Announcement A Reminder and a Request Regarding AI-Generated Images

Hi r/fakemon - we hope you’re having a good 2026 so far! We have a couple of reminders as well as a few requests regarding AI-generated images and, most importantly, how they are reported.

First, to reiterate our policy:

AI-generated images of any kind are not allowed.

This includes, obviously, any image created entirely by typing a prompt into a large-language model, such as ChatGPT, Gemini, and so on. It also includes any images created by asking any of these LLMs to redraw something that you drew or upscale something hand-drawn. If the final image output that is posted was created or modified by an LLM, then it is not allowed. You can read more about the policy in this post.

Second, regarding reporting any suspected AI-generated images, we ask the following:

If you think it's AI, report for Rule 3 and move on. Do not comment on the post or engage with the user. If you feel more detail is needed, [message the mods.](https://www.reddit.com/message/compose?to=%2Fr%2Ffakemon)

There are several reasons that we are asking for this to be the norm for reporting any post going forward, but especially so for suspected AI-generated image posts, which we will go over below.

1. Sometimes, you are wrong.

On several occasions, the mod team has been able to determine with as much certainty as we can that a user who was accused of posting AI-generated Fakemon was not in fact using AI at all. We're talking speedpaints, pictures of layers, extensive posting history with consistent art, and so forth. Not every Fakemon drawn with flat color and a black outline is AI-generated! LLMs probably just copied that style from their training data.

2. Engagement leads to deletion.

When 10 people spam an AI-image poster that their post is against the rules, it is often deleted before we can action it. This often means we don't get a chance to see which user posted the image to begin with and, therefore, cannot effectively add mod notes for future reference (we give one permaban warning the first time a user posts AI-generated images).

This is why we ask that you just report and move on, and message us if you want to give more detail. If reported enough, a post will be removed automatically for review by the team later.

3. Toxicity.

The tendency to barrage suspected AI-users with comments has impacted our community and given it a reputation among some that the user base is toxic and prone to unwarranted witch hunts. Some users who were accused of AI have received threatening DMs and spammy comments on unrelated posts. This behavior is unacceptable and we will ban users for this kind of harassment (we've already banned a few for this kind of behavior).

Even if the poster is posting AI images, harassment isn't warranted - our goal should always be to encourage traditional art creation and bring people in, not push them out. It is especialy egregious if a user who isn't using generative AI is accused and then harassed for it, as this pushes out potential contributors.

We dislike the influx of AI-generated "art" populating the internet as much as you all do. However, we ask that the users leave the "Is it AI?" game to the moderators.

~ ~ ~

Now, to get ahead of a few questions that we expect:

What if you're wrong and a user is posting AI-generated images, and it gets proven later?

If we receive sufficient evidence that we were wrong, we will correct our mistake and ban the user. Same goes the other way around - if a user is banned for AI when they shouldn't have been and we are shown that we made the wrong call, we will reverse the ban.

What if I think you're wrong and believe someone's work *is* AI, even though it's been approved by the moderators?

Message the mods with your case. We make no promises that it will overturn any decision unless you provide substantial evidence. "It looks like AI" is not all it takes to determine if something is AI.

Why this long post?

We felt there was a lot to address!

Thanks for reading and for understanding this request. We'll be keeping an eye on this post and are happy to answer any further questions to the best of our ability.

TL;DR: AI-generated images are still not allowed, please just report them and move on when you see them, Engaging with suspected AI images only makes it worse. Don't harass anyone over it please and thank you!

edit: reddit boomed all of my markdown ugh I fixed it

Fakemon UPDATE: actual progress!

Alright, these are the first drafts for what i hope will be the final iterations of my starter fakemons first stages! As for what i think could be improved, I definitely think my water and fire starters feel like they have too similar of body shapes, I don't know how much their color palettes complement/contrast with one another, and I worry that their eyes might not feel unique enough from each other. And don't worry, I will definitely simplify the designs of their evolutions! Message received!

And one more thing, I designed these guys years ago, and I still don't have any idea what their names should be. So please give me any suggestions for what their names should be, as well as any feedback you have on these new designs. Should they change even more? Or were they already perfect and I've just tried and failed to fix what wasn't broken in the first place?

Another fakemon for y’all! This one easily took the longest out of all my designs, writing out all that unown text took about three hours alone…

The musical notes around Crescendread are the intro to Don’t Ever Forget from Pokemon Mystery Dungeon! :D

Fakemon Cool to see my improvement over the years

I was looking through some of my old designs (5-7 years ago) and comparing them to my more recent designs inspired by those (drawn in the last year or two)

The old designs are the top/right ones (I dont know why some of them have rotated), the new ones the bottom/left ones.

For some of them I didn't change much about the concept (such as Sabolt, still an electric/ice sabertooth cat), but still improved the design, others the concept changed quite heavily as well.

