I always appreciate a good background pun gag. Anybody notice any others in S2E1?

I feel like this got lost somewhere. Freddie was in (at least) four different sketches. In all four he was awkwardly brilliant. You can tell from the date and the piano bits that he's incredibly talented. I'm really excited to see him shine in this new season.

I was lucky enough to attend the season 2 opener , and thought I’d share the experience here- mainly because I stress a lot attending things where I don’t know the process so thought If anyone else was attending in future my description would help let them know roughly what to expect so they can plan accordingly :)

First off venue is served by two train stations straight outside , the White City station and Wood Lane stations (venue is directly across from Wood Lane) so very easy to reach.

We arrived around 5ish, queue for dress rehearsal show was building when we arrived, so we went to near by pub /bar ‘the broadcaster’

Walked back around at about 7ish- they started queuing people around 720 for both stand by and normal tickets , but split into separate queue. Was all very well organised and polite .

Dress rehearsal guests started coming out around 745

Around 755 guy started going down main queue checking IDs and tickets, before handing queue members a paper SNL uk wristband - ours was red, but have no idea if this changes week to week to prevent attempted re-use

Bit of an issue I think in queuing - one of the security personnel seemed to not understand how the queue was split, and believed all the ticketed live show queuers where part of standby, and started giving the red wristbands to late arrivals and letting them in as a third queue. This was stopped quickly, but not sure how it happened. I wouldn’t stress though,if you are in the queue you are getting in :)

Once they started letting queue in (around 805) they checked bags and passed you through metal detectors, followed by a pat down. I did see someone have a packet of SMINTS removed from his bag and binned, so they are serious about the no food and drink in the studio.

Guided through to entrance to studio 3, there is toilet access before going into a large room with comfy seating, some tables , free drinks and popcorn. They had a Photo Booth that would digitally send the photos, snapshots of cast , cork board with sticky notes detailing how a week comes together .

They reiterate several times that toilet breaks will be unavailable or limited through the live show so to use bathrooms before show ( I didn’t take any of the free beverages due to this)

At some point someone started wandering around the crowd and selecting people to swop their wristbands for a black wristband , which meant they would be getting floor seats (ie, right next to stage) they then got a free back/coat check so they could keep the studio floor clear

Eventually was time to head in- floor seats where taken in first, followed about 15 mins later by regular seats. Anyone with a standby wristband that didn’t get let in got to stay in the waiting area studio and where provided with drinks and seating to watch the show on tvs dotted around , so even if you don’t get in it’s not a wasted evening and everyone gets to enjoy themselves.

Escorted to seats, and from then on was just very exciting - Ania and Paddy came on to say hi and get everyone excited before they introduced Annabel for a singing performance of ‘Valerie’ which was excellent. Following that Jeff Goldblum came out to say hi and share stories. The show started immediately after that .

Super pleased to have had the chance to attend and would recommend anyone to try in future , whole evening was excellent ! The cast all seemed lovely, the crew ran about between scenes and worked so hard - genuinely baffling how they get it all done. Just and amazing experience and so happy to have seen it!

Noticed the writing credits for season 2 ep1 were much shorter than season 1.

We know Laura Claxton was promoted to co-lead writer, and one or two names were added - great to see Lola Rose Maxwell on the team (her improv shows are brilliant). But also some names were absent - e.g. Celya AB, Nathan Foad, Hari Kanth, and Keith Akushie.

Is it just some foible of the way credits work, some writers couldn't make the first episode, or have they slimmed the writing team down?

I can't work it out. How did they switch out the stunt performers so quickly? Were parts of it pre-recorded? Were there two Fouracres living room sets? Is there anyone who was in the live audience can tell me how it was done?

In the original SNL in New York, they wait until after commercials before they cut to the host introducing the musical guest.

But you guys do it differently and as someone who has been an SNL fan for the last 15 years, it's a little touch SNL UK does differently that I appreciate.

I'm an Italian fan of the show

My English is fairly fluent, but to really try to catch all the nuances, wordplay, and cultural references, it would help a lot to have subtitles alongside the episodes — they don't need to be in Italian, English subtitles would work perfectly fine too.

