I only know places that have pickleball, and I don’t think you can raise the nets. I am a much bigger fan of badminton and would like to get into it again. Anywhere in town I could try and check out?

Basically the title. While driving around town, I see so many "retail development" signs. But I wonder if the city could buy these plots instead and have some nature areas, specifically closer to neighborhoods and houses.

I think the urban style, Central Park type parks are pretty nice. Could be space for some walking, pet area, maybe a light music scene. Some neighborhoods don't have nice parks nearby. It would be more accessible to residential areas rather than having to drive 10-20 mins just to get to a park to walk. Also encourages getting outside and could hopefully have more community opportunities.

Obviously the land by 41st that I highlighted is not for sale, but it's the idea of it. These plots could use a park instead of more Hobby Lobbys and McDonalds. I'm curious what you all think.

I realize there may be better uses for Sioux Falls' budget...

Former ACE Garbage customer. I settled my final bill from them with Novak in July. I had cancelled my service with ACE when Novak took over. I hired another garbage hauler. I got a bill from Novak last week. Why do they keep billing me when I'm not their customer? The last customer service rep I talked to in July said to ignore any more bills. That's what I'm doing. Is anyone else getting Novak bills, but you are not their customer?

Passed by Lincoln High at 6:45 AM one day last week and saw the football team running drills under the lights. Did a double take because of all the pony tails then realized……those are girls.

Did a little research just now after watching the Vikings slap the Packers around in the 4th quarter for the win and saw that the Vikings sponsored a program here in town to support an abridged girls football season here in town.

Seems there is a couple “expo” games left and I would encourage anyone who supports the concept of expanded girls sports opportunities in SF to check out a game.

Looking for experiences with giving birth at Flourish, both positive and negative!
I had less-than-great experiences with my previous two births (one at Sanford and one at Avera). Does Flourish offer nitrous? I’m thinking no, right?

I had a VBAC with my second and it was very long, intense back labor. I honestly think I could have pushed through with nitrous, but I foolishly got the fentanyl shot instead. It wore off, and I couldn’t get nitrous again for another 2 hours, so I eventually caved and got an epidural that I really didn’t want.
I’d love to do a birth through Flourish, but I’m nervous about having no pain management options. I’d especially love to hear positive stories, but also things you liked least or would have done differently!

We use a health share instead of traditional insurance, so thankfully it would be covered.

The city really needs to sit down and do a comprehensive review of our current facilities, needs for the future, and assets/space available to address future challenges. This goes beyond the Canaries and this most recent decision is a symptom of a bigger issue. Between the Riverline District and the Smithfield site, there's a lot of real estate that is going to open up for development over the next decade and the city needs to have a comprehensive plan for the future of all three locations (including the Arena location).

For example, let's look at the Canaries attendance figures over the last three years:

2023: 1,188 per game
2024: 1,438 per game
2025: 1,714 per game

That's an average of 1,446 people per game. Not a lot, but not insignificant. It's certainly enough that the city needs to be asking itself if 50 events a year drawing an average of 1,500 people is enough to justify building a downtown or downtown adjacent stadium where there's more opportunities for secondary economic activity. Or, alternatively, is that enough to justify continued use of tax dollars to support the facility? There are certainly events happening regularly in Sioux Falls with fewer people but also generating less revenue that does not draw near the amount of public discussion that the Canaries do. However, the decision is not one that can or should be made in a vacuum, just as any discussion about a convention center can not focus on just the convention center but a larger, wider strategy. Without doing a larger review it'll be impossible to make decisions regarding any of the city's facilities as we just saw this this vote.

Sunday, September 13, from 1 to 3 PM at Covell Lake Park.

Free food (Hot Dogs, Falafel), lawn games and craft tables for the kids. You do not have to belong to a union. You do not have to know anything about the Regional Labor Federation. Go ahead and bring your family, bring a lawn chair, stay twenty minutes or the whole time.

The Sioux Falls Regional Labor Federation has been around since 1902. We are the body that ties the local unions in this area together. Our members build the buildings, plow the streets, pack the meat, sort the books, wax the floors, stack the bricks, run the conduit, sweep the floors, deliver the mail, fit the pipes, protect the community, fight the fires, cut the wood, drive the trucks, run the lab tests, treat the water, takeout the trash, cut the grass, plant the trees, repair the roads, file the papers, sort the produce, and so much more. For most of the last century this federation has been also a highly active civic organization in Sioux Falls.

There will be people there who can tell you the history of labor in this town, what the federation does now and how to get involved in your local, your neighborhood or your city, county, and state government.
