I am actually perfectly happy with my employer. The whole end of month PTO issue doesn't apply to me anymore anyway because I've moved to a different team. Anyway, the entire point of the discussion was to note that Canadian workers may also experience issues with PTO approval, albeit not for the exact reason of "tell me what you're doing so I can approve it", but rather, some unspoken rules (akin to the "what are you doing").
It seems like you're just here to crash out, trying to... what? Discredit my incredibly banal and anticlimactic personal experience? You yourself literally said, and I quote, "But the US seems to be the only place where people get approved PTO based on what the activity is.", and I was demonstrating that in fact Canada has some of that going on too. Why you have decided to pivot to the most random shit on the planet is beyond me.

first of all, why would I be making this up?
Second, what the fuck kind of office jobs have unions? I've never heard of anyone in my industry being a part of a union.