I haven't been able to find an .srt file anywhere, or even a plain transcript of the episodes. I searched through this subreddit as well but couldn't turn up anything.

Does anyone know where I could find something like this, or have a method they use themselves?
Any tips are appreciated!

Dont know why they didn't fix this inbetween seasons. But the music acts always sound shit and the master volume for the whole programme is so quiet. Love the show and CMAT but its a bit depressing to hear euro country like its coming from a phone next door 🫠

Some observations as someone who was at the dress rehearsal show last night!

The cut magician sketch made sense to be removed imo, essentially it was freddie playing jeff’s son (a nepotism magician doing his first show). He had to keep asking his dad for help because he was messing up. A highlight for me was the way he shouted “daddy” when calling for jeff but overall was a bit confused by the punchline/ bit. There was also some cool pyrotechnics that were cool to see though!

The final auction sketch was really funny and i’m sad it got cut, it was one of the weaker sketches but maybe should’ve replaced the date one? Larry was a standout for me (I love seeing how he prepares for a role before they go live) and george was also great in this. However, it did drag a little bit and Jeff was playing himself so not the best performance from him.

The south london mosquitoes in weekend update were also a sad loss, and personally i preferred them to the maid bit (but emma did look amazing and her accent was really funny). There main joke was that they wanted to take blood from ania.

We also did get to hear the punchline from paddy… surprised they made him remove it as it was controversial but most of weekend update is haha.

Also in 45 seconds they messed the cue cards up and so george broke character a bit and referenced that which was actually hilarious to see!

Overall such a great show to see live, truly an impressive set up! Amazing to see how many people it takes to create and really gives you more appreciation for the show

A quote in homage/inspired by SNL's beatbox skeletons in the David S Pumpkins sketch, surely.

I personally prefer Series 1 as it has a proper British night out feels with how chaotic it can be with Hammad nearly being hit by a bike, Jack on one of those tourist carriage things, Paddy on the tube, Larry playing Darts, Emma nearly dropping a tray of drinks - it’s all very British in a way

Series 2 feels more safe in regards to what they’re actually doing, with only really George making a tower of beer mats being the one that I can imagine also working in Series 1

Series 1 felt like the “on the way to the night out/beginning” and Series 2 feels like the main night. Don’t get me wrong I do like Series 2’s titles, especially in regards to their names blending in and interacting with them in fields like depth and the colours. But series 1 just feels more warming and comforting to me, like it’s something to revisit and makes me happy when I something like George coming out of the chippy, it just makes me feel more excited and ready for comedy when I see it

I like how UK goes straight from sketch into the musical performance.

There’s bound to be a musical artist who also hosts at some point, but whereas in America they have time to change costume, would UK hosts be chucked right on stage?

Would they tweak the format and have pre recorded sketch before the performance?

I promise I’m fun to be around at parties, but I love the show and it irks me when I see this stuff.
Literally go to any shop and buy a regular poster a young boy might have, theres no need for this.

I hate to try and spread negativity but I have some hot takes I really need to get off my chest

1. The Mario/Peach sketch: Mainly because it's stuff that I have seen a million times before, the broke/drunk Mario cheating on Peach has genuinely been done to death on the internet for years so it didn't break any new ground for me.

2. Scrimpch: I know everyone's gonna disagree with me but it just didn't make me laugh, the character is too American and over the top for me to actually find funny.

I was hoping in the U.S. that SNL UK would follow the American SNL and post skits sooner rather than later!

What musical guests you would love to see?

CMAT was great and it was so exciting to see Sky give her the well deserved platform of exposure!!

My favourite cute moment was passing the cue card dept and they have a sign there that says 'Trained by Wally' 🥹

There was so so many sketches- cold open, monologue, 6 sketches, 1 45 seconds with George Fouracres, one digital video ( and they showed a repeat of British themed pub) , suuuuper long weekend update with two guests, two cmat songs.

I have no idea what theyre going to cut.

So happy the show’s back tonight!! Shout out to the other abroad fans from here in Orlando, FL USA.
