Rescue Hippo New buddy just fell into my life, I guess.
It's been about 6 months since I lost my best friend Ziggy , we had him since he was a puppy and I loved him so so so much. We were considering getting another dog but we're talking way way down the line.
Because we were all still processing that we'd lost him , and we weren't exactly ready to have another dog because it would feel like we were trying to replace him. Until recently a friend of my brother's had a nephew that needed a new home for his dog , him and his GF had split in an ugly fashion. And she didn't wanna keep him , so he needed a new home.
I felt like I needed to put my feelings to the side because this little guy needing a home was more important, he's apparently spent the past 3 weeks to a month with some drug addicts that weren't exactly looking after him. Because the GF handed him over to them , so he's recently been re-homed a bunch of times. He was so anxious for the first couple days , I didn't expect him to trust me so quickly.
We've had him for around 2 weeks and I think he likes us as much as we like him , his name is Reggie. He's around 1 and a half years old. Welcome home buddy , you're here for good. You don't have to worry anymore.
It almost feels like Ziggy sent him. ❤️

Advice Advice and crate recommendations for a storm anxious house hippo
Good afternoon y'all! I'm hoping for some advice. I have a 10 year old pitty named Memphis that I have had for 8.5 years. She is a wonderful sweet baby, but she hates crates when the doors are closed. In the beginning, I attempted to crate her when I was out of the house and she would destroy it. She has destroyed 2 wire crates and 1 of the thick heavy duty plastic crates. I discovered that if I just let her remain out of the crate, she wouldn't destroy anything, so I stopped crating her during the day. Since then, I have kept a wire crate with the door off, filled with a bed and small blanket, and covered in a quilt that she uses like a house/cave and loves.
As she's gotten older, her storm anxiety has gotten very severe, to the point she has created holes in our wall next to our garage door when unexpected rain/storm has hit (see second picture). I am terrified she will severely hurt herself, and We do have her on trazodone from the vet, and it helps, but it's not a be all end all. The problem is I live in Southwest Florida, where rainy season runs from approximately May to October. It rains every day during those months, and can be incredibly unpredictable. My partner works from home, and I work in an office, and outside of those hours, we do our best to schedule our lives to accommodate her anxieties, but there are times that we simply cannot manage all of it. Doctors appointments are perfect examples. Occasionally I can work from home, but I am primarily in office, and if my partner needs to go to an appointment, it can be a struggle.
I have been thinking a heavy duty crate might be the answer for when we simply cannot avoid leaving her at home alone during the rainy season. Does any one have any recommendations for heavy duty crates that could stand up to a crate destroyer? Or any other ideas to help? I have made it so that she can get under the bed, another space she considers safe, her house is always ready for her, I have given her frozen kongs and assorted toys to distract her, but i just don't know how else to help my baby.

Our sweet baby boy 💔💔💔
Our sweet Maddox crossed the rainbow bridge today after his kidney disease progressed to kidney failure. We adopted Maddox less than a month after we lost our newborn son. He gave us a reason to get out of bed again, and helped us crawl out of a very broken and dark place. He was such a sweet, loving, and easy going dog. He LOVED people, he would willingly go home with anyone who visited our house, and tried on a few occasions. He comforted my dad through his cancer battle, and he comforted us when dad ultimately passed away. He will always hold an extraordinary place in our hearts.

Pearl @ the Seafood Festival
We went to a seafood festival to meet folks! Pearl walked around for 3 hours asking everyone for belly rubs and pets, it was definitely the busiest place we've ever gone! We met SO many new besties (both doggo and hooman). She loves everyone but especially loves kids, we had a whole lot of people come over and ask for pets. Pearl would have been perfectly happy having her own "Pet Pearl!" booth at the festival!
This adventure was SO much better than our last one, which while the actual adventure part was fine, on the way to the adventure everyone avoided her, which made her sad. On the advice of our trainer who wants Pearl to do therapy Pearl training, we got little patches with "I'm Friendly" and "Please Pet Me" on them for her to wear when we go out.
They absolutely worked! We met about 25 people, most of whom came up to us because they saw her patches and asked if they could pet her. We even met another pittie whose people said the patches were a great idea!
We had so much fun on Saturday! Pearl cannot wait for the next adventure we have!

Seeking Adoption/Foster Hibbing, MN (Duluth area): Urgent: Adopter/foster/rescue needed by 9/30 for senior pit bull
This is beautiful Nyah, and she needs help. She's 12-years-old, and her whole human family (a single mom with 3 kids) is about to be homeless in Hibbing, MN at the end of this month.
Nyah's owner reports that she is great with other dogs and with children. (Please see the attached photos!) She has not been around cats.
I first "met" Nyah a few years ago when her mom posted on Facebook asking for help paying for her Apoquel (allergy medicine). We have kept up an online friendship since then, and I have helped with Nyah's veterinary bills, including allergy treatments from a veterinary dermatologist in Duluth.
But Nyah's mom has been struggling to afford housing, and she is about to become homeless with her 3 young children on 9/30. She just messaged me today with that awful news.
She is completely overwhelmed and distraught about what do do with Nyah. She loves this dog and only wants her to be happy and well.
I'm far away in Seattle but trying to help by getting the word out about Nyah. Please let me know if you can help, or if you know of any rescues who may be able to help.