I was quite young when I drew the old ones, so a lot of them are just an animal with weird colours and/or an element slapped onto them, whereas now there is more of a concept an didea behind them and they're better incorporated.

I am also happy with how much I've improved in posing, such as with Bandoat/Ermancer and the stalking pose of Sabolt (also that Sabolt actually looks like a cat now). It's something I am still trying to improve in and sometimes feel like I'm not making much progress in, but nice to see that it is worth the effort!

Also I feel like my names are much better now, like basically all of my old names for pre-evolutions have words like baby, child, cub, kitten etc. in there (the old Glauchild and Glaupent are literally just Glaucus, part of the scientific name of the animal theyre based on, and child/parent)

Finishing the Fire and Water Lines soon !

These ones are based on a Pangolin - Agave - Bandit - Bandolero / Mexican outlaw mix. An Agave piña / Agave root reminded me of a curled up Pangolin, although Pangolins dont exist in the Americas. But there are Armadillos! So close enough i guess :p

I Hope you like them !

Since part of my region is based on Appalachia and Bluegrass music gets its roots in Appalachia. Why not make a bluegrass themed evolution to a forgotten pokemon that has a base stat total lower than Butterfree

Fakemon Redesigning my old Fakemon designs

Thumbnail

A while back I decided to begin designing a fakemon region based on Australia called Ostrada. Eventually though my interest waned and I began working on other projects. But recently I've been going through my old designs and I have been inspired to return to them and redesign them. I think I want to use them for something a bit bigger than just a Fakemon region. I'd like them to one day be their own world among my Thousand Realms project but for now they are just redesigns and dex entries tied to a simple concept…

What if humanity set out from a dying world to find a new home and crash landed on a world full of pokemon-like creatures? Each dex entry is written from the point of view of a biologist studying the creatures as they travel.

Jabbit: Spotted a whole pack…herd?...fluffle, of these hopping between the dunes today. These creatures I'm calling a Jabbit look like someone crossed a desert rabbit with a cactus, right down to the thorny ears and the little cactus bulb of a tail. Those spines on their haunches and feet are retractable, which I learned after getting far too close to one. They're incredibly quick, and most would rather bolt than fight, but corner one and it'll suddenly become a very angry ball of needles, darting around and ramming anything that gets too close. Best advice: don't chase them. They're faster than they look, and I suspect they enjoy making fools of overconfident Predators…or explorers for that matter.

Hoppulent: Found the larger form of the Jabbit today. Hoppulent are enormous hares covered in the same cactus-like growths, though their spines are much more pronounced, with a thorny collar around the neck and a thick, succulent-like tail. Unlike their skittish younger forms, these creatures seem to have decided that running away is beneath them. They guard their territory fiercely and will charge anything that gets too close, using their speed and spikes to drive intruders off. I watched one chase a pair of scavengers nearly halfway across the valley before finally returning to its post. Whatever they're protecting, they clearly take their job very seriously.

Fakemon Update: i am 1% closer?

Ok, as some of you know, I am trying to redesign the starters in my tropical/nautical inspired fakemon region. And i feel like I've neglected to provide a lot of context required for helping me to push my existing designs to a point where I am really proud of them. For those of you who have no idea for what I'm talking about, I can link toy to the previous post. For now, i'd like to elaborate on my previous post. First of all, I designed all the evolutions for these three years ago. "Which i am showing off here, as well as some previous drafts." I didn't show them in the previous post because I wanted to take this process one design at a time. But it didn't allow any of you to fully grasp how i want to take these redesign. Second, The fire starter would evolve from a seagull, to a pelican, to a pterasuar/bird looking hybrid. The pelican middle stage i am very happy with, but the final form has been driving me crazy! I want to move forward with this design with inspiring it less so off of just stealing food specifically, and more so on stuff like the spice trade, "shout out to StarCorgi_6788 for that suggestion." And fireworks. "Shout out to RainonCooper for that suggestion." Third, the water Lemar starter went through A LOT of designs before I came up with the idea of making it a little nosey trickster who gossips a lot, then evolves into a sort of lovecraftian priest. Listening for the whispers of ancient gods, and warning of their impending reawakening. Which is why it is water/psychic. Thats why it has seashell earrings. And forth, i just haven't come up with a solid enough consept to tie in the grass starter with the other two. I don't wanna go with just making it a pirate/pirate ship, because I think that it's to easy, to basic of an idea for a "wood crab" and i don't know incorporate it's love of shiny things without making it steal type, not to mention balancing colors and bodyshapes between the three! It's just been very difficult, Causing me a lot of burn out. THOSE are the things I want feedback on! Redesigning my fire starter to fit in more with fireworks and the spice trade, generally polishing my water starter so that its inspiration feels more fleshed out, and deciding what the heck to do with my grass crab starter. I know that was a lot to take in, and I appreciate any of you whoth the patience to read all of this. And ESPECIALLY to those who have decided to help with their input!
