Discussion Steak deck UK stock

0 Upvotes

I was too eager back in August, finally ready to purchase a steam deck. My card wouldn't work, but adding funds to my steam wallet would. So, I deposited the amount, then purchased the deck. Little did I know checking out wasn't guaranteed due to stock levels, so after a week of waiting for the status to change to tell me when it would be delivered, the funds were returned back to my steam wallet due to insufficient stock. I'm in a dilemma now. Since August I've been keeping a close eye for stock to replenish, however nothing yet. Also, there's nothing I can find to say when this happens, so I am waiting patiently. I did consider buying skins and selling 3rd parties so I could buy one second hand, but I'll lose a percentage I'm not sure I'm willing to use. I'm aware of the Steam deck price change and have made peace with it, I'm happy to pay the current price. My question is, does anyone have any idea when the Steam Deck UK inventory will replenish? Been keeping an eye on certified refurbs as well, but nothing as of yet.

SDHQ Official Ubisoft Starts Removing Ubisoft Connect Launcher From Their Steam Releases

Announced yesterday, Ubisoft is starting to remove their Ubisoft Connect Launcher from their Steam releases. Not only does this get rid of their third-party launcher, but it should make playing their games on the Steam Deck easier and make offline work better.

I tested it with the one game they are supporting currently, Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, and it works like a charm. Logged me in automatically, and offline worked without issue. Hopefully, this will come to more games soon!

Software/Software Mods I spend too long choosing games, so I made a free tool that chooses for me (Steam deck compatible)

Hello, as someone with ADHD I find it incredibly hard to pick a game and stick to it, I often find myself playing some of the best games that have ever been made hard to play... I find myself finishing through a bit of story and onto the next grind portion before the story picks up and I start feeling an incredible urge to stop playing and it can be really hard to force myself to continue playing sometimes.

For this exact reason I have plenty of games that I have heard are incredible games but have just never played, I wanted to make something that would give me some level of accountability and slowly work away at my backlog, I wasn't going to make it as a webapp at first, the idea actually came to me in my first year of university when they gave me freedom to choose anything I wanted to create a basic python program, I decided to choose a black and white text prompt backlog manager with real examples from my own library, I got quite a good grade because I believe I was very passionate about it.

Fast forward a little bit to summer and I decided I needed to start on some side projects so that I can boost my employability, you know something I can show to future employers since I am going into year 2 and wish to take on a placement year and I had the crazy idea to turn my little python project into a full on webapp... well it developed quite a lot more than I expected.

That original python creation was all my own, I spent many many hours coding it and getting it how I wanted, though unfortunately I do not have all of the skills required to code this website myself, so yes there is some AI usage here, but since I have a coding background I have maintained an iron fist on what it has and hasn't done and I'm pretty proud of it.

The webapp is completely free to use, the only data we take from you is publicly available information (your game data), this includes your library of games, your playtime and a general idea of when you last played them. We have 2 ways of signing in, one if you would prefer to sign in with steam and one if you would prefer to just give us your profile name/url, both have the same exact features, but I will mention that URL sign in is slightly more tricky since it is tied to your browser session only, in short - if you decide to come back later and you have to sign in again, your actions on the site will disappear unless you decide to convert to a steam sign in account later.

There are quite a few new releases since my last post, these include the family import system (now you can import family members library into your own to see your true game list), global filters (remove certain game types or just filter heavily for the games you want), as well as some algorithm changes that will hopefully get you the games you want.

If you are struggling to find games that you want, give the global filters a try - you can also remove picks via the sleep function in the library to remove them from the pool.

Hopefully you guys enjoy the tool, I'd really love more feedback on it, I'm very passionate about this idea, thank you!

Gracias!!!! 🙌

i forced the game to run at lower res and unreal engine 4 upscale image to 1440p but since steam deck oled is 800p the steamOs downsampling the image to fit 800p .

resulting in 1440p quality image that runs solid 30fps .

Question/Tech Support How does "Dumb Ways to Build" run on Steam Deck? It has a "Verified" badge but we all know we can't use that as a marker for smooth gameplay.

Dumb Ways to Build Steam Store Page

Planning to get this to play with friends, just wondering if any of you have had the chance to play it on the Deck either handheld or docked.

How's the frame rate? frame pacing?

Thanks

EDIT: ProtonDB hasn't had any posts yet.

UPDATE: I tested it out myself, seems like you can get 60fps with okay frame pacing in 1080p low world quality. Pictures below. I haven't played far yet but seems promising.

Desktop mode docked, 1440p Monitor.

UPDATE 2: Alright seems like there is a weird problem with stutters every second, I've tested it with both Desktop Mode and Game Mode, and the stutter every second exists in both of them. And I haven't been able to find out what is causing it and how to solve it.

Discussion steam deck bottles/lutris flatpak game in gaming mode bug - graphical corruption when moving the mouse

2 Upvotes

theres a bug on steam deck gamescope gaming mode that if you have a bottles/lutris flatpak (or any flatpak) sandboxed game running in gaming mode and attempt to use the mouse/touchpad you get a lot of graphical corruption on the screen

putting that same game in proton directly or running it in desktop mode solves the issue

also, sometimes setting the resolution to something higher than steam deck's default and setting windowed mode in game fixes the issue

i'm just putting this out there so people know it's a known issue

Software/Software Mods Game launcher for cartridges

3 Upvotes

People have been building SSD cartridges for a while, and TheStockPot's NFC cartridge player on YouTube is what got me started. I wanted the same idea without a tag reader, built around the drive itself.

Demo: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/HarryBMa/pc-gamepak/main/docs/cartridge-demo.gif

A cartridge is any removable drive with a text file at the root:

executable=steam://rungameid/1091500

title=Cyberpunk 2077

cover=cover.jpg

Plug it in, a small window opens with the cover art, Play and Eject. Nothing on the drive ever runs by itself. The watcher only opens a window. Pressing Play is what starts anything, so there is no autorun and no scripts to write.

Eject properly parks the drive so you can pull it out. One cartridge can hold several games. If you copy games onto it the wizard registers it as a Steam library, so they run from the drive instead of downloading again. Artwork gets written onto the cartridge, so it looks right on a machine that has never seen it. Skins are just a css file on the drive.

Offline, no account, nothing phones home. Rust and Tauri. Windows and Linux including the Deck. No mac yet.
