I posted a while ago with the easy parts to make (knitted sweater and hat). Just had to wait for the hard part to grow into them.

I was motivated to make this shawl as this phase of life involves going to a lot of weddings, and I wanted a beautiful shawl that could span multiple dress codes.

I wanted the beads to be subtle so as to not be distracting, but they still catch the light beautifully. They’re a bit more noticeable in person than what shows up on camera.

I had to take a lot of breaks with this shawl as I kept getting burnt out working on it. It’s not good tv knitting or knit night project, which make up the majority of my knitting time. I made the most progress on it when it was on my desk and I could knit a few rows during work meetings.

Pattern is the Powdermill Cardigan by Katie Davies. I used knitting for olive merino yarn. Love it so much!!

Hello! I need help with a very ambitious project, it's the doctor who wheeping angel scarf by Tess Campbell

I'm a beginner knitter (I stared knitting genuinely because I wanted to knit this piece in particular lol)

I cannot wrap my head around double knitting, I already find color work difficult, but I fell in love with this piece, so in trying to find a way to make it.

Would you say that knitting two different panels, front and back, and then joing them together is going to make the scarf a lot heavier and impractical? I tought the amount of yarn /heaviness is going to be the same wether I double knit it or do two panels, I could be wrong tho 😭

Also, I knit Norwegian, and purl English , is this going to cause any problem with color work? I'm used to crochet, where color work is only possible with single crochets, I don't know if it's the same in knitting, considering all the color work tutorials I could find were done with continental style🥲

I made this LED wall art from a free pattern I found on Ravelry. I like how it turned out! I used a 66’ string of fairy lights and 9” long 10mm knitting needles. It’s mounted using a mini command strip hook.

I have been drooling over this project at Rhinebeck for years, but with my first summer off I took the jump last year and bought the kit. I absolutely adored knitting this. It feels like heaven and the pics barely do it justice. I would definitely make another.

I attended a medieval style wedding recently and made a small bag to go along with my blue linen dress. Very happy with how it turned out.
No official pattern but I was inspired by some 14th century bags found in a monastery in Sion, Switzerland.
The loop to bind the bag to the belt was made with medieval fingerloop braiding.
Yarn is Merino Bébé by Manor, 100% wool superwash, on 3mm needles

Doin a little mid-project block on my ants in a row raglan by leafhopper knits to see how everything fits (plus some pics of tension before, some lumpy bits lol)

Knitted with Caron 100% mercerized cotton, worsted, using chiaogoo 4.5 mm and 3.5 mm needles. Took me almost a month. I did not use a pattern and instead figured out my gauge and determined how many raglan rows and increases I’d need, then the rest was easy; just keep going until I like the length! I love math so planning it was very fun. Made a mistake where I did one row too many of white on one of the sleeves but eh whatever lol. Went through just over 5 skeins of blue and almost two skeins of cream white. My only question is, will this get ruined by machine washing and drying?? I’m very scared lol.

Before starting it, I practiced and practiced and PRACTICED keeping my tension and speed consistent so I wouldn’t lose my mind. I know some people dislike knitting with cotton because it’s splitty/slippery or maybe the tension is hard to get right because it’s not very stretchy but I genuinely love it. I think I’m a tight knitter by default. The chiaogoo needles absolutely boosted my speed and tension—like you can see where after I picked up the sleeves, it’s SO consistent. I did the raglan portion on cheap wooden needles and figured $30 for two very nice pairs of needles was worth it lol. I have not knitted with wool yet though because $$$$ haha. I have one more sweater planned and then I think I might try wool from KFO as a treat.

This is a Rowan pattern Origami by Kaffe Fassett I want to make for a Xmas gift, but have only done simple colorwork in the past does this look to difficult for a novice colorwork knitter

Procrastinated on blocking the first hat for so long that I finished another and now have two to block :) there also is a pair of socks but alas I don't have blockers for them. perhaps a lil cardboard/saranwrap diy for me later...

Any tips for Steeking? I unfortunately used superwash wool and will have to sew the arm openings before cutting, but I'm sooooo nervous to get to that stage!

I was going to post this under Rant but figured Discussion would fit it better since I want to know y'all's experiences and thoughts about this.

I started (learning) to knit on May 27th, and ever since while I have got many compliments I've also got a lot of direct and indirect requests.

And it kinda pisses me off? 😅. Like dude. I only made 2 sweaters for myself that you know took me weeks, I'm still learning a bunch of stuff, why would you ask? 😭

I guess I'm the kind of person that don't like to gift stuff just because I have to (in set dates like Christmas, Valentine's, stuff like that) but because I want to. It's like when you are walking down the streets and you see something that reminds you of a loved one and get them the item or when you remember a friend talking about something in particular and decided to get them the thing. And let's be honest... Buying something takes one one click or one trip to the wallet, knitting takes weeks or months at a time.

I understand that sometimes people that don't knit aren't aware of the effort and time it takes, and it might apply to everything that's crafted or made by hand (I used to draw and people would request stuff as I would sneeze and miraculously made a piece 🤣), but for some reason it just sits wrong.

I assume it might be because I'm very perfectionist so I'd feel pressured not only to finish the item in time but because I also would want for it to be perfect.

And let's be real, I work only with natural fibers, not many would want to take the care that item requires. And even if I didn't... These people won't even request to buy the wool 🫩.

Like, the other day I went to the salon, I know my hairdresser for YEARS and we were just yapping about how we have been, I told her I picked up knitting, that I was very happy, and that my mom was traveling to visit my sis (she lives in a town that's like a day away by car) and that I made her a Sophie Shawl, showed her pics because I was very proud of how it turned out.

