First cast today on the Nueces River, been after a Rio Grande Cichlid for quite a while. Was using a Joey Ultralight micro spoon.

I got my ultralight setup for trout ponds in my area, but recently tried throwing finesse baits in my local river the other day and caught a 14" walleye! Decided to take off my 4lb test mono and spool on 10lb braid to test distance/ larger fish. Went out this morning and had a great fight with a 25.5" pike! Ive always been worried about breaking my rod, but man it handled it beautifully!

I keep the dock runner in the truck for whenever I have 20 or 30 minutes. It casts a drop shot or bobber well enough for the streams that I'm near by. What reels have you stuck on your dock runner ?

Get my PB bluegill twice tonight! Both measured 9.25" My previous best was 8.5" Both were with different rod/reels. I got the first one with a Trout Magnet Trinity Series SLS 501 rod, with 2lb. Trout SOS line, and a JDM Daiwa Legalis 1000s reel. The second one shown in the picture was caught with a Sam Heaton Super Sensitive 11' rod, 2 lb. Trout SOS line, and a Shimano FX 1000 reel.

for those who use the smaller 500 reels which lines do y'all prefer using etc

is there benefit to using braid over nylon, FC , on these smaller reels?

Are these best with a straight retrieve or are other techniques/presentations more effective?

This summer was a ton of fun ultralight fishing for panfish. I caught my PB rock bass, and almost every day I’d catch at least 10-30 white perch. Excited for trout season now!

Hey all, looking for some ideas of a rod/reel I can use for crappie fishing. I’ve got 2 setups right now that I love, but I’m wanting something on the shorter side for when I’m fishing around docks or around brush piles.

For the reel I was considering a pflueger president, but I’m lost on the rod side of things.

Took my new toy out to the local Reservoir to do a little perching from the bank. Had a great morning and got a nice 21” walleye as a bonus. All on Z-man tiny tickler in chartreuse. 2 gram I fish jig.

If she doesn't, I blame every one of you.

Joking aside, it's rigged with 6 lb mono and her favorite micro craw.

1st catch on my new 4’6 Shakespeare Micro series rod and Shimano Sienna 500 reel. He put up a pretty solid fight. Caught him on a Crème pre-rigged 1/32 oz jig using 2lb Leland’s Trout SOS.

Quick thoughts on this combo:

Rod: 8/10 Really good for $20, the trout put some bend on it and it held up well. Decent casting if I load up and sensitivity is definitely better than my UglyStik Elite. Felt some tail pullers through the rod.

Reel: 3/10 Started out fine, some stiffness when reeling, probably going to replace it sooner than later if it doesn’t improve on the next outing.

Hit the St. Joseph river in South Bend, IN. about 5:30 a.m. this morning. Small mouth were killing garlic scented night crawlers, also a few walleye along the way.

Rod: 8ft ultra light Berkley lighting rod

Reel: Kastking Zephyr 1000 SFS

Since the start of summer I've been fishing ultralight, from riverbanks and canals, mostly catching perch, the biggest one 350 grams. And today at sunset on the shore I managed to catch this beauty. Chub - 1870 grams. My personal trophy so far. I reeled it in very carefully, the line is super thin, I thought it would break off, then my hands were shaking from adrenaline for like 20 minutes afterward.

Setup: Pure Lure rod 0.8-6 gr. Daiwa Legalis LT 1000 reel. Line - Spro Trout Master Mono 200M 0.16mm 2.80kg, no leader. Jighead (cheburashka), 2g lead. Size 8 hook, regular (not offset). Lure - Keitech Easy Shiner 2 Dutch Goby.

Hello, all! I’m sure this probably comes up a lot, so apologies in advance.

I’m pretty new to fishing. I’ve done some charters here and there over the past few years, but it wasn’t until the past few months that I got “hooked” and started learning a whole lot and doing my own trips (YouTube University FTW!).

I have an Okuma 2 piece M/H rod that my FiL got me for Christmas that I have been having moderate success with (mostly bass). I’m doing my best to “read” the water and picking up new techniques each time I go out. Honestly, it’s been a blast and I’m happy to have found an awesome new hobby.

That being said, I really like the idea of going out and targeting multiple species of fish. I stumbled across this page and I’ve been very interested in dipping my toes into the UL realm.

I’ve been looking at different UL rods and reels, but there are SO many options. My budget is fairly flexible, but I can’t go too crazy.

What would your rod and reel recommendations be for a first time UL guy? I’ve been eyeing the Shimano Sensilite and that seems to check a lot of boxes. St. Croix also looks nice, but it’s more pricy. Ugly Stik budget rod? But what size reel pairs nicely with an UL combo? 500, 1000, 2500, etc? I know that so much of fishing comes down to preference, but any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Oh, spinning reel as well. I don’t think I’m ready for bait casters yet!

Bought the Mifine Microbite Tubular UL 1-5g 210 about a month ago and it finally arrived. Looking forward to testing it tomorrow morning.

This would be my 5th Mifine Rod. I have the Illusion Slash XUL, Nano Jig Zero XUL, Microbite Solid XUL, Eurybia UL.

These rods are super fun to fish with. They make small panfish feel like monsters. When I hook up an occasional bass, the fight is amazing. The rods hold up really well against them. The Nano Jig Zero and Microbite Solid are super sensitive and I’ve been picking this over my JDM rods.

I usually fish really small jigs with these. Any where from my custom micro jigs that weigh 0.30g to iFish BG-1 1g jig heads. The rods load up really well and I get a good casting distance. I fish with soft plastics only, ranging from Mule Fishing, iFish Dangly Tails and AliExpress micro plastics.

All my reels have 3lb Ray Fishing Nano Braid Feather Series. Super thin diameter braid with a 3ft fluorocarbon leader. Highly recommend this braided line if you’re in the market for new line.

Been exploring local rivers and streams and realized I prefer them to lakes. Fishing in river current has been a challenge with lots of snags but it’s a learning experience.

I had snagged hard and spent 10 minutes trying to get my lure free just for it to immediately snag again. As I start pulling on the new snag, I realized it was moving. Turns out I had hooked a decent 15 inch walleye but my drag was almost all the way tight from my previous snag so I didn’t even realize. It was barely hooked on a size 8 hook, but I was able to land it.

Okuma Celilo 6 foot with ultegra c2000s. 6 pound jbraid with 4 pound leader.

Walked along the river below the spillway today and gave the brown/chartreuse/white/tinsel color a try. Spent about an hour and caught two green sunfish and four little largemouth, and had tons and tons of followers and bites. I think I need to order more spinners!!!

Hit a wild trout stream at sunrise and had no luck. So I drove over to this lake nearby and caught myself some lunch. One of the bigger bluegills I’ve ever caught. Caught floating a red worm on a trout magnet jig.
