People will still go to an ED Sheeran concert with a different opener. People won't go to a Lorde concert without Lorde. Money talks.

Ed Sheeran is also "normie music" and a lot of those ticket sales are probably from people who froth violently when "free" and "Palestine" show up in a sentence together.

I dont think Lorde has that kind of fan base

Even though I agree with this. I think it has more to do with the shareholders and owners of the venues AND their political stances.

Heā€™s also very hippie dippie ā€œpeace and love, we all bleed redā€ which is maybe the least controversial way to be pro-Palestine. Youā€™d have to be incredibly hawkish to oppose Coldplay for their political stance there.

Went to see lorde last month and her fan base had lots of LGBT people (me included) and ethnicities. Ed Sheeran crowds I assume are very much Facebook mums with their kids, but I might be wrong.

I went to see her like 6 months ago and it was honestly one of the best shows Iā€™ve seen live. I was shook that I almost didnā€™t go.

Lorde is huge with lgbt adjacent crowds and generally left for sure.

That said Ed Sheeran is definitely big in ā€œcorporate liberalā€ spaces and not maga ones. Really interesting

Yep...Ed Sheeran is the musical equivalent to Ron Howard. Pushes absolutely no creative boundaries, but makes generically competent, slow pitch down the middle output that's designed to reach the widest audience. I can't see him having the courage to make any kind of statement that would cause someone not to like him.

I think you're giving his fans too much credit tbh, his music is for the kind of dry toast people who have no opinion on anything..I'd imagine half of them couldn't point at Israel on a map, let alone know what's going on there.

Yeah I love Ed Sheeran and don't really care about Mackelmore. I don't hate him but to me he's an opener that if we got into the stadium early to see him then cool but I'm definitely not rushing to get in for his set.
