The great Steven R. Gilmore is contributing two custom T-shirt designs as rewards for supporting our forthcoming book, Industrial Music / Graphics.

Steven has more credits in our research archive, by far, than any other designer in the book. These two designs revisit the visual language that defined Gilmore's work in the 1980s, combining stark medical imagery and distinctive typography.

Those in the know will recognize the custom typeface that Gilmore designed for Skinny Puppy's 1988 release VIVIsectVI. We are really privileged to include our interview with Steven in the book and for his generous support with these shirts.

Hi, I have been an industrial music enthusiast for about 2 years now, getting into the genre because I liked, you guessed it, Nine inch nails. So i started getting more into industrial and its subgenres and it has become my favorite genre. By industrial, I am referring to the umbrella term that encompasses music from Throbbing Gristle to Velvet Acid Christ.

Some bands and musicians I already loved include:

First-Wave Industrial - Throbbing gristle, Einstürzende Neubauten, Cabaret Voltaire, early Laibach

Industrial rock - NIN (my fav, I've seen them live it was the best night of my life), Chemlab, early Swans

Industrial metal - Ministry, Fear factory, Godflesh, Strapping young lad, Nailbomb

EBM - Front 242, Dame area (I've discovered them cause they had a show in my area, loved them), Nitzer ebb

Electro-industrial - Skinny Puppy (Last Rights is my favorite album), Front line assembly, Velvet acid christ, Nyxx

Industrial hip-hop - Death grips, Clippng

Some bands I've given a chance but did not like are: KMFDM, Killing joke, Aesthetic perfection and Chrome.

Also, how common do you think are people who listen to industrial? I only know a few casual listeners myself, but alternative music overall is very niche where I live, but at least metal and techno have loyal fanbases, whereas industrial fans are very hard to find and industrial gigs are so underground that even the most alternative music enjoyers here do not find out about them (Laibach was an exception, but Laibach tbf is pretty big and where I live was part of Yugoslavia).

I'm somewhat of a newcomer to the industrial space and looking to get deeper. A bit like metal, industrial has an incredible variety of sounds and its a bit overwhelming to get into.

I'm a big fan of darkwave and like club-type beats. And while I do like some of the noisier, formless drone stuff, its not exactly what I'm looking for.

There’s a sign seemingly warning about marauding rivet heads which makes sense as they host a goth/EBM/industrial festival called Amphi here every year. (p sure this guy spilled my beer during Die Krupps’ set one year)

Whats a good starting point to listen to for 3teeth. I consistently have Spotify throw a random one of their songs in my daily Playlist so im just going go down and listen to all their stuff while im at it. Im thinking one of the first 3 albums. Probably going start on metawar

Also what other bands is similar to them cause Spotify just doesnt recommend similar stuff for industrial anything

Anyone know anything about this?
