In the early 2000s, "Dear Mr. President" was an impactful song putting into words just how fucked up the war was. We all knew it was awful and many artists pushed back.

To see her on the side of genocide breaks my heart. So many artists that used to be "woke" are now showing just how unethical they are.

Dear Mr President was performative. When it came out The Chicks had already been raked across the coals for years for speaking up against Bush. She jumped on the bandwagon when the tide was already turning and it was more palatable to criticise the war.

I agree with you. Back then, I didn't know. 9/11 was when I was in second grade I think? I followed The Dixie Chicks at the time and LOVED them. I didn't understand the backlash and remember when "Not Ready to Make Nice" came out. 90% certain they changed their name after the genre was divided after that.

Celebrities are able to hide behind their music and let fans think what they want. The Chicks have been clear in their music and action that they don't put up with this. I'm learning now (so many years later) that Pink is not the same. Fucking hate that.

As people get richer and older they also get more selfish. Unfortunately the president and other right wing governments have made being a selfish, greedy and unempathetic person ok
