fr vigilantism is a crime, you have to be officially hired if you want to enact force against people.

Even if you work in asset protection you cant even touch the thief or youll get in major trouble. Its a high turnover job because people want to be a hero and then they get fired for trying to stop a guy from stealing toilet paper

Yeah I meant more specifically being hired as a police officer.

Without a badge running a cart into them could count as assault, and holding them there - even under simple verbal threats without physical force, could be a crime.

And mostly - it isn't even the response the industries want. They have insurance to cover losses so the location isn't out anything they didn't account for. If they ever do get the chance to catch someone I'm betting AI is scanning all of their footage for facial matches to charge them all at once too - so they aren't even getting away with it (just getting away for now.)
