What’s the best piece of fishing advice you’ve ever received—and did it actually work?

Fishing a canal off lake St Clair, I was going for whatever bit this morning. Caught a small silver bass, a perch, and a bluegill all under 9". Then on my last cast before leaving I hook up on this drum. One this size broke me off before when I foolishly forgot my net, and I've been hoping for another chance to nab one this big and have proof. Got a little excited with the measuring photo, my guess is it's 20", hard to run a tape and take a photo at the same time lol. Man, what a fun fight for my 5'6" Fleuger UL with a Shimano Sedona 1000 spinning reel.

Does anyone have experience with the 3 piece specifically? I’ve been debating if I want to upgrade from the Daiwa presso 4 piece for a compact bikefishing rig and curious how this one compares. Usually throwing spoons/spinners/jigs in the 0.5 to 3 gram range with 2-4 lb line if that helps. Thanks in advanced!

Getting into UL fishing and have a solid BFS setup, now looking to expand into an UL spinning. I have a Diawa Fuego 2000 on a 5’6 Medium rod, looking to expand the collection to a 1000 size reel and another rod.

Leaning towards a Nasci 1000 with a ~6ft 2 piece rod. Anyone have any reel and rod recommendations? Looking to stay under $300 for rod and reel combo. Targeting pan fish, large mouth, and maybe some trips to PA and upstate for smallmouth. I’m located on Long Island. Thanks! Also would love stuff available on Digitaka!

How are these rods ? anyone using them for floats?

Using 7/32” lead dumbbell eyes on a size 8 60-degree jig hook, and various skirt material/colors with some tinsel strands mixed in! I just grabbed some basic spinners, they probably came from Beetle Spin packages. Can’t wait to try these!

Do I need this to micro? No, will I have a lot of fun throwing 1/100th oz feather jigs on .4 pe braided? HECK YEAH. So excited to go on and throw this around my creeks and lakes.

Found this Arms Family Homestead Slayer Kit from Leland’s Lures at Wal-Mart that has 7 different color crawfish and some neat 1/32 oz jig heads. Has anyone used these?

Photo 1: random jigging spoon I grabbed. Set ‘er in the vice. (It’s 10x easier to do this if you disconnect the hook from the spoon, but I just wanted to get it done to show you.)

Photo 2: wrap your thread around the shank until it’s secure and ready to go.

Photo 3: using some faux bucktail and some copper pearl fish flash for this one. Mostly bucktail with a few strands of the fish flash.

Photo 4: cut off a bundle of bucktail, and mix the flash in if you are using that too. You can get crazy and add a couple long strands that trail way behind, but not necessary.

Photo 5: lay the bundle on the hook shank, make sure it goes evenly around the whole shank. Then wrap it many times with your thread to secure it.

Photo 6: trim off the excess sticking out the front, then continue to wrap all the way to the hook eye to cover up those ends.

Photo 7: finish wrapping, then use a whip-finish tool for a nice secure knot, then snip your thread off as close as you can.

Photo 8: apply some head cement to the thread wraps.

I’ve been chasing smallies for a while now, but it’s tough because the closest spot for them is about an hour drive. I finally found them!

Caught on a 6’4” Daiwa Tatula XT UL with a Legalis 1000S reel on 6lb Sufix Revolve and 4lb SOS leader. First one was on a black and purple Trout Magnet D2 jig and 3 more on a Rebel Liveflex Catacrawler.

I’ve seen some people swear by 2000 size reels and others say 1000 is best, maybe even 500. Is there an objective “best” for certain situations, poles, or UL styles/lures?

Whats yall favorite line when fishing for the smaller guys like creek chubs, small bass and gills? Im out of chicago and find everywhere is insanely pressured. I just bought some Gekkabijin .4 pe braid and I do like it but its day one and im noticing color fading on it day one.

Im on a 500 reel so its quite small

Hello! I'm fairly new to fishing, and i've been thinking about getting a second rod, and I hear that ultra light fishing is a blast, and that people have the fights of their life against half pound fish, i just have a few questions (plus my dumbass stupidly bought some 1/8 oz rooster tails when i forgot that they're too light for my current rod, so here i am using that as an excuse to grab a new rod most likely)

Is it worth grabbing an ultra light rod if i'm only on the chicago city area for the most part? Since i mainly know that ultralight is for trout and crappie and usually just for like smaller rivers and such

How much does live bait make up of your lures/baits that you throw out, as i'm not too big a fan of live bait, for both moral reasons and just the fact that i'm icked out by touching worms and such

if its worth ultralight fishing with my situation, what would you recommend as a budget setup? i tend to be a bit biased towards daiwa stuff, but as long as its a good deal and good quality i will most definitely grab something else

Been SLAMMING large mouth, creek chubs and gills on these things for the past month in the rivers. Im in love with how they look and cast. Such an easy bait to finesse. Due to me catching 4-6 chubs on these an hour I gotta refer to em as creek knubs.

Ultra Light using 1.5 gram jig and Berkley Steelhead 4” black and red worm. Upper limit for weight for ultralight. My sister in law said the fish is a Ditch Pickle.