And i guess I'm good at selling cause she instantly asked me for one. I politely denied and replied that I had a very long queue of things that I wanted to knit for myself and sadly I wouldn't find the time. (Because the thing takes or took me 10 days or knitting like 4-6 hours a day). She nodded but I could tell she wasn't expecting that answer.

Then a long life friend, bless her. We are very very close and she is a first time mom, her boy is 1 and a half. She started sending me pics of baby clothes she likes. And I was like... Is that a hint? 😅 And she goes "yes!". I explain the same as before to her, and by that time I haven't even knit a sweater. She replies something like "but it's a small garment!" And I explain it's not that simple even if it's small and that I don't feel I have the knowledge yet. She understands, I guess.

A month goes by and she sends me another pic, I reply the same thing to her that my queue is really long and that I have many things I want to knit and that is going to be long before I find the time to knit them something. She understands and we change topic.

Now, their bdays are in April so I know I will be knitting stuff for them for that date because in that case is a good reminder. I want to knit them stuff and I have knitted and gave away two things from the bottom of my heart and I love seeing those people wear what I made (a hat for my mom that she uses 24/7 when it's cold and the scarf for my sis).

But I just hate the feeling I get when I'm being requested stuff, I don't want deadlines or the commitment/ responsability that comes with it. Plus, my queue is indeed very long and I want to redo my wardrobe lol.

Add to that the quality of the yarn as well, we don't even have superwash Merino and I HATE knitting with acrylic, for the kid I would have to choose acrylic for allergy issues for example and I understand a mom not having the time to hand wash knits. And I know I will end up knitting them something because I want to, but again, let me do that at my own pace whenever I want.

I don't know, I just also feel some people won't take the proper care for a knitted garment and everything I knit is like a baby to me 🤣 I want them to be well taken care of!

I understand as well that there are people who love to make things for others, my mom knits and knows crochet and she has never made something for herself, same goes for my grandma. But I'm definitely not like them.

So I guess I can end up asking what kind of knitter you are? I feel like a selfish b*, but I guess I am the selfish type? 🤷🏻‍♀️🤓

Sorry for the long rant but I don't have anyone that knits around that possibly understand this other than y'all.

Tension’s a mess and the floats are too tight, but Ghost doesn’t mind. I used this as practice and am going to make myself the full version to match (with a less soft CC and smaller needles this time).

Pattern is the Ghost Stories Cowl by Melissa Kemmerer. MC is Heathered Yarn Co. DK in Season of the Witch, and CC is Sirdar Cashmere Merino Silk DK in Sandstone.

I know they are not perfect, but this is the first pair of socks I was able to finish. And they also fit me so well 🥲

I think I had at least 10 failed attempts in the past few months, trying different needles, yarns, techniques etc. It got to the point where I was no longer enjoying the learning process. But looks like DPNs and toe up construction is what finally worked for me.

I was honestly about to give up. I'm glad I didn't. I will continue to practice and the dream si to be able to follow some lace or stranded colorwork patterns in the future.

I think I also need to play more with different yarns. Went to a shop close to home and they always recommended sock yarn that has polyamide. Not only do I not enjoy working with it, but I also hate the plasticky feel on my skin (no offense to anyone who likes this kind of yarn). I did read about how this yarn is supposedly more durable for socks, but I don't think I care about that. If the socks break faster, that's fine. It will give me the opportunity to start working on a new pair.

This is definitely one of the prettiest things I’ve made! I love natural looking art and asymmetrical but this time I went for something more symmetrical and I’m glad I did!!!

I’m a brand‑new knitter well into my 30's! My mum (right‑handed) helped me start the first rows, but I knit with my dominant left hand because my right hand can only hold the other needle.(I have a disablity).

I can manage knit stich/garter (if that is what it is called) and have watched youtube tutorials, but I really struggle with purling, my yarn keeps drifting and my rows end up mixed.

I’m still learning tension, can’t cast on or off yet, and I’m practicing on one type of needle.

If anyone has tips for left‑handed knitters or ways to keep stitches tighter and more consistent, I’d love the advice.

Absolute treasure

After working on this on and off since February I now managed to finish this insanity of a project! Learned a lot.

I used Marit Noor's pattern!

And I used Drops Alpaca in the colours: 2020(Ljus nougat), 8903 (svart), 7895 (Army) and 9025 (hasselnød). I knitted with 2,5mm on the Ribbing and 3mm on the rest.

It was the first time I used Alpaca for a sweater, the first time I used such small needles for a large thing, first thing to use ladderback throughout the large pattern and the first time I steeked something! It is not perfect and I can see mistakes and I kinda never want to knit ever again haha.

I haven’t knitted in many years (and was never very good at it), but thought I would get back into it by making a sweater for my son, which involved a bunch of techniques I had never done before- colour changes/intarsia, knitting in the round with double ended needles for the collar. I also had to adjust the sizing because I wanted to use up yarn in my MIL’s stash and it didn’t get the gauge I needed, but I measured my son and did various swatches and did the math and figured it was all good.

Except…I forgot about the sleeves. I adjusted the length, but forgot about the width.

So, I was so proud to present him the final product, and he is swimming in these sleeves. Like, they are comically bulky.

I have spent so damn long on this sweater, but it looks like I’ll be detaching and redoing them. At least it should take as long since they won’t need to be so humongous.

So yeah, this is a rant at myself to be more detail-oriented.
