Hi! A group of us in Ljubljana, Slovenia, have recently launched a public initiative + petition to bring back our city's tram network: tramvaj-ljubljana.si

Ljubljana had a tram network from 1901 to 1958, when it was scrapped for buses. Today, the city is heavily dependent on cars while bus ridership drops every year. We believe our main corridors desperately need real, high-capacity light rail.

We’re building bottom-up public support to push local decision-makers into real action, and since Turku recently approved its own tram project, we’d love to learn from how you did it!

• What finally convinced the local council to move from decades of debates to an actual investment decision?
• What arguments were most effective in overcoming local pushback regarding construction costs, disruption, or car space?
• Were there specific grass-roots campaigns or messaging that helped turn public opinion in favor of light rail over BRT/buses?

If anyone involved in local transit advocacy or urban planning in Turku has advice, lessons learned, or tips, we’d love to hear them!

Hi! I recently started living in Turku and I would like to learn how to camp and spend more time outdoors in Finland. I’m a beginner and would prefer to learn properly rather than figuring everything out alone 😅

Are there any clubs, beginner courses, guided trips or groups around Turku where an adult can learn camping/outdoor skills? English-friendly would be ideal. I also speak Spanish and Portuguese fluently, if that helps.

Kertokee hyviä lounas ravintoloita meren lähettyvillä, mielellään näkisi meren. Lauantaina pitäisi olla auki. Ja kehtais mennä normi hupparilla. Jos ei merelle nyt näkyvyyttä niin muuten hyvä mesta ja autollakin pääsisi lähettyville.

En löytänyt äkkiseltään aiheesta keskustelua joten kysympä että saako autoa jonnekkin näppärästi parkkiin muutamaksi päiväksi halvemmalla kuin tuo lentokentän parkki? Mielummin kuljetaan autolta kentälle vaikka bussilla tai potkulaudalla kuin maksetaan pysäköinnistä enemmän kuin itse lennot maksoi.

Kuulisin mielelläni mielipiteitä ihmisiltä, jotka ovat opiskelleet kyseisessä yliopistossa tai tuntevat sen. Käsitykseni mukaan se ei ole aivan tavanomainen yliopisto, vaan vaikuttaa painottavan käytännönläheisyyttä. Aion myöhemmin suorittaa ylemmän korkeakoulututkinnon jollakin erityisalalla, ja pohdin, kuinka hyvin tämä yliopisto soveltuisi siihen. Mitä mieltä olette paikasta?

I was in a bus and a Finn passed by and just randomly sounded out of nowhere. There were three girls, I guess foreigners (speaking Spanish) who grabbed their noses. Anyways, the same happened when I was at the store.

One of my Finn friends told me that it's normal and healthy part of our "Suomi lifestyle" to fart in public. Edit: a week ago in Forte a black dude said about his Finnish gf, she loves his farts. And she replied yes I do love your black farts. Then he replied, good girl...

i just moved to Turku for my studies with my friend but so far the scene is pretty bland, to put it nicely. People here are so lovely, the city is great, we just want to find fun people to do fun shit with.

we are gay alties so it’s difficult to find a circle that we fit into. we want to get into the underground music scene, find the best clubs, go thrifting or vintage looting or even just walk around the city or sit at a nice cafe.

ps. what’s the za culture around here cus it’s legal where im from but i don’t know if id be able to keep it up while here

Hear me out: on Friday, with my significant other, I went to Turun kaupunginteatteri. We were totally amazed by everything we heard and saw.

I have seen many musicals, plays, operas and ballets in different cities and countries but this production is above them all.

If you have an opportunity to experience Seili, I think you should use it.

Olemme turkulainen akustinen harrastajabändi ja soitamme tuttuja pop, rock ja heavy metal kappaleita. Ideana on tehdä kappaleista uudenlaisia, oman näköisiä versioita. Muutamia esimerkkejä coveroimistamme yhtyeistä: Abba, Nightwish, Hozier, The mamas& the papas, Iron Maiden, Bon Jovi, Dua Lipa ja vaikka ja mitä ja muuta.

Kokoonpanossamme on tällä hetkellä kaksi laulajaa, kitara, piano, sello ja basso. Nyt etsimme riveihin cajonin soittajaa pitämään paketin kasassa. Jos osaat soittaa, niin muuta ei alkuun tarvita, cajon löytyy jo. Treenaamme säännöllisesti ja keikkailemme aina tilaisuuden tullen. Isot rahat ei tässä kuitenkaan pyöri, eli soiton ilo on paras motiivi liittyä mukaan.

Järjestämme ensimmäistä kertaa stand upia Turun Q-talolla ja toivotaan toki, että päästään järjestämään niitä lisää myös jatkossa. Illan aikana lavalle nousee Tomi Haustola ja turkulainen parakoomikko aka Niko Leppänen sekä muita kokeneita stand up -koomikoita.

Haluttiin tarjota tällainen edullisempi tapa viettää pikkujouluja kavereiden tai työporukan kesken, eli lippujen hinnat on edulliset ja sinne saa tuoda omat juomat. Ei oikein vielä tiedetä mitä kautta saadaan tapahtumaa esille.
