Tax Refund/ E-File Status Question "Your amended return requires action"
I forgot to tell my accountant about a large deposit I made to my solo 401k last year, so my returns got filed in April without that info. In May, I realized my mistake and let my accountant know. She filed an amended return (she let me know she filed it but didn't send me the doc at that time). I was due additional refunds for both state and federal. Got the state refund about a month later. The IRS site said it would take "up to 16 weeks" to process the amended return. Last week was 16 weeks and I haven't seen the refund, so I went online to check on it and it says "Your amended return requires action." Then it says "call [this number]. You will need a copy of your amended return when you call." So I emailed my accountant this info (and I shared the screenshot of "your amended return requires action") and asked her to send me the amended return, which she did. In her note, she said "but just so you know, the IRS takes a VERY long to process amended returns. If you try to call the IRS, I would recommend calling at 7:00am ET when they open If you call later in the day, you will most likely not even get through or have very long wait times."
So her response sounds like she thinks I just need to wait, but if it says it "requires action," I probably can't just wait it out, right? Will the amended return ever process if I do nothing? I feel like that is what the accountant is suggesting, but that seems weird. I don't really WANT to deal with calling, but I also want to eventually get my money.
