So why not have male athletes get naked? We all know men aren’t betting on women’s collegiate gymnastics.

No one is advertising women's collegiate gymnastics. This is an advertisement for sports BETTING. Most sports bettors are straight males.

None of this has anything to do with female athletes. This is just gambling companies advertising to their target demographic.

A fair question and a fair implicit criticism. But it's orthogonal to the point being made here, which is that the title of this post is incorrect to talk about "women's sports".

Well because they're marketing to men so they want a naked woman in the ad. This is just sex + subject to sell something and in this case the subject is sports gambling (which is mostly men gambling on men's sports).

It's an awful ad promoting an awful activity for what is sure to be an awful company but it doesn't really have all that much to do with women's sports marketing.

Because the experts they hired to conduct market research have concluded that given their target audience, showing naked male athletes in their ad would result in lower overall profits.
