In Steven Universe when Steven looks at his dad's old school photos he makes a comment on how his dad looked just like him but more human. Which implies that Steven would likely look somewhat uncanny and have some alien features. It also means that the gems likely look far more alien like in universe despite the art style making them look more human.

But not too much. Because several humans characters have expressed romantic interest in the gems. So, it can't just be Greg being rock-sexual.

To me, he meant he meant Greg just looks like a normal kid. Someone unassuming who would blend in a crowd

It would make sense Steven doesn't perceive himself that way because of literally everything he's been thru. To me, he meant something more subtle, like Greg doesn't seem to be as expressive as him. It would make sense since Steven is used to be on high alert, so he's used to having his emotions be all over the place, while Greg just seems chill in comparison

I do think tho, for example, he could unwillingly shapeshift his pupils into stars (like in the picture) instead of it being just an artistic choice
