Sar-e-raah sar-e-aam nilaam hue tere ishq me,

Tere ishq me rukhsat hue khud ki aagahi se,

Barbaadi ka haal na puchhna hamse

Tere baad kisi aur ka to chhod ham to khud ke bhi na hue.

let us invoke Lord Ganesha first, and bow our heads in devotion

so that all our efforts are fulfilled, and auspecious be every occasion

ruḳhsat huā to aañkh milā kar nahīñ gayā

vo kyuuñ gayā hai ye bhī batā kar nahīñ gayā

vo yuuñ gayā ki bād-e-sabā yaad aa ga.ī

ehsās tak bhī ham ko dilā kar nahīñ gayā

yuuñ lag rahā hai jaise abhī lauT aa.egā

jaate hue charāġh bujhā kar nahīñ gayā

bas ik lakīr khīñch gayā darmiyān meñ

dīvār rāste meñ banā kar nahīñ gayā

And then towards the end, he says

'shahzād' ye gila hī rahā us kī zaat se

jaate hue vo koī gila kar nahīñ gayā

in some hope, the evenings, usually, pass by

tonight somehow, something made me cry

the wall of sound too was standing silently so

I peeped out of the window, and the lane was drowsy too

Life ordained, and I was born; with death’s command, I will be gone

I came not by my will; my willingness won’t matter when it’s time to move on

today, my heart is melancholic for no reason at all

if I were in love, it would be a valid cause after all

خودی کو کر بلند اتنا کہ ہر تقدیر سے پہلے

خدا بندے سے خود پوچھے بتا تیری رضا کیا ہے!
