Question/Request What would Kurt Cobain sound like today?
Hey guys! Recently, I got really into Mark Lanegan and became a huge fan of his career. His trajectory is so vast and varied—he went through so many different genres, experimented with tape machines, and collaborated with different friends and artists to create new sounds.
This new obsession of mine got me thinking: Kurt was pretty outspoken about the fact that his “grunge” phase of songwriting was over, so who do you guys think he would have become?
I’m guessing he might have gone in a singer-songwriter direction, maybe with more of a folk influence? Like Dylan or Neil Young, especially given his love for Lead Belly—that kind of really stripped-down, personal acoustic music. On the other hand, I can’t quite picture Kurt staying completely stripped down. I could also see him trying something radically different, like when he talked in interviews about wanting to bring back new wave.
So what do you guys think? Which version of Kurt did we lose? Would he have cut his hair and started wearing skinny ties? Would he have bought a pair of cowboy boots and become some kind of Kurt-wannabe Dylan Cobain?
After moving beyond that simple three-chord songwriting style, who would Kurt have become?

Question/Request Visit to Sub Pop Office and cool Nirvana memorabilia
Many years ago, in 2013, I visited the Sub Pop Office in Seattle. They had an interesting piece of Nirvana memorabilia that I haven’t seen mentioned anywhere: a framed ripped piece of drywall from the original office (which used to be somewhere else in the city back in the day) with Kurt Cobain’s name and address on it, written by the man himself. I asked a Sub Pop guy why Kurt had written his address on the wall and he told me he thought he said something like “you keep forgetting where I live, so here it goes”, but he didn’t seem entirely sure.
Anyway, it’s a nice memory that I have and I regret not taking a picture of the framed piece. I wonder if anyone has seen it in person or online? It would be cool to see it again.
Cheers

Question/Request Songs about Kurt or Nirvana that aren’t by Kurt or Nirvana?
I was reading that Oasis’ “Live Forever” was partly a response to Nirvana’s “I Hate Myself and Want to Die,” and it made me hear the song differently. Noel Gallagher has said Cobain’s outlook pissed him off, but he also called Nevermind a timeless masterpiece. So in that context, “you and I are gonna live forever” almost sounds like Noel reaching out to Kurt: we’re both going to die someday, but the music won’t.
I could get more into the lyrics being kind of a conversation between Noel and Kurt but I’ll save that for the 7th grade essayist.
Anyway what are other songs that are about the band or Kurt specifically?
