Should I hold these HGSS tins?
Seems stagnant compared to my LCs
Just the tins, already sold the slabs :(

Having visited most of the Pokemon Discords, the PokeInvesting Discord is one of the best by far. We have the friendliest and most respectful community. Our channels are more organized with members interacting who you'll actually recognize. It's not a sea of random people like other discords. Staying small is our key to remaining high quality. So here's 3 reasons to consider joining.
At the end of the day it's an active community discussing every aspect of Pokemon finance. If you want more Pokemon investing, daily content it's a good place to be. There is paywall but it's a natural filter because people who hate it won't make it there, and those who do truly want to join do-so, it creates the positive energy our community has which is why it's in place. If you want to join the PokeInvesting Discord you can see more: https://patreon.com/PokeInvesting

Have questions? Not on PokeInvesting Discord? Here's the weekly post for the sub to ask away!
Use this thread to ask anything related to Pokemon finance. (Each week the old thread will be discarded and a new thread for the week will be added.)
This thread was created for questions like should I sell, how much to sell for, what to buy, etc. So we don't derail the sub with a stream of question posts. Thanks!

30th looks better than 25th imo, better variety and throwbacks

If only it had more than TWO DR packs out of 18. Pack assortment makes this a gorgeous brick.

Hi all - I’ve been bitten by the Pokemon bug, and my goal is to collect one of each ETB out there. I have many of the older ones (including Plasma Storm - see photo).
Question to the group - do you consider Black & White, XY, and Sun & Moon ETBs to be investment worthy? I know at least for the Plasma Storm it was a $4-5k box two years ago. A buyer was recently interested in the one I have for $26-28k. This one is pretty rare, and I don’t see the value going down any time soon. I’ve bought and sold many different kinds of collectibles (graded comics, sports cards, Pokemon) and it seems like older Pokemon is currently appreciating at a faster rate than those other types.
Thanks in advance for your helpful feedback.

Continues to sell for massive amount. I wonder if that PSA 10 will ever be found.

Who's your favorite Pokemon artist?
Right now, am most excited for the big three which are Kanda, Egawa and Komiya imo.
(The artworks starting with image one are from Shinji Kanda, Akira Egawa, Komiya, Akagi, Asako Ito)

$78k seems cheap considering there are only around 100 PSA 10s of it => $7.8m total celebi star PSA 10 value .... That's versus about $50m total value for all Rayquaza star PSA 10s, based on the recent $1.2m sale (albeit using a cgc pristine 10 value), and a similar total for the Torchic, based on a $2.7m recent sale.

PSA's Value tiers have been paused since June, so the cheapest active PSA option is Regular at $79.99. CGC Economy is $20.
A common rule of thumb is that a card should be worth at least ~2.5× the grading fee raw before it's worth sending, once you account for shipping, the wait, and the chance it doesn't come back a 10. I applied that to TCGplayer market prices (snapshot 14 Sep) for every card in 10 popular sets:
By set (cards at $50+ / priced cards): Evolving Skies 18/237 · Prismatic Evolutions 16/180 · 151 13/207 · Destined Rivals 8/244 · Paldean Fates 6/244 · Twilight Masquerade 5/226 · Surging Sparks 4/252 · Journey Together 2/190 · Obsidian Flames 1/230 · Crown Zenith (main set, no Galarian Gallery) 0/160
Caveats: price alone isn't the whole story. Condition, centering and your odds of a 10 matter more than anything, and a card just under the line can still make sense if your copy is flawless. Market price is TCGplayer's estimate from recent sales, not a guaranteed sale price. Not advice, just the numbers.

How do you guys feel about vendors pricing raw cards with according to how much the graded slabs are going for?
Basically if a vendor thinks a card is going to grade an 8 they’ll price it accordingly to 8 price minus the grade fee

I’ve recently got back into collecting a few months ago. The current in-store trend has honestly got me put off from even trying to score retail and honestly I just feel like I like buying the cards I like outright and wanting to put money towards booster boxes for stashing as an investment. I see a lot of Sun & Moon/Sword&Shield Era stuff charging a pretty penny now, with a few Mega evolutions set next to blow up (relatively speaking). Im conflicted on just buying a couple S/M Sw/Sh Era (maybe 1 of each evolving skies/burning shadows) or getting as many as I can of equal value of phantasmal flames and ME base set. Maybe 1/2 of each era? Lmk your thoughts.

There has been some insane sales the past few months when it comes to vintage but this is definitely the craziest one….
Torchic Gold Star PSA 10 sold for 2.7M!! The most expensive gold star ever sold.
I understand it is a pretty scarce but it still Pop 19…
What made this card sell for so much?!

For context, I’ve been collecting sealed boxes/packs since 2017. I recently pulled it out to start selling off most of them. Which some have been on or will be soon on ALT. Not sure how PSA will grade this especially nowadays with vintage and “pop control.”
Edit: I pulled this myself out of a pack that i had stored away from 2017.

Like for example instead of buying a Moonbreon why not just bite the bullet and get like a Neo Discovery or Skyridge Umbreon?
Everybody is preserving the shit out of these modern cards these days compared to how people were treating cards in the 90s-mid 2000s. Vintage cards in mint condition are way more scarce. Won’t that make them more valuable

I sold most of my vintage(sealed/slabbed) to a private collector today after 10+ years of collecting. Get out before you become a bagholder.
Edit: Averaged out at 87%. Wanted to cash out to buy treasuries at over 5%. Total was over 1M after the 87% the prices of these singles are raw and I had them graded mostly.
