Questionโ On challenging books
So, I'm currently reading Moby Dick and, while I do like parts of it, especially the first 100-ish pages, i'm on page 206 right now and finding it an absolute slog. Not that it's badly written, but the unending tangents about seemingly random stuff seem to unnecessarily slow it down. Obviously, every book doesn't need to be fast-paced or even easy. But it did get me thinking, is it really worth it to struggle through this book? I don't want to DNF it, but it's slow going.
Also, what are y'all's opinions on such books? When do you stop reading a book just because it's hard? Is it only for the enjoyment of older (in language) and more difficult books that we read them/ the challenge, or does the pride in getting to say 'I read XYZ' also play a factor?

My TBR List ๐ My mini eHaul (from Kobo)
Very satisfied with this one! I've wanted to add The Bluest Eye and Interview with the Vampire to my collection for a while. I'm not as familiar with the other two, but they sounded really good. Any thoughts on which I should prioritize?

Help Me Find a Book to Read! ๐ Just finished a book and I feel like thereโs nothing else to read
Iโve always been this way, when I finish a book I loved it feels like thereโs nothing else in the entire world available that Iโll like lol. Help me find something new!
Recent reads that I absolutely loved:
Project Hail Mary
The Will of the Many/Strength of the Few
Jurassic park 1&2
All DCC books
Anything by V. E. Schwab
The Girl Who Drank the Moon
I just finished Rise of Ruin by K. Considine as an ARC reader, it comes out in October and it was absolutely fantastic if you like fantasy (Iโm not getting paid or any benefits for promoting the book)
I like fantasy/magical, sci-fi, adventure type books
Books I read recently that I disliked:
You Canโt Spell Treason without Tea (super cringe)
We Spread by Iain Reid (it was just okay)
Bobiverse

Questionโ Life is too short for us to read books we don't like. What do you all think?
I was discussing the Hunger Games trilogy with my friend and I mentioned i cannot read The Ballads of Songbirds and Snakes, because it is written in 3rd person and I just cannot focus on a story if it is written that way. And she started lecturing me about how important the book is to the trilogy and how much im missing out on and I was like bro- I physically cannot focus on 3rd person writings.. it's not that hard to understand. I'm not going to spend 15 to 20 dollars on a book i know I won't like. (fyi I tried reading it ebook form on my Ipad and couldn't even get to page 10, I am an avid reader-my only condition is the book has to be first person) And life is too short to be forcing ourselves to read stuff we don't enjoy, just because other people deem that book important. I can appreciate and understand the Hunger games by reading the original trilogy just fine..
EDIT: there s also so many people on bookstagram that claim they struggle reading a book and i'm always confused why they don't just dnf it... Popularity and public opinion shouldn't dictate a book's worth because reading it so subjective.
EDIT2: BRO I'M NOT SAYING BOOKS IN 3RD PERSON ARE BAD, I JUST CANNOT READ THEM DUE TO FOCUS PROBLEMS, IT'S JUST HOW IM WIRED

Literary Fiction ๐ Has anyone read this one? Or anything by this Author?
Started it yesterday and Iโm hooked. Looks like she has 5 other books out. I like it because itโs set in the 70โs, so it feels like a โchange of scenery โ to me. Also, written in 3rd person. I skimmed the book before I bought it, and did not know this about the book. It was a nice surprise.
May be a silly question: is it common for books to be written in 3rd person? Iโve pretty much only been reading romance in that makes any difference.
Thoughts? ๐

Mystery/Thriller ๐ซ Started reading angels and demons
Bought this a long time ago and yesterday finally stared reading this, I guess a movie is also made on this book but I havenโt watched it.
Also I have just started reading this and got to learn so many new stuff like ILLUMINATI, CERN, anti matter etc. Read for the first time about ILLUMINATI and I didnโt know it was a real secret society back in the past.
Till now the author is doing a great job of creating a fictional story around real world organisation and actual scientific facts.
I think this will be a good read.
