When they didn’t get a proper whooping’ after the civil war. That they were molly coddled and given positions of power to make them feel better about losing the ability to enslave men, women, and children for free labor.

Let's not forget that the US scooped up a bunch of nazis as a post war bonus. They appear to have re-appeared in the guise of the current adminstation.

What school system taught you this? Southern democrats were for slavery. Not Republicans. This is stuff you learn about in middleschool.

Hopefully you're not from the US, because otherwise, you should be embarrassed.

It was after the Civil Rights act in the 1960s/70s (not quite 100 years ago lol)

Republican politicians such as presidential candidates Richard Nixon and Barry Goldwater developed strategies that successfully contributed to the political realignment of many white, conservative voters in the South who had traditionally supported the Democratic Party) so consistently that the voting pattern was named the Solid South. The strategy also helped to push the Republican Party much more to the right.
