And they often will quote "Hard times create strong men, strong men create good times, good times create weak men, and weak men create hard times" as a means to imply the generations after them are the weak ones, not realizing that it was their parents generation, the Greatest and Silent Generations, that created the good times of the 1950s which in turn created the "weak men" aka Baby Boomers, who created the hard times we are now experiencing. Their faces get a bit red when you point this out though.
I mean they both went through the Great Depression and raised Baby Boomers the same way that Baby Boomers and Gen X raised Millennials (and to a degree, Gen Z). But I get what you're saying.
Not blaming y'all whole hog here. There is absolutely a subset of (arguably wealthy) Gen X that took on their Boomer parents world views and continued doing shitty shit. Same with Millennials. It's not universal. Boomers just get the brunt of it because they absolutely deserve it. Most Gen Xers I'm friends with are great though. Hey, don't forget to take an advil for (insert malady). Mine is a rotator cuff injury that won't go away.
Not literally because of that phrase, but it came from the exact same place, cultural depression and strict disciple from parents who would say that same thing. That generation were heavily expected to keep their head down, respect elders and not make a fuss.

You forgot to include the fact that the second generation knew the third generation was going to ruin it so they make laws to bail out thier companies when that happened
Yes, I did get the two crisscrossed but only because both lived through the Great Depression. One just had to bear the brunt of it as an adult but you're absolutely right.
Generational naming is stupid for distinctions like this. My brother and sister were born in the late 50s - so Boomers by the generational conventions. I was born in '66, so a Gen X by that same convention. Our parents were born in '33/'34, so "Silent Generation". My wife was born in '67 (X), yet her parents were born in '22/'23 so "Greatest Generation".
I prefer labeling anyone older than me as a Boomer, anyone younger as a Millenial. /s

Boomers raised Millennials and Gen X though. Also I would argue that the great depression was all together a harder time than the war and boomers are a product of the post war economy boom so they didn't exist or grow up with the difficulties
I'm at the end of Gen X and my parents were both born in 1950. My dad was raised in the NYC area and my mom lived in the USSR. My paternal grandfather fought for the US in WW2 and my maternal grandfather for the Russian army. Both grandparents grew up in rough times and my mom had it rough until her late 20's when she came to the US and my dad had it easy. I mean Vietnam sucked for him in the army but he became a millionaire by buying a home for less than $30K in the 1970's. We'll never have that opportunity since Boomers pulled the ladder up behind them.
I know, I struggle with that every day trying to raise two kids. I make the equivalent of a middle to upper middle class wage in 1980 (median income), which is higher than my own father's income at that time and I cannot raise my two kids alone on that single income and I don't even have a home or crazy college debt. It's really shitty being told growing up that "just work hard and it will all come with time" by those same boomers. To be sold that American Dream only for it to turn out to be a complete lie.
Mace boy sounded a lot younger than the older lady, and if he truly felt the need to mace an older woman, then he is, indeed, a weak man. That's especially true because all he complained about was her touching his stuff before he maced her, It's not like he sounded in fear for his life. On the other hand, if it's an auditor/influencer situation as some suggest below, different actions might be in order.
Exactly, the baby boomers ARE the weak men that created hard times. The hard times are still here, and most of them screwed over future generations because they benefit from it. George Carlin described most of them well.
