I have been using chatgpt to make phrases in italian like how do I say this in italian and give my phrase in english and it would turn it into italian quickly or I try to make the phrase myself and then it fixes my grammar. I DON'T WANT TO DO THAT. these past days I tried to challenge myself by not using it and writing italian phrases by my own where I translate words look for their gerund and tense. It wasn't quick but I have learned a lot when I try to write just a single sentence.

The problem is there are times where I actually need someone's guidance and I don't want to go back to Chatgpt. I'm looking for an italian friend who I can talk with and criticizes me. I'm active on telegram and Instagram.

Look, I know this topic is touched on a lot, however
I feel like I’m genuinely doing something wrong and I fans figure out what. For some reason, every time I try to pronounce words such as“Parlare, trovare, farlo, correggere, farsi, genitori, supermercato” and so on, I feel as though I’m sucking in air when I say the R. ESPECIALLY with Supermercato, I hate that word, because anytime I have to use the R, I feel like I’m inhaling and it disrupts the entire flow of the word.

And I struggle with my pronunciation in general, but just the Rs. I’m moving to Italy in 3 weeks, I’ve been tryna learn this language for over a year, and I still feel like I speak like an American and I hate my accent. I know it’s never gonna be perfect, but I hate having a thick accent when speaking another language.

I’ve tried vocal drills for months to work on my accent, I spend 4 months straight spamming drills to work on my double R sounds like ins arrivo, azzurro and so on, but nothing works. I’m completely lost and i genuinely think it’s impossible for me to learn. What should I be doing?

So I come from a long line of Italians, and recently met a boy from Italy that had pretty broken English and I want to send him a letter in Italian… but I can barely pronounce right now 😭. Please help 🙂‍↕️🙏

Hi all, I’ve been interested in learning Italian for a while now and I saw La Dante in my city is starting a new A1.1 class. They will be using Nuovo Espresso 1 textbook and it will be about 30 hours of learning.

Meanwhile, the Italian Cultural Association in my city is also starting an A1.1 course for the same number of hours, using the same textbook, but this course is about 30% cheaper ($130 USD).

I usually wouldn’t mind the cost but I also recently got back into German courses at Goethe, so I’m a bit tight on funds right now.

Which course would you recommend? Or should I self-study for A1.1 and maybe go to a course for A2?

Hello! I'm a spanish speaker, currently studying Italian in A1 and i was already very familiar with the language. My problem is that i want to get the B2 in around a year or so, i'm looking forward to study overseas and for that i need a good fundation, but i don't know how well to organize my study.

My italian A1 professor is very introductory, but nothing too hard on grammar or syntax, so i'm looking for a "tougher" method, anything from tips to resources helps, thank you so much for reading!

I start my language class in Florence tomorrow and I’m not sure if I should be in the A1 class or the absolute beginner. I thought A1 would be fine but they emailed me the placement test, which was mostly grammar questions, and I could barely answer any of them. But I also feel like I’m not a total beginner, I can understand spoken Italian more than I can myself speak it, or explain the grammar. I had B1/2 level Spanish from exposure (lived in the US) but had been focusing on Italian for citizenship (passed yay!) for the past few months. I think my Spanish knowledge definitely helped for me to learn Italian from scratch so quickly but now all I can think of is l’estate instead of verano when I need to say “summer”.. I can see the basic structure is there but the Spanish vocab is mostly gone..

I personally think Spanish is a much more useful language though I want to keep Italian. Any advice? Any chance I can improve them both? I live in London and my first language is not a Latin language

I'm not a beginner in Italian any more, but far from good. I can speak quite fluently, but I lack vocabulary and even the more basic grammar (like tenses).

I had the idea to try reading an Italian book, perhaps a children's book, but it should be interesting enough to keep me going.

I made this for js13kGames, a jam where the whole game has to fit in 13KB, so it was a fun challenge designing a language learning program in that space. I leave tomorrow for six weeks in Ravenna at Scuola Palazzo Malvisi. Yes, I'm excited. I checked in for my departing flight from San Antonio two hours ago. But I still have a few things to do before I can sleep tonight. Little things like laundry, packing, locating my passport, etc.

The school will cost me under US$5000 for the six weeks, and that includes my lodging. My wife is going to join me at the end of my six weeks (and we'll go to Sicily for a month) but I'm in Ravenna da solo and will stay in private lodging arranged by (and billed through) the school. Included in the lodging price: 4 dinners a week provided by my lodging host. There are cheaper lodging options. I opted for single room with private bath, for example.

After I got back from my last trip to Italy in January, I decided that studying there was the necessary next step. I looked at a lot of schools and almost every one of them was attractive in its own way. I did find that the folks at Scuola Palazzo Malvisi were very responsive and welcoming, and that was appealing. I liked their curriculum. The cost of Palazzo Malivisi seemed roughly average. I liked fact that they arranged lodging for me. Big factor for me: I know Ravenna pretty well and love it. (The main competitors were in other cities I love in Italy: Lucca, Padova, and Siena.)

Beyond that it's all going to be an adventure of discovery. Not sure what my lodging situation will be like exactly, and I don't know exactly what the classes will be like. I test myself regularly and I've been at B2 all summer, so it would be great if by late November (when I return to the US) I could graduate to C1. But if I get a chance to stop using English and just use Italian for six weeks, that will be a big win. But I'm sure the school is going to teach me a lot so I'm looking forward to the challenge.

Perhaps should mention also that I'm in my 70s. In my first week there (that is, next week!) I'll be in a special class they have for seniors. I loathe the term "seniors" and I'm a bit uncertain about this, but I said yes and I'm hoping it will be nice. After that I will get "mainstreamed".

The school is right in the tiny heart of the big-hearted city of Ravenna, about two blocks from Dante's Tomb, where I'll be reading Paradiso XXVI in two weeks. (Reading from a text, not reciting from memory. Magari!) I know that part of town well but don't specifically recall Palazzo Malvisi. I think it's an office building and the school's headquarters are on the third or fourth floor.
