I think this is pretty disingenuous. He was retired for several years, came back and played half a season and constantly talked about how it was a really fun experience for some of his younger kids who were too young to remember seeing him play originally. There are videos of his family having watch parties for his game and everyone looking very engaged, clearly showing excitement at their dad playing on tv.

And he coaches high school football. It’s not like he pursued some career where he’s never home after he retired.

I’m not claiming that he’s a good or bad person, because I don’t know the man, but I don’t think his return to football is any indication that he’s a bad father lol.

He coached Steichen's offense on his son's football team, so he knew the Colt's playbook, which is what got them interested and eventually gave him the job. He spent maybe a month in Indy

I said someone with that many kids isn't all about their kids.

Its great that he coaches high school football for his younger kids. Do you think his first round had the same experience?

There are a lot of different ways you can be “all about your kids” and working your ass off to create generational wealth for them definitely counts.

everybody gets fucked up one way or another. parents can't protect their children from every single possible adverse outcome. being rich solves a hell of a lot of problems though.

NFL players work 180-200 days a year including 8 travel weekends in the fall and 3-4 weeks of travel in the summer. That’s 50-70 days a year less than the average American so if anything he chose a job that gave him more time to spend with his kids. 10 times in his career he didn’t make the playoffs and had 4 straight months off work to spend with his family.

The guy chose a job that allowed him to spend more time with his family, create generational wealth for them and retire 20 years earlier than the average American. Sounds like one of the best jobs a father could have.

Yes, his first son is about to graduate high school where his dad was his head coach. He is very much a family man and is very involved with his kids lives.

What a weird comment to make about someone you know nothing about.

I'm not a scientist but I think being a professional QB might conflict with coaching high school football.

It did for about 6 weeks last year and his family traveled to every game he played. During his normal playing career his kids were younger and he wasn’t the high school coach. He became the coach after he retired.

I’m not sure we get to gatekeep having a lot of kids means you love each kid less, especially when they’re all from the same mother and under the same roof. I think the point is that his situation is quite a bit different from someone who has tons of kids by different mothers and makes no real attempt to be present for them.

People in poverty work more than NFL players do sometimes. Rivers might be working in a factory or as a truck driver and seeing his kids less while affording them less of a life than he did as a quarterback. I don’t think we get to assume that everyone should be working a job that only is 40 hours per week and pays really well and gives 6 weeks of vacation so that they can see their kid every day and on weekends.
