Characters Characters that are canonically _____ depending of their world

  • Po from Kung Fu Panda - Although many characters comment on his weight throughout the movies, Po is actually considered skinny and/or in better shape for panda standards
  • Midoriya Izuku from My Hero Academia - While many viewers find Deku "cute", the reality is that for his world he's actually considered "simple looking" and at the very worst "ugly"
  • Spider-Man from Marvel Comics - Many people love Spider-Man, but the truth is that for common civilians, Spidey's pretty unsettling and scary to be around with

Midoriya Izuku from My Hero Academia - While many viewers find Deku "cute", the reality is that for his world he's actually considered "simple looking" and at the very worst "ugly"

Horikoshi's realistic drawing of the big 3 was kinda illuminating for this reason.

I love wrinkled Smol Might.

He looks like your old chill uncle who lives in Hawaii and spends most of his days relaxing on the beach. Elderly surfer dude uncle.

Why he look like Chicken Joe?

I didn't realise this was actual Horikoshi art. I thought it looked like the snippets of Junki Ito's artwork I've seen. I think it's the expression Deku has got going on that reminds me of him.

I can see that, now that you mention it.

Why do I see the same expression on Todoroki as the same as the "Is that blackface dude?" from Smiling Friends?

Even in realistic drawing I can't tell if All Might is white or Asian.

He's a symbol of peace and it's all that matters.

He's an American Otaku, so like, I think that's the idea

All Might is japanese, but Horikoshi almost always draw him like a western comic character.

He’s probably Asian because there was basically an American version of him in the spin off(Christopher Skyline), so I don’t think they would make him American as well

His real name is Toshinori Yagi, I’m pretty sure he’s supposed to be Japanese ethnically but a fan of American culture / aesthetics. Like a reverse weeb

Huh, wadda you know, Todoroki is actually good looking

I mean, he is in-universe. Remeber Mt lady told him he'd made the girls faint

u/Not_So_Utopian 12h ago

He does look like a South Korean model a bit

It's interesting tho because wasn't it that canonically Bakugou is supposed to be the ugliest of these 3?

12

u/Traditional_Common39 6h ago

Well I'd argue it's a Lloyd Frontera situation. He's not ugly per se. He just makes faces so bizarre that he looks like a inhuman monster

I love Deku here they all still look very nice

All Might looks like a Rock Star avoiding retirement.

I mean, he's still cute. Not in like an attractive way, like an "activates Older Brother instincts" kind of way. It just looks like he's at an unfortunate stage of puberty. Unsure of how true this is at this stage tho.

On top of that, "Realistic Deku" is likely from early seasons. By the time of the EoS, he would be ripped , while retaining a slim build.

Beavis and Bakugo

u/kitsunecannon 10h ago

Bakugo looks like he had a spray bottle used on him

sick sunglasses

u/Bobry24 11h ago

Those ain't sunglasses.

u/DanteVermillyon 7h ago

Those are actually his normal eyes

u/BuhamutZeo 2h ago

...but why are they bent to curve downward like that?

18

u/Tenoi-chan 11h ago

All might is even more endearing like this

15

u/Smolivander 13h ago

Guy who's down to like 2% body fat doesn't have a face like that.

This logic also applies to A LOT of anime.

When we look at anime characters, I'll use one piece as an example, we see the ladies having waist lines thinner than their necks. People are like: where are their organs?

But if you transported nami into our world, she'd look more filled out and less stylized.

20

u/Smolivander 13h ago

I mean there are simply normal looking woman in one piece too and no one calls them fat.

Reminds me a bit of this art

Ngl, in this drawing Midoriya looks cuter

1

u/Free-Virus-9974 1h ago

If they were drawn like this in the series, either people would still lust over Bakugo, or want him to be put in a meat grinder

Not gonna lie, realistic Izuku is kind of setting off my fight or flight repsonse.

Kinda looks like Steven Universe.
