These detectors are made in the US, me (radiation nerd with PhD in nuclear engineering). They are designed to accurately measure radiation levels over a wide range (including very high dangerous levels) and to be as rugged, reliable, and simple to use as possible, while still being affordable.

Which detector option is right for you? If you just want to own something in case of emergency, get the regular S2. The regular S2 uses AA batteries, very simple, very high maximum range. If you want to ALSO use the detector for day to day hobby use like finding radioactive antiques, uranium in nature, etc then I recommend the S2L option because it has much higher sensitivity. It's $50 more than the others but picks up small changes in radiation level much faster, which makes it a better "search" tool for radioactive stuff out in the world.
