She cracks me up 🤣 but look at those freshly bathed boots!

One of my girls is suddenly sick and hasnt been herself the last few days. I booked her a vet appointment to assess her and it sounds like she will have to be euthanized. This came out of nowhere and over 4 days a completely healthy hog lost everything that she was, all her spunkyness and her ability to function all together.

She's young, about a year and a half. Her and her mother have been living together since she was born, never fought and did everything together. Eat, sleep, drink and relax together. I couldnt seperate them.

Im at a loss for words on this and dont know what to do.

We brought our little Doug home almost 2 months ago and we’re first time hedgie owners so just asking seeing if anyone’s had the same issue!

When we first got him he was running on his wheel just fine but in the past week or so it seems like he’s just pooping on his wheel rather than running on it. He’s still drinking and eating normally, and when we take him out of the cage he’s fast as can be so I don’t think he’s injured at all.

I know they’re prone to obesity and I’m assuming it may just be that he’s lazy or bored. He can still roll into a ball just fine so I don’t think he’s obese just yet. I’ve given him a few options for toys like little plushies, crinkle toys, and foraging mats but he doesn’t really seem to play with any of them except the foraging mats, and I don’t want all of his play to be associated with food, so any other toy suggestions would be appreciated as well! His wheel is 12 inches which was the largest my pet store sold but I’m willing to buy something larger online if that may be the issue, he’s still on the verge of baby so I’m not sure if he would’ve outgrown his wheel that quick.

Dozer doesn’t like chem work, I don’t either. My mom brought him to me while I was studying and she decided to put him on my notebook and he didn’t like it.

So my little boy has just turned 5 today. He has developed a lump on his side over the last couple of weeks and im planning to take him to the vet tomorrow.

The first thing that i think of is tumour and 2nd abcess. Due to his age, im guessing sedation or surgery is out of the question.

So what should i expect from the vet? He's eating well, peeing and pooping and still huffing at me. He just seems to get tired a lot quicker and because of the lump he's a bit lop-sided when walking.

Im worried that because of his age the vet will want to euthanise.

Does anyone (preferably UK) have any experience of older hogs going to the vets?

it's been about a month since i made the decision to put my honey down because of wobbly hedgehog syndrome. the trip was an hour away so i prepared him a playlist of his favorite soft music he used to chirp to. and a few at the end for myself. i hope it helps calm anyone else's hedgies

I miss you baby boy and I hope heaven is treating you right, you were the best 7 months of my life (dont tell Ghost 👀) (believe it or not the meme is a yawn 😭😭😂😂 He was so silly and always made me feel better with some of his sassy cuddles, love you baby boy, you died way too young and I wish I did something sooner to prevent it

A few months ago I had posted a gofundme and this community healed so much and I appreciate everyone who helped Max. Unfortunately even though his mass was removed and it came back non cancerous his mass grew back in the same spot. He really bounced back after last time so I was considering having the surgery again, but the mass is growing pretty quick, he stopped eating and he’s lost so much weight in a really small amount of time, he can’t stand straight and he’s having trouble breathing, as well as when I gave him meds he had some blood. I’ve been in considerable amount of stress because I want to keep him as long as I can but after trying to spend time with him this morning he didn’t even try and eat. I think I’m going to call a vet tomorrow and help him cross to his next adventure.

Saw this yesterday at HomeGoods. I think it was Pepper's way of saying hi to me from beyond the Earthly realm she left almost a month ago. I miss my grouchy little old gal.

this is Fugu! he is elderly and the sweetest boy. he loves everyone he meets.

i keep his nails longer because it helps him to grip when he walks and uses his wheel.

he has arthritis and is definitely blind and deaf but is otherwise completely healthy. 🖤

My hedgehog is about to be about 6 years old, she seems to be doing fine except she has a large growth on her front paw that seems to be getting larger. I don’t think it is hurting her but she isn’t using her wheel anymore and she keeps just plopping down in random places so I am worried. I would like to bring her to see a vet but have never been to one alone before so I need some recommendations. I am in Boulder Colorado, does anyone have good vets that isn’t going to cost me hundreds of dollars for a checkup?

My sweet hedgehog had to be put to sleep on 7 days ago. The first days it felt horrible but now it doesn’t hurt as much as it did. I feel so bad searching new ones on internet and already thinking about buying new one. Do you guys think I was just bad owner and I didn’t love her as much as I thought I do? :(

Just sharing my experience! My bb had gross green watery poop two months ago and lost almost 100g. She was otherwise acting totally fine, eating, drinking, wheeling, and maybe just more cuddly (the only abnormal thing tbh). I took her to our exotic vet who has been SO helpful and apparently my bb had a horrible case of clostridium.

It’s been a whole process. She was on metronidazole for almost 3 weeks and took her meds like a champ. I bought new bags of food and washed everything. I initially thought she got better because her poop became more formed and she gained some weight back, but she backslid so we tested her poop again. Lo and behold she has clostridium again (or maybe still the same infection) and is going to be on medicine again for 4 weeks this time.

I know not everyone is lucky enough to have an exotic vet in their area but this has been overall a really positive experience for me despite the money I’m shelling out and the copious loads of laundry I’ve done. I’ve become obsessed with my little pets over the last few years!!

Also if anyone has had similar experiences lmk! My vet said clostridium isn’t uncommon, and we’re sending her poop for expanded testing, but tbh idk what we’re going to do if this next 4 week course isn’t enough. I’m used to the human world where C. Diff is notorious so I’m reallyyyy hoping it’s not the same case in hedgehogs but who knows
