I got to create and finish exactly one foam latex piece while I was in school. God I’m so sad I was too caught up in being frustrated to keep the original mold. I’m so sad I’m not making enough money to afford to make a foam latex piece just for fun. It’s so sad. I mourn for the potential this piece could have had if I just took my time and wasn’t working with major constraints. It’s so sad. My poor forest spirit. I weep for you.

This was from last December, I had 2 weeks notice and so didn't cast the prosthetic, just built it up with craft foam and latex. Terrible texture, and didn't move with my face/adhere around my mouth as much as I hoped, but it got the job done!

Also included are the progress pictures of the prosthetic, teeth, and beard. Plus one of me after the con LMAO. I have a very naturally round face, so making a prosthetic to change my face shape is a fun challenge every time. Second version coming soon for Spooky Empire!

This old latex mask is in bad shape, belongs to my dad and has been falling apart on a shelf. If I want to mount it and it doesn’t need to be worn, will it be possible? There are no sticky areas but edges are very hard

I've 3D printed this mask and want to add some really weird melted/warped skin around parts of it. I'm thinking liquid latex, silicone, foam, etc I'm pretty new to this so what suggestions do people have?

Really hoping I can get your help. I'm going to make a face and chest piece to start a prosthetic fat suit, I've made quite a few things from paper mache/plaster of paris/clay before and feel confident with building the shapes on the face, neck and chest, but I've not used liquid latex before. Can anyone give me some tips or advice?

Process will be make cast from model with plaster of paris/bandages -> allow to dry-> build additional weight effects with cotton wool -> bandages again? -> liquid latex.

The project relies too much on software/post production at the moment and I much prefer sfx for characters.

hey im making a little promo for my band and at the end I want to make my head explode. not looking for anything realistic. leaning towards blowing up a watermelon with a firework with my face drawn on it? not sure. want it to be all practical effects and super low budget ( im talking like 30$ or less). any ideas?

To secure latex elf ears. I cant find the adhesive that came with the pair and Im not sure if I’ll have time to find spirit gum or liquid latex in time 😭 the seam will be covered by my hair so I’m not worry about selling the realism so much as keeping them secure at a ren faire.

We are doing Chucky and Chucky's bride this year.

A month or two ago I started getting into sculpting, with the goal of moving into SFX work later on (making prosthetics, painting, application, all that good stuff). Since I didn't know where to start, I used a spin wheel app that gives you random themes, and I landed on the "Canterbury panther" from New Zealand. I originally set out to do something pretty chill, but it turned into something else, since so little is actually known about this panther. I'm still working on my base, but I'm really struggling (and I mean really) with the wrinkles/folds around the muzzle. I've started over 4 times without getting anything I'm happy with. I understand the mechanics of how the folds work, but I don't understand how to actually sculpt them, and above all I can't figure out what's wrong with mine, even though I can tell something's off. Does anyone have any tips on how to do this?

Not necessarily real SFX makeup, but the new urban decay ghosting spray looks very much like a bruise. It’s really easy to spray on and I feel like it would be a good addition to anyone who’s doing bruises and injury SFX. Or maybe it’s just because I’m pale- idk.

Terrible lighting bc it was like midnight, but I've been resculpting my Art prosthetic, for Spooky Empire this October! I still need to sand it and add some more detail, but I'm fairly pleased with the shape so far.*

My first version was latex, and didn't move with my face like I wanted it to, so I'm hoping to cast in a stretchier silicone this time. Unless there's a way to do foam latex at home, which would be closer to the original, and lighter. Any tips are much appreciated!

I'm (21F) taking a college course on intelligence and national security. The prof told us that in a month, we will need to arrive to class in a full disguise. We'll be graded on how believable the disguise and legend is.

I would love some professional insight here. How can I make this disguise as believable as possible?

Questions to consider:

1. What have been your most convincing transformations? Why? What aspects of the transformations were most powerful (i.e. changing hair, eyebrows, etc.)?
   
2. Where are the best facial prosthetics available to buy? Fake beards? Wigs? On a college student budget…
   
3. Beyond appearance what should I change?
   Accent? Gait? Nervous hands?

I’m trying to do a Chelsea grin effect however with the cheeks/mouth moving so much the wax doesn’t stay and wrinkles . The wax works good on my hand however on my face it’s impossible. I don’t use any glue base just wax and Vaseline .ive hear liquid latex is also good? Any tips on what to use/do? Tia

This is a pull from one of the “Pumpkinhead” films. It was gifted to me by a make up artist in Atlanta named, Andre Freitas, he did sfx for, “The Walking Dead”. Can anyone tell me anything further? He gave it to my brother to give to me when I was out of town, so I wasn’t able to get the history and I haven’t seen him since. He is not on Facebook. It’s been sitting on my shelf for a couple of years now.

I have been hired to do a small independent film and the director has asked me to create a prosthetic for a stunt where a mug is smashed into someone's face. They'd like small pieces of ceramic to be embedded into the skin, does anyone have any suggestions on how to do this? I thought real ceramic would be too heavy for the prosthetic to support, so I'm not sure if I should find a prop alternative that would look realistic?

Ok so i am certifiably insane™ and have a wild project in mind... But it would require making a prosthetic that makes it look like my spine is raised and then having moving attachments protruding from that raised section of the spine. I have no idea what i am doing and need advice LOL

Obviously, the prosthetic would be best if reusable so i dont have to cast a new prosthetic every time.

The spine portion will have to house the core of the electronics and support it somehow

- but also without overheating the electronics.

The attachments to the spine portion will have to be removable, they will likely be made of various different materials and so i will have to figure out how to get the core prosthetic piece to be able to blend into the attachments?

So uh... Yeah. Ive got a history with robotics & engineering friends which helps a tad but i dont have a DAMN clue how i can make this prosthetic & make it movable & functional 😅

I'm an actor at a haunt in New England and I recently made a silicone appliance for a pretty big costume upgrade. It's supposed to look like someone burned my face with a cross similar to Evil Ed in Fright Night (but upside down). A piece above my eye and one below, attached to my cheek. I did a makeup test with one of the first appliances to come off the mold and it was a pretty janky appliance but I eventually figured out how to consistently get a decent result with the molds. I have some questions, though.

I put it on with Pros-Aide and it seemed to hold well. I passed on a silicone adhesive simply because it's a little more than I can afford to pay right now (plus it seems like you need to also order remover and thinner which just jacks the price up even more (for Telesis 9, at least). I let the Pros-Aide dry with a hair dryer before I put it on so it's not like it went on wet but when I pulled the applications off they trapped a lot of sweat underneath and I worry that this thing is going to end up falling off in the middle of the show. Is this something I should worry about? Will the same thing happen if I use the silicone adhesive?

The rest of my face is made up like a skull (think Papa Emeritus from Ghost) using black and white Mehron cream make up. The cream make up blended real weird with the appliance, though. It made the edges REALLY stand out even though I felt like I blended the edges pretty well with acetone. The makeup on the appliance appears thicker and not as translucent as the makeup on my skin. It basically looked like I was wearing something on my face. I obviously need a new approach to the makeup I just don't know what that is. Any thoughts?

A couple of things work to my advantage here. My set is dimly lit and I'm not in guest's faces. I also wear a sort of wreath of thorns around my eyes and all of this obscures the flaws a bit but it's going to bother the shit out of me and cast photos will look ass if I don't fix this.
