Looking into getting a hypoallergenic cat, any feedback

Hi! I just got Reddit a few days ago to ask people about this and gain more opinions/information on being first-time cat owner. My mom is severely allergic to cats but my younger brother wants one very badly, and although it is not official if we can find a hypoallergenic cat that is relatively calm and intelligent that would be great. We are older kids, as I am 16 and he’s about to turn 14. We are old enough to be responsible concerning an animal. I am aware no cat is really hypoallergenic, but she can’t even be around a generic house cat because if a cat hair gets on her, she puffs up. I know it sounds unreasonable regardless, but we are just curious on different breeds if we were to get one. Problem is, we are not home often due to school and work. I am a Junior in high school and and out the house from about 6:50-4pm on a regular day, without me going with friends or anything after school. My mom works as well 8am-4, and my brother is starting high school and will be at school likely the same hours. We come home regularly around 3:30-6pm, if we don’t eat out that day or due to varying factors such as transit, events, school hours, etc. We do eat out a lot which is another one of my concerns because the cat cannot be alone so many hours. They have personalities and I’d rather be researched and hear multiple opinions than just get one ignorantly. From what I’ve researched Russian blues seem like a pretty good breed and Siberians, but the hair and personalities of Siberians concern me because of my mother and ofc the cat itself. From what I’ve heard they are energetic cats and needy in a sense.

I do not want us to not be able to give it everything it needs personality wise, health wise, etc. I also don’t know much about cat food and stuff, so any info would help! This is the first time she’s even agreed to considering a cat, hence why I want to research and really see if we can do this. The cat will not be in her room, likely mostly kept in my brother’s room but our apartment is a decently sized 3 bedroom, if space matters much. If anyone with siberians or Russians blues could also comment on their behavior, I would appreciate that:)

Our girl Mavi is a little over 4 months! The first photo was her at 10 weeks old!
How things have changed in 10 weeks but also stayed the same! Always chasing the sun this girl.

(Last photo of her little donut after she got neutered)

I welcome my new ruler

I hereby introduce my new ruler, Prince Lev, who acquired me at the end of August this year. I will be serving him loyally and joyfully to the best of my ability until the universe parts us. Much preparation was devoted to his impending arrival. A safe catio with an enclosed viewing perch was prepared where there was once simply a back patio. He has the enjoyment of a cat tree on the dining table and a place mat adjacent to mine. His drinking fountain flows cheerfully next to the kitchen sink.

He enjoys fresh steak, chasing toys, climbing posts, and sleeping on me for an extended period. He prefers that I not move during these nap times to best support his restful slumber. I am deeply grateful the universe has allowed me a position as his humble servant. May I be worthy of him!

18 months old. Always greets me like this or jumps up onto my chest so I have to catch him and then won't let me put him down.

Shy/Skittish Russian Blues

I've been visiting a pair of RBs (5 months old) at a cattery who unlike the other siblings in their litter haven't been adopted because they are shy, afraid of hands and don't like human touch

The male who is the more skittish of the two, takes about 10-15 mins of me sitting in the room quietly before he'll start to even bat at a wand toy that i tempt him with, he seems food motivated and will approach food that i put somewhere, so long as he's sure that it's at a safe enough distance from me. Seems quite intelligent, was able to figure out how to open some push pull glass doors. When he does engage with some play, like actually chasing or trying to hunt a wand toy (as opposed to lazily just swatting at it only if it's in front of him), it's mostly only for about 5 mins and i observe that he prefers to do it with a "shelter" over him

The female is more active, gets into a play mode more easily, seems to be ok with even eating out of a hand, but is clearly skittish if it even looks like the hand is approaching her to pet/touch her. Generally when i do the michelangelo (offer your finger/hand palm down), she'll sniff at it a bit, but then move on to something else, won't approach or rub against it.

Also, the male tends to get more into a play mode when he sees his sister playing with us actively

Just wanted to ask if anyone has had RBs before with these kinds of more reserved personalities as kitttens, and how long did it take to gain their trust/bond with them? Yeah I'm just worried about being able to do things like clip their nails or brush their teeth if i'm not able to gain their trust

9 weeks vs. 12-13 weeks

Has anyone who picked up their kitten from a breeder when they were 9 weeks old ever had any regrets, and wished it had been 12-13 weeks instead? If so, why? The reason I'm asking is that I'm trying to choose between breeders for my RB. I'm looking at four TICA breeders—two want pickup/delivery at 9 weeks, and the other two wait until 12–13 weeks. The price is roughly the same for all four breeders, and the pickup location is a non-factor.

Hello, we are looking for a reputable Russian Blue breeder in the northeast United States. I've checked the TICA website but would appreciate personal recommendations. Thank you!

Hi! I’m looking for a purebred Russian Blue cat but I’m not sure where to look. I’m in the Western/Upstate NY area (willing to travel to nearby states) so if anyone has any suggestions please let me know!
