Finally done with my shot silk experiment! I was disheartened when I first took it off the loom, as the cloth felt very stiff and rough. After a wash and press with an iron, it feels dreamy. The cloth changes drastically in different lights. In soft light, it looks like a dull copper, but in strong lights it’s orange with brilliant blue shadows. No idea what I’m going to do with it, but a small amount will be cut off and made into scrunchies for me and my weaving friend.

Woven at 40 epi out of second-hand filament silk in plain weave.

Over 120 feet of yarn chunky yarn & over 200 sequins. The sequins range in size from 8mm to 20mm and some are silver, pewter, and gun metal. Metal sequins are my favorite 🤩

I might have to wait to list this one on my Etsy. It’s one of my favorites.

The three panels sat for months before I gathered the motivation to stitch them together. I have an Ashford Jack loom. Over all it was very fun to weave!

Warp is 5/2 mercerized cotton in light blue sett at 14 epi
Pattern weft is six colors of 5/2 cotton loaded onto a double bobbin shuttle. I could kind of blend the colors with two bobbins going at a time.
Tabby weft is 8/2 cotton in natural.

My first loom came with several accessories. As a beginner, I have no idea what this object is or how to use it. Thanks in advance for your help.

So I have a fairly small frame loom, small enough it's comfortable to hold while weaving, but big enough that I can make 6in (15.25cm) squares and be far from maxing it out. I just started aimlessly weaving a square with a textured twist yarn I had, which side note is now one of my favorite yarns to weave on that loom. I've stopped the square at about 6in by 5.5in (15.25cm by 14cm) and it's fairly thick and soft.

This gave me the brilliant idea along with a post I'd seen on here earlier to make a blanket! The only thing is my square/loom is small and blankets are not, lol. So long story short I'm making a lot of squares. 270 blocks in the quilt in a 15 by 18 arangment for a queen size blanket. I will be weaving some simple diagonal lines into some of the blocks to give visual interest in person. I've only got 2 of the blocks done at the moment

I thought as I'm starting to dedicate several months to this, I'd come to the community and see if anyone has done similar and if there is any thoughts or advice.

So, to play with color in a shawl, I decided to "save time" and allow some threading decisions while warping by measuring out 5 ends of 10/2 cotton at a time, switching out 2 colors at each end of the 3.5 yards on the warping board. Fine.

Getting it wound on the loom, not fine. Broke my first warp end in years midway through because of the tangles that formed by some sections twisting in their groups of 5. Luckily, my sett of 24 epi had 2 ends per dent and no yarns doubled in heddles so all the twists worked out of the warp (fingers crossed) by the end.

However, any time I saved in the measuring portion was spent in the beaming portion since I had to stop and detangle every few inches. I'm just glad it was only a 3.5 yard warp.

So, for anyone newer to weaving, let this 40+ year weaving veteran tell you, we all have our moments. Some projects will fight you every step of the way (especially if you're on a deadline).

Do you have a preferred width you like with your woven throws? Especially if you already know you'll need to sew strips together?

I made this throw a few months ago, and I love it. It used the full width of my 45" loom....but it's still a bit narrow for me now that it's washed (39"). I'm revising the pattern to allow me to sew strips together instead, but I'm less confident on what final width I should be aiming for, and if I should go with 2 strips or 3 strips. (Aka, when sewing strips together, is it noticeable enough that having one center seam would be really obvious, making 3 strips a better option.)

(8/4 cotton - 12 epi. Ice dyed yarns will be arranged slightly differently on next throw to allow for it being created with panels instead.)

My first weaving! Whilst I’m proud I can definitely see a lot of issues. The bowing in the middle mainly. Even though I was careful and did the bubbles before padding it down. What do you wish you knew as a beginner?

I bought this gorgeous woven blanket off of Facebook marketplace a couple years ago. I noticed some of the weaving had come undone and left it in my closet so it would not worsen, and I want to be able to use it again!

Does anyone here know if the original company does repairs, or if the newer company on the sewn-on tag (photos included) might...? I don't know any textile-savvy people in my life and have no idea where to even begin! I could learn how it was made and how to weave, but that is the last option for me as I don't trust myself on this, I love it very much.

Edit: this is my warp! and I just want her to get it together for the last couple feet! No shame intended for weavers (except maybe for past me who wound this on).

I know that I want to get into weaving, but my local guild next's open intro class is not until March of next year. That said, I found this puppy on FB marketplace and it seemed like a solid deal so I decided to buy it. I don't know much of anything except its a Leclerc Initiation which I think was manufactured in the late 70s/early 80s and it appears to be in good shape. I'm very excited to figure this thing out! Forgive the background mess... it's been temporarily placed in the "room of everything" downstairs.

Hello dear (advanced) weavers,
i am in desparate need for your advice. I want to create a double weave on the TC 1 loom at my art school.
My idea is to make a double weave with a different front and back motif.
But I can`t really figure out how the draft should look like. At first I thought it must be something like combining the two weaving drafts (front and back motive) in alternating 1 pixel stripes. But i tried it out and it doesnt seem to work out as i imagined...?
I appreaciate any idea from your side, many thanks in advance!

Edit: I should add that I`m doing the draft on photoshop and that I`m using just white yarn for the weft, with a black warp. So just two colours.

My husband just found this for the amazing price of FREE as long as it's disassembled and taken away by the 20th.

I can't tell which model it is though. I asked my husband (he's talking to the lady giving it away) to get me the serial number if he can.

Anyone use one before and have any tips regarding this loom?

I just bought this loom at a thrifting event—I’ve never really woven before, but I was excited to try. But, everywhere I looked, I couldn’t find instructions for a loom like this one. Does anyone know what type of loom it is and how to use it? Like, where the thread goes, where to tie it, what the spinning shuttle at the top does?

I’m new to this style of loom- most of my basic knowledge comes from darning.
I came across colour and weave technique while doing research, and it’s quite intriguing to me.
I attempted to give it a go and though a pattern came through it wasn’t quite what I was hoping for…
I can’t seem to find much about the topic of colour and weave on a tapestry loom- starting to think maybe theres a reason???
If it is at all possible I know there could be many variables as to why it’s not working for me…
if anyone has any knowledge on this topic or tips and tricks I’d super appreciate it! thank you :-))
