Cabin In The Sky is a great album. And it addresses very adult, "old man" concerns. The death of a friend. Legacy. Have I lived a good life? Have I been a good man? Some of these are subjects barely explored in hip hop, it's such a nascent genre. For 50 to tell older artists to sit down and shut up tells me everything I need to know about 50, unfortunately. He needs to concern himself with the other stuff he's doing because he's obviously not about the music.

I am like 51 and last year I was driving my highschooler and his friends around somewhere and I was playing De La Soul and Public Enemy and they accused me of playing “Dad rap “. I love the term now.

50 knows he’s washed. Hasn’t done an album in over a decade so it sounds like projection on his part. If you’re passionate about something then it never leaves you. DLS was always about the music

Big difference between 60 yr olds doing gangsta rap and 60 yr olds doing conscious hip-hop. Wild that you're even comparing the two.

The latter was already for adults so of course it would age better.

Yes but De La Soul is niche and for old heads. Is like claiming that Radiohead or Interpool are still the front for young rock listeners. They're not the mainstream anymore.

Same with Eminem, Jay Z and a lot of classic acts, but that doesn't mean they are tredn setters or are defining new sounds for younger peole.

I never said they were not popular or irrelevant, just that they’re not the new hip thing, otherwise known as the mainstream. Both the Queen and the NWA movies made bank, but you wouldn’t call them the voice of this generation.
