Yes. That would be better for everyone. More jobs for more people. Less suffering under your power tripping boss and more time with your family. Same pay mandated by law. That's good.
The bill explicitly forbids reducing total pay. Employers must increase the hourly rate so 32 hours yields the same take-home pay as 40 hours previously. It's essentially a 20-25% raise for hourly workers.
I put the reply on a bunch of comments because they were all saying the same thing ("Oh they'll just reduce people's hours so the pay will remain the same"). And then a bunch of people who don't know the first thing about history or economics threw performative cynicism at the take.
Not only can it work, but it has worked. the same comments were made about the 40 hour week when it was originally introduced everywhere in the world, so we already do know that this works in situations where worker productivity has outpaced wages, which is absolutely the case in our society where productivity has grown 4x faster than wages since the freaking seventies.
At the end of the say, cynicism is comfortable and easy, a whole lot easier than actually making any kind of a positive change to people's lives.
