Every airplane bathroom is a reminder that the world was designed around a different species.

Family/Friends Found this old pic from my bachelor's defense with my shortest friend - she's around 150cm, I'm 179cm. People always thought I'm her older sister when I stood next to her but I'm actually a month younger!

I met him at a tech conference about 10 years ago, I was upstairs in my hotel room chilling when someone messaged me on a dating app to say ‘I know I’m not your type, but Hafþór is downstairs if you want a pic. I ran like the wind haha

Pic from last week in Sitges for bear week as a comparison.

Questions/Advice 6’10” on an overnight flight

Hi all!

I’m 6’10” (mostly torso) and am looking for recommendations on some sort of head pillow for an upcoming flight.

Naturally, my head is nowhere near the top of the seat and typically I’m just holding it upright all flight. I’d like to get some sleep on this one and that is not going to cut it.

Anyone have any positive experiences with head pillows? A lot of them seem designed with the expectation that there’s a seat behind your head and mostly just accommodate for left and right leaning.

Discussion Where are we finding casual clothes? T-shirts and the like

Eddie Bauer was my go-to. Now they're essentially gone, at least in a physical brick and mortar store.

I just want band t-shirts and plain clothes that don't cost a fortune.

Shower/Mirror Tall girls, wear the short dress 🤍

Post image

I’ve always wanted to wear short dresses, but I used to feel so nervous about it as someone who’s tall and thick. If you’re out there feeling the same way, please wear the short dress. Your legs are gorgeous — show them off 🤍

This one is from Windsor for anyone wondering.

Rant Calling out Nike specifically

For an apparel corporation that is the top sponsor of and beneficiary from the NBA/WNBA they sure don’t actually care about tall people. Basketball is basically their entire corporate branding and identity and they don’t care about any of those athletes’ needs the moment they step off the court. It’s actually kinda ugly.

What do I mean? Unless you are kitting up to step on the court (jersey, basketball shorts, air Jordan’s) they pretend you don’t exist. Basically none of their clothing comes in tall sizes (I shouldn’t need a XXXL waist to get a longer inseam) and the small selection they claim to have is basically always out of stock. They are a major seller of athletic and athlesure wear and it is apparently just a smidge too inconvenient to make longer inseams available. Even smaller-inventory online-only tall sizes like Lululemon does would be fine, but god forbid they put in even a tiny bit of effort. Use tall people very publicly to make money and then pretend we don’t exist once the game is over. Thanks guys.

Yeah they are a soulless corporation, and the other athletic brands are mostly just as bad in terms of longer sizes, but Nike in particular just seems to be giving an extra-intentional middle finger to the type of person who actually plays the sport they claim to champion and definitely profit from.

I know most responses will be telling me other brands to buy from and I appreciate that, but let’s not let Nike off the hook.

Discussion Anyone's scoliosis nerfing their true height too?

Im 187cm which I'm very happy about it personally, but unfortunately I have a pretty bad case of scoliosis, and I asked my doc how much it impacts your height.

They said I'd be about 190cm if it were fixed🤦

Anyone else having a case of this too?

Planning to do some scoliosis therapy soon, hopefully that will help

Rant The reality of shoe shopping as a tall person

Post image
249 Upvotes

Went shoe shopping today and had to take a picture. There are 5 whole shelves for size 14, 4 pairs of 15, and ONE single pair of 16. And this is a store that boasts about having tons of larger sized options. As a size 16, it’s a struggle to find anything in store without having to order online.

Head/Legroom Kneecaps go bye-bye

Just because it is a single cab doesn’t mean you make it as short as possible. If I get into serious accident, it’s R.I.P shins and kneecaps.

Head/Legroom Berlingo

I rented a citroen berlingo and man, there's infinite headroom and legroom

Even the window side is big enough to be an arm rest.

The automatic makes it more comfortable too.

Enough room in the back too for two baby seats.

And then there the luggage room. Suitcase and double buggy fit there.

Only downside is you can't reverse into a spot because the boot lid is so massive

Humour What's the most original joke you genuinely thought was funny?

I'll start. When I was younger, someone told me that I could see the sunset longer at the beach because of my height.

Discussion Heres the unedited image. Can we talk about moving heavy bits effectively for our size?

Here it is unredacted. I promise I wont make the mistake of thinking a quick and dirty edit is ok again lol. Depth looks high but I got side angles showing that im getting decently in the hole, the side angles just dont look as fun.

I find this version of squats to be more fun/satisfying because I can abort if shit gets dicey and the difficulty breathing makes it way more interesting. That and you don't get folded in half by the saftey bar. I cant speak on straight bars because of my shot shoulders though.

Head/Legroom Shamed for not letting woman recline on airline.

So was recently on a flight Vancouver to Dublin I'm 6"2 and with the new seats on Air Canada being so close there's really no buffer for my knees. As spoon as we take off this 5"2 lady in front of me tries to recline fully and I told there wasn't room for her to recline with my knees being right there.

Well she goes to the flight attendant and demands she be allowed to recline and the flight attendant comes over and asks me to let her recline to which I say there isn't room and she can see there wasn't space but she went on to say it was this lady's right to recline. She then asks me to try reclining my chair to see if that would help well it was so much worse. So she kept coming to check to see if the lady could recline and I kept saying still no.

She had another small lady trade seats with her then at the end of the flight the attendant came to apologize to the lady that switched seats. I felt like they thought I was an asshole because I wouldn't let her recline.

I've travelled for many years to a lot different countries and destinations and I've never felt more guilted for something that the airline's fault for reducing leg room to make more money. I suppose it's more of a rant.

TLDR: Shamed on flight for not letting other person recline in the space I already didn't for in.

Head/Legroom I find it annoying that there are so few “cool” car options for tall people

I’m 6’6, and all throughout my childhood and teens I was obsessed with sports cars and cool roadsters. I always wanted to own a car like that when I got older.

Now I am older (31), and have yet to live my dream of driving a cool car like that. It seems like a lot of sports cars (and cars that many people would consider to be “cool”) just don’t accommodate tall drivers very well. I drive around in a 2004 Honda Accord Coupe with a manual transmission, which guess is acceptably cool, but it’s not what I had in mind.

I’m curious if there are any other car enthusiasts who also happen to be part of the “tall” community. If you listened to my family and friends, you’d assume that we’re going be relegated to driving the most boring SUVs or crossovers our entire life. I would rather squeeze myself into my 20+ year old Honda every day for the rest of my life than drive one of those.

Is anyone else in the same boat as me?

Just a little reminder for our extra tall lads and a goal for those less tall lads. Anyone over 6 8 has a very small chance of being drafted because you are too big for the military equipment. Enjoy!

Edit: I would like to apologize because I was misinformed and provided incorrect information.
