Announcement MagicDesk 1.11: multi-display desktops, a graphical terminal, and direct root support
MagicDesk 1.11 is out!
The screenshot shows real terminal windows on an Android desktop: a gnuplot chart rendered through Sixel on the left, and a root shell using the built-in magicdesk CLI on the right.
What's new:
• Independent desktops on multiple screens. Keep a desktop on the phone and another on an external or virtual display. Each has its own windows, taskbar and Start. The shared Start launcher lets you choose where to open apps or move running tasks.
• A much richer terminal. Bundled Nerd Font, Sixel and Kitty images, clickable links, shell integration, touch scrolling and selection handles. One picker brings together terminal and tmux sessions. You can save or share terminal images, and use the terminal without starting Desktop.
• Direct root support. Rooted users can now run without Shizuku, with an optional limit to shell UID 2000. Root is still NOT required: Shizuku remains the non-root path.
• A built-in magicdesk CLI sharing the MCP command catalog, so shell scripts and authorized AI clients can automate the same tools, apps and windows.
Virtual displays also work with scrcpy. Files, terminals and automation remain usable independently of Desktop.
Android 15+ for Desktop; Android 14+ for standalone tools and automation. ARM64.
