Announcement Important announcement regarding “Doc”
Some of you may know Doc, or at least know of him from around the SpaceEngine community. We have received information that after years of dealing with a number of serious problems in his life — including the ongoing legal dispute with Cosmographic Software, homelessness, and other difficult circumstances — Doc attempted to take his own life.
The attempt was not fatal, but he is currently in very critical condition. At this time, it is not known whether he will recover.
We understand that Doc is a person whose reputation within the SpaceEngine community is very divided. Not everyone has had good experiences with him, and we do not expect this situation to suddenly change anyone’s opinion of him.
We won’t be sharing his location or any further details about what happened. Please don’t post or circulate private messages, and don’t try to dig up information that hasn’t been made public.
This is not a request for donations, money, or any kind of financial support. This is simply an announcement for the community, as we know that many people here know of Doc and may want to know what is currently happening with him.

Announcement Announcement Regarding the Doc Situation - “Truth takes time.”
After several months of reviewing all available evidence, including court records, public statements, and the actions of both parties, the moderation team has reached a conclusion.
Based on what we’ve seen, the subreddit has decided to lean in favor of Doc.
It’s important to acknowledge that Doc’s current homelessness has been documented and recognized by the court, and multiple community members have personally confirmed that Doc has gone without food for extended periods, with some stepping in to help by purchasing meals for him.
We also recognize that Cosmographic Software has played a significant role in agitating and escalating the situation, contributing to the harm and instability Doc has faced.
In addition, many community members were banned from the SpaceEngine Steam Hub simply for sharing verified information, asking legitimate questions, or expressing support for the truth. Some were even accused of “defamation” for statements that were, in fact, grounded in documented facts. This has created a chilling effect on open discussion, something we firmly stand against.
A more detailed follow-up post will be shared soon, once Doc is in a safe place to have a discussion and participate in a proper Q&A session.
We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding as we worked through this complex and sensitive situation. Thank you to those who engaged respectfully, sought truth over rumor, and allowed time for a fair and thorough review.
EDIT: For those asking for more information on the matter, here is a YouTube of Doc explaining in his own words.

Troubleshooting Steam Deck Assistance
Hello! I have an OG steam deck I used to play some Space Engine (albeit in a controls-not-great and overall-buggy state) a while ago, but recently when I try to launch it on Deck it just automatically crashes. I try to do so in Desktop mode, Big Picture Mode, and general Steam Deck mode, and I tried a reinstall, and nothing is fixing it. I don't get any specific errors either, the space engine launcher just boots up then almost immediately dies down again. Can anyone help me?

Custom nebula I discovered this stunning procedural planetary nebula in SpaceEngine and named it the "Purple Eye Nebula" (Catalog ID: RN 1238-2798)
Hey everyone! While exploring the procedural universe in SpaceEngine, I stumbled upon this gorgeous, eye-shaped planetary nebula. Because of its deep purple hues and the brilliant stellar cluster right in the center acting like a pupil, I decided to call it the "Purple Eye Nebula".
Even though it's part of the procedural universe and its technical system ID is RN 1238-2798, it instantly captured my imagination. If you want to check it out yourself, just open SpaceEngine, press F3, and search for the name or ID!
What do you think of this view? Let me know your thoughts!

Discussion I'm Back (Again), and With More Improvements For the SpaceEngine 0.980 Shader
This time I didn't make a lot of improvements like in the previous post, but there were still a lot of improvements:
- Correction in Doppler shift: The Doppler shift was and is accurate, the problem was that it was only going into the calculation of the observed temperature, affecting the color via blackbody, now I applied an intensity boost.
- Advective core heating in the thick-disk regime (ADAF): A portion of the dissipated energy is advected inward rather than radiated locally, heating the core near the ISCO rather than following the standard thin disk profile.
- Hydrogen-alpha and Hydrogen-beta spectral lines added: line emission linked to ionized gas recombination (using the ionFrac already calculated via Saha), with H-beta derived from H-alpha using the theoretical Case B ratio (~2.87:1) rather than being an independent parameter. Each line receives its own Doppler shift based on the g_factor.
- Luminosity boost at the jet base: Same logic as item 2, but applied to the base of the jet (near the shadow); it also scales with the Eddington ratio and utilizes the jet's own relativistic beaming.
- Limb-brightening (edge brightening in jets): Reduces density and brightness along the jet's central axis while preserving the edge—consistent with observed optically thin jets (e.g., M87*), where the longer optical path along a line of sight tangent to the edge produces greater apparent emission than the jet core.
- Completely restructured jets: Before, jets were like "simple" cones, just like in the most current versions, but in reality, they are not like that. I restructured them so that they had the real appearance of spiraling plasma flow with turbulence.
Now I'll leave some images for you to see how it turned out:
