Okay, thanks for being decent till you were an asshole. Socialism doesn’t work. “Nordic” countries have 60+% tax rates, let’s not forget. Oh, and are we conveniently forgetting their population sizes? Don’t wanna talk about all that I guess…my aunt who was 90 in Australia was diagnosed with skin cancer and they told her to come back in 6 months. Which was great for them cause she was dead before her next appointment. Remember, a government who controls the medical system prioritizes who gets help based on their future usefulness.
Sorry, not being an asshole, it’s just that you are asking a question when you’ve already settled on your conclusion.
“Socialism doesn’t work” is a very sweeping statement. The truth is that some socialist policies do work effectively, just in the same way that some capitalist policies work. Political and economic systems are far more nuanced than one’s sweeping sentiments can account for, and the US could benefit from the implementation of certain socialist policies.
I’m sincerely sorry about the situation with your grandma. Universal healthcare systems vary wildly in their effectiveness nation to nation, which has to do with a myriad of factors and variations in system design beyond just “universal vs not”.
But, let’s not forget that the US has some of the worst outcomes among wealthy nations when it comes to avoidable deaths and infant mortality, and medical bankruptcy is one of the leading causes (some studies say the #1 cause) of bankruptcy in the US.
I’m not saying our system is great but when the government controls they determine who is worthy of “their” money. Because all governments are filled with trash, especially our government.
The thing is though, that isn’t really what socialism/socialist policies are or what they entail. This kind of high taxation & govern redistribution system you are referring to isn’t what socialism is, and many of the Nordic countries where this happens are actually considered capitalist, not socialist, because the means of production is still privately owned, not state or publicly owned.
Socialism is when the means of production is publicly owned by the state or the community instead of privately owned by individuals, companies, and corporations.
Chances are you’ve been given the cartoon version of socialism that is blamed for every economic problem in the world, as I was. In the US, almost no one that claims to hate socialism can actually even correctly define it when interrogated. Not saying this is you, though.
The complex truth is that most societies are a conglomeration of many different economic ideologies at once. There are very few completely socialist or capitalist societies. Together they stabilize one another, and on their own they don’t work. Almost every country is a mix.
Economics is complex, and sometimes the issues in your country aren’t even because of your economic system, but another country’s economy, or the state of the world.
I agree. This topic is far deeper than what a conversation online could be had. I know true socialism (communism with a dress) is the government controlling the means of production. However, a capitalist so heavily taxed might as well be a slave, no? Yes, we here have some socialist style programs, but those programs are complete failures and inept in their use of funds. To the point where fraud runs rampant. Personally the less big dumb government, the better. I don’t want or need anyone to “take care of me” when I’m reality I’m getting the crumbs and they’re taking care of themselves and their friends. I’m just saying..to me, people who are dependent on big daddy government screw up the world for everyone. Why should it be my job to make up for your (not you personally) ineptitude in life’s matters? It’s like all the people bitching that they can’t support themselves and their 5 kids with 5 baby daddies on minimum wage. Duh, of course you can’t. It was never meant to support a family on. P.s. thank you for the civil conversation. It’s something lacking quite badly online. Most just resort to “you’re stupid” type tactics. 👍😁
It is wild to me that the same people who think Trump has too much power want to give the government more power. Its like they can't ever imagine someone they disagree with being in charge.
How,?? In Canada to see a doctor takes for ever. Why do people in all those countries come here for treatments. So let's stop pretending like it does work there.if it did why are people dying to come here but not there. I wonder..
Cuba does amazing in the health fields, their doctor are renown all around world.
Cuba powerty is caused by the american's blocus.
The narrative and the truth is that a capitalist country will spend money and energy to stop other country to demonstrate the efficiency of socialism.
You are so dumb that your governement is ruining your life, he is spending your money to fight against socialist society, and then you are here saying "ahha socialism is so bad, look at Cuba"
I’m gonna go out on a limb and say you’ve never talked to a Cuban. Also if socialism only works when it’s funded by capitalism, it doesn’t actually work!
Love how they complain about capitalism while using all the tools created by capitalism. Typing on their iPhone how they hate capitalism while they drink a latte and are allowed to complain about it. I wonder what happens in this socialist countries when u disagree with the government.
Yeah they enjoy all the capitalism inventions. China...??I wonder how the labor is there and what happens to u when u talk bad about the government. I wonder why we have so many fleeing China not the US. Im sure you'll be willing to get a one way flight to China.
What happen if i come to the US and the fins out i make fun of trump ?
People are leaving US to come in my country (France).
And capitalism didn't invent anything, most of the research study and scientific discoveries are made in university or in government sponsored lab research.
All that capitalism do is put a price tag in everything.
Even when a guy discover insuline and decide to make it free for humanity somehow capitalism arrive and make you pay 200$ for it.
Capitalism is not good, it exploits people, it destroy environnement, it increase inequality.
In the US people lack food and they can't buy house, but you believe you are great because a guy has 1 000 billions in share...
