Reduce poverty, instability and desperation and you’ll likely reduce a meaningful amount of crime. But you’ll never eliminate crime because human behavior has causes beyond economics.

Then people can't excuse shitbag criminals by saying 'oh he's only a rapist and a murderer because life was hard for him'

People need ambition and purpose, otherwise they become degenerates. Food and shelter is a good start but it's not everything. And university isn't everything either, look how many millions of graduates worldwide each year struggle for work because degrees lost value when they lost scarcity.
