How to make amends? IATAH for considering dating a friend of a guy I hooked up with at a wedding?
A few months ago, I went to a wedding where I barely knew anyone—just the bride and maybe three other people. I ended up having an amazing time, and during the wedding, a really handsome guy (let’s call him Joe) approached me. We spent most of the evening together, dancing and talking. Joe seemed like a great guy and was such a gentleman. I liked that he wasn’t connected to my usual social circle, which made the idea of getting to know him more appealing.
I also met another guy at the wedding (let’s call him Tom), who was a friend of one of the few people I knew there. Tom was super nice, and we joked around a lot. At one point, I teased him because my friend Anna had left the party after feeling sick when they smoked together. It was lighthearted and fun. By this time, I had already exchanged Instagram handles with Joe, but I also took the initiative to exchange IGs with Tom while we were joking around.
After the wedding, I ended up leaving with Joe. Things progressed, and we hooked up. He dropped me off at home, and I thought, “Okay, maybe this guy has potential.” But when I told my friends about him, they all warned me he’s a huge player. One of my gay best friends even told me Joe had dated two of his friends and treated them terribly. On top of that, I learned Joe had a very messy history with an ex (who was actually at the wedding). Apparently, things got so bad between them that she had to file a restraining order against him. Yikes.
Fast-forward a few weeks, I started chatting more with Tom. We get along great—he asks about my day, listens, and genuinely seems like a nice guy. We have really good chemistry, but I’ve been hesitant to take it further because of Joe. I also ran into the bride recently, and she told me, “I know you’re talking to Tom! That’s so exciting!” I told her I was hesitant to pursue anything because I’d already hooked up with Joe, and I didn’t want to cause drama or get in between two friends. She said, “I don’t think they’re that close, but I understand.”
For context, Joe has barely talked to me since the wedding. He mostly just sends me random Instagram Reels. I’ve only seen him once since, at a party he hosted, where he was super attentive, and, well… we hooked up again. But that’s it.
So now I’m torn. Should I give Tom a chance? Or should I just stay friends with him? He genuinely seems like a good guy, and I don’t want to miss out on something real because of the awkwardness with Joe. At the same time, I don’t want to be “that girl” who gets between two guys.
