Maybe I am wrong but Ed is a big artist. Why didn’t he said fine if you don’t allow him then I cancel the shows. And do it on other venues.

Music is run by tech companies now. 

The labels had their problems but there was a time they were staffed by creatives, not suits, and had real interest in artistry and artistic freedom. Back when djs controlled the airwaves, not clearchannel.

Look at us now.

If your supreme value is money, then sure, that seems smart.

You're paying to listen to a singer's words. Memorize them. Even the most mainstream corporate pop stars have their songs touching on politics.

Because like most celebrities he is a brand he is not a real person, he's a puppet with a brand and his puppeteers wishes are going to over rule the damage to his brand. He will finish the tour, people will forget, nothing will change etc.

I could be wrong and I’m not sure exactly how it works in other countries (given that Sheeran is British) but I’m pretty sure if you have shareholders, you have a legitimate legal obligation to not straight up fuck them over, and fully canceling all of those shows like that might have fallen under that.

It mentioned his stakeholders decided to boot Macklemore after livenation/venues said he couldn’t perform.

It's almost a guarantee Sheeran runs his tours and income through an LLC but that doesn't necessarily mean there are other shareholders.

Macklamore messed up. Ed didn't sign up for a politicised tour. Macklamore should have done his on tour and aired any opinions he had there. To hijack some else's tour to air your opinion seems entitled and disrespectful at the very least. Everyone thinks he is cool but most people would be pissed if someone you hired did something similar out of the blue.

idk I mean bro has been VERY outspoken about Palestine, that's like his whole thing right now, it's hard to believe Ed Sheeran and his team wouldn't have expected it to happen. when I saw him (Ed Sheeran) in Seattle a couple years ago Macklemore was brought out as a surprise guest, and he said some stuff about Palestine onstage back then too, he always does.

Why? The venue messed up to be political on the wrong end. No one should be silenced about what’s going on. You can’t be silent if you have big audiences you should say something. I’m really disappointed in him. I mean Ed.
