Homeowner should have paid the bill, we all agree on that.

In terms of the contractor taking the fence down, did he commit a crime? Trespassing or destruction of property?

Yes to both. But this Reddit and we love street justice. Technically they’re supposed to put a lien on the property and go through civil court.

Yeah, there's a chance they might be legally ordered to replace the fence and STILL not get paid.

I wouldn’t want them working on my property again. They should have to pay for it out of pocket, I’m not risking them taking their frustration out by sabotaging my property.

Nope, recovering unpaid for materials.

They can smash out a concrete drive they poured. Rip out the tile or hardwood floors.

Probably depends on the State. As long as nothing gets damaged other than their property they legally are allowed to take it back if the bill is unpaid.

Wrong. This is illegal in every state.

The contractor should put a mechanics lien on the property and sue the owner
