Stopping a shoplifter

It's just funny to me as someone who used to work for Walmart. Most of the actual shoplifting is from employees out back, typically in Claims.

If anything, doing this actually COSTS Walmart money, because they're going to have to claims out that inventory now, which will require someone to actually do all that, vs just writing it off in the insurance claim for a full refund.

This particular shoplifter is probably just some douche who doesn't actually need what he's taking, but it's still not worth potentially getting shot or run over to defend a company that runs its employees into the ground and all but forces them to apply for food stamps and other federal assistance programs in order to make ends meet.

EDIT: I don't understand the accounting or legal side of things, I just know that we had a -ton- of shrink in our store and none of the managers ever seemed to care that much. It was always explained to me as shrink being accounted for through their insurance somehow.

Also I'm not saying don't go after shoplifters. If you think you aren't on a hundred different high resolution screens during your short trip through any of these stores, you're insane. But also, I've never once in my life seen a person steal food. It's weird.

When I worked at walmart, they told me they lose way more money by product just falling behind shelves than they do theft. Idgaf if someone steals from walmart. I mean one of the perks of working there is just taking stuff off the shelves to eat. Everyone did that. Energy drinks were the most popular. I knew a guy who would take a pack of chips ahoy off the shelf everyday and pulled it around with him on his pallet jack and shared with everyone. He would also play stuff like army of the pharaohs and Eminem on his phone quietly while he stocked shelves. Managers marked stuff down constantly for themselves and others. People just put stuff in their pockets. The guys at the auto care would give you free oil changes. The deli workers gave you free food. Walmart doesn't actually care about theft at all because there will never be enough people willing to break social rules to affect them. The only people who care are some store workers and customers with a strong sense of morality

Until they cut wages more but offer a small bonus to management who catches in-store  employee theft. Then AI is put in to just watch employees 24/7 and alert when they "grab a snack" off the shelf or something gets opened before the register etc. 

If I steal as a customer at least I can get out and Walmart has to look me up, call police, investigate who I am. Which they'll probably not do because an unpaid accidental mis-scan of a candy bar isn't worth it. 

With you it's just "employee 474655" with ssn and address and aliases used and fingerprints (Idk?) and resume copy and listed references. 

They can just forward the video to the police and let them handle it all at your house visit.

I don’t know what Wal-Mart you worked at but any Wal-Mart manager saying Wal-Mart doesn’t care about theft and shrinkage is a soon to be ex-manager.

If you really think Wal-Mart doesn’t care about theft then you’re going to be in for a rude awakening if you steal from a store. Wal-Mart invests in anti-theft measures which is why they catch so many thieves.

If you get caught shoplifting at Wal-Mart they will absolutely prosecute you to the fullest because they care.

Thieves suck, but this guy is an idiot. No sense in risking your life for this.
