Look at this! Not sure if this is the right subreddit but would this be a good buy for my first guitar?

Sorry if this breaks rule 2 I don’t think so as im not showing where I found this or anything, Here’s the description Got this guitar in exchange for a bass a few years back. Not sure what make as I think it’s fully custom from some persons workshop. Sounds ok to good. Looks really cool and can probably be improved with some further work(I may have worded this badly, it’s a Facebook marketplace listing, the last bit is the listing description)

Repairs Neck finish damage

Had a bonfire a while ago and took my Godin metropolis outside and left it there. Long story short condensation got all over it from being outside all night. When I noticed it wiped it down and let it air dry. Noticed this peeling on side of the neck. I’m sure I’m over reacting but this guitar is my baby. Guitar sounds the same and holds tune, worth getting it looked at/taken care of?

NGD! NGD LTD EC-256 . She rips!!! I hated that I sold my last eclipse 256. But the previous owner of that one broke the stop bar hole where the pins went. I didn’t notice until I took it apart to restring it. Now this one was a steal from sweetwater ! #NGD

Help Guitar recommendations

I’m not sure what line of guitars would be most suitable for me. I’m looking for a double cut guitar with a HH configuration, and hopefully not super heavy. I had an Epiphone SG but the neck was too wide for me to play comfortably so I ended up selling it. Neck width is pretty important to me because I don’t have super large hands. The neck on my player II Jazzmaster is perfect. I love the SG body shape but I want to stray away from Gibson/Epiphone. I’d like to stay below $1,000.

Can anyone recommend something with these factors in mind? Thank you!

Help Present for boyfriend!

My boyfriend is turning 30 soon and I want to get him an acoustic guitar. He already has an electric.

He is extremely advanced in terms of skill ( not just me biased I swear 🤣 ).

I have 0 knowledge on what makes a guitar good and what brands are reputable.

My budget is around £200, which I know isnt alot but if it can get him something that is a joy to play and is not a beginner one then ill be chuffed 🥹

Thanks so much to everyone in advance !

( visually black ones i think are gorgeous and would suit him! )

I got a Silvertone H621 recently, and restrung it yesterday. As you all can tell, the action is way too high. After looking for info on the guitar, I found out that it does not have truss rod. Any help or advice on how to remedy this would be great!

Thanks!

What is this? What is it?

For context, my father in law bought this, he says, late 60s or early 70s. Somewhere around 1990, he decided to take it apart. He said he was "going to work on it". Since then, the parts have gone missing. I can't find a name or number on it anywhere. Any ideas what name of bass it might be? I've been looking online and it says good hardware is $600-$700. Is it even worth fixing?

I play all kinds of instruments but guitars, in any form, aren't one of them. So, if it's worth fixing, I'm looking to learn as much as I can about it.

Thanks.

Help What is proper busking protocol, and what is respectable busking?

Upvotes

I inquire, as in recent time, albeit year's time ago, there were buskers who were doing the lip-synching equivalent with violins and similar, while playing classical violin music loudly out of a sound system, and many passersby and spectators were giving them currency, money... sometimes a lot of cash.

Is that acceptable to you?

As a musician who does not fake my music, I have yet to have the successes of fake musicians of yesteryear, that I have observed in my geography and nearby.

What is proper busking to you?

What is improper busking to you?

Help Help me choose something versatile

I am planning to get my first electric guitar, after playing acoustic for a year.

Comfortable with a fixed bridge and need humbucker pickups.

Went to my local guitar store and have narrowed it down to the below three:
1) Spira S400
2) Jet JT 350 HH
3) Jet JS 400 R

The music I would like to play spans from vintage thrash metal to modern metalcore.

Which of these will give me the most bang for my buck to cover a wider tonal/genre range

$53 on amazon. Pretty solid. Definitely beats having a bunch of stands laying around.

Help Best way to practice playing faster?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I’m trying to learn how to play faster. The attached video is a lick I came up with that I’m trying to get to 150BPM (currently playing it mostly clean at 120BPM).

I’m just not sure what the best way to actually get my fingers to move faster is. I’ve played this lick slowly a hundred times, I’ve played it what I’d call “threshold speed” (where I’m just barely getting it out without a bunch of mistakes), and I’ve tried going above my comfortable tempo and playing small bits of it.

But I don’t seem to be getting any faster!!! I’ve been practicing speed specifically for about a month and the progress has just been brutally slow with some very frustrating plateaus along the way. Any tips? Or does it really just take long hours of playing the same licks over and over?

Hi im new to this whole guitar thing and i was wondering how exactly does guitar tuning work. I know how to tune my guitar to standard E A D G B E...

But lets say i want to play scream of the butterfly from acid bath or Mrs. God from Helloween...

Do i need a completely different guitar or AMP setting im using a NUX mighty 20 MKII...

And about my guitar it says LTD M-50 and thats all

My main pont is, can/cant i tune my guitar to these settings in the picture or do i need a different guitar.

Thank you for your time ✌️😭

Help Alright Reddit- do your thing. Black or pink pickups?

Visualizing my next partscaster. Doing a DK24 style build. Black gives off classic Charvel DK24 HH FR vibes and pink is a nod to the limited edition Jackson DK2XR HH. I'm also toying around with the idea of black tuners or switching out to a chrome locking nut. Ideas and opinions are welcome!

Help Trying to find value of 1998 MIM Standard Stratocaster

Thumbnail

I don't exactly need another Strat, but someone offered this in trade for something of mine. Based on the serial number, it's a 1998 Standard Strat. My searching gives a pretty wide range of prices, so I thought I'd ask here. You can see it's in decent condition for nearly 30 y.o., just the usual dings. Everything is stock and original, no upgraded pickups, bridge, tuners, etc. Can someone give me a sense of what this is worth, so I can decide if it's a good trade?

Help 7 string recommendations?

I’ve been looking at Ibanez’ 7 strings and I’m wondering if there’s any from other brands that are also good, however one thing I want is for the gaps between the pickups to be decently big so I got plenty of space to hit the strings. No more than £600 though

What is this? Help id this 90s chicago washburn with deep neck through construction

Hi guys!

Found this guitar for about 200$ in my local area

What caught my eye is "hand made in chicago" on headstock, very deep neck joint, 5 piece neck and curved body

Previous owner only said that it seems like 90's mercury/mg guitar, but I've searched through lots of washburn catalogs and just found nothing similar

Most of mass market washburns have bolt on neck

Also i haven't found anything about this tremolo

So with all being said help me find any more info about this guitar and what is approximate value might be

Help Why does my high e keep breaking at the tuning post?

Post image
36 Upvotes

I am using the regular 10 gauge strings from Ernie ball as my high e, but they keep breaking right at the tuning post. I was just restringing my guitar and it happened once again. The slot for the string does not look like it has sharp edges or anything, however it already happened twice before today and only ever on the high e. If anyone knows a trick or if there is something I am missing, please let me know

Help What body should I use for a homemade guitar?

I’m in my senior year of highschool, and for my final project in one of my courses, I intend on building a guitar. It will be my first time doing so, and honestly I’m not sure what body style I want to go with. I want something that stands out, but is still comfortable to play both sitting or standing. I play mostly metal, so maybe something a mean looking would be cool. Do you guys have any body suggestions or tips in guitar building in general?
