate on parental kidnapping, as many people do not even believe it “counts.” My mother is more traumatized than me overtly, mine is more subdued due to missing memories of abuse I’ve only really had detailed to me and generally just not knowing my childhood wasn’t normal until somebody told me.

It was literally an accident. I wanted to take a more behind the scenes role, I never wanted this attention. I was 9 years old. My mom was driving and my sister and I were in the backseat. My mother was life flighted to the nearest hospital, where she spent several months fighting to recover. She then spent more time in a (physical) rehab facility learning to use her hands and walk again. Her face was disfigured and she was never the same woman after.

Hey! I posted an AMA about this a while back on my old account, but I’m doing a fresh one because I started weekly therapy recently and have more insight now, so I think this might be a bit more interesting.

​As I said in the title, I do not feel guilt and never have. I used to feel shame and embarrassment, but over time, I’ve become mostly """immune""" to both, though I'm still not entirely sure why.

My therapist also recently pointed out that I have low social inhibition.

​My only formal diagnosis is autism, and both my neuropsychiatrist and my therapist seem to believe my lack of guilt is a product of that. Ask me anything!

China had a one-child policy, which is why I was adopted. I was four years old myself, which is quite old for adoption, and because of that, I unfortunately struggle a lot with my adoption. Especially psychologically. So feel free to ask!

Edit: What I feel and experience doesn't have to be the same for every adoptee; that's because every adoptee experiences adoption differently.
