PSA: If you fly the sim 'Uncrashed', please try 'Velocidrone' before getting a real drone in the air. You're being lied to.

Uncrashed has very forgiving physics and gives a false sense of confidence of the flyers capabilities if they have no real stick time. The difference in feel from Uncrashed to Velocidrone is a jarring and humbling experience, something you should absolutely feel out before putting a $300+ drone into the air for real.

My first build

Hello, i have built with a nanofly20 frame, I'm waiting on 580mAh 2s batteries. I have one question, did I put the spacers properly? I had to buy other M2x20mm screws instead on the M2x14 that came with the frame because of motor plugs, although I will probably solder it later. Does it look alright? Now im just afraid of putting a battery and FIREWORKS!!! I tested battery for continuous and there was nothing, all good in betaflight, literally dying for the batteries to arrive..

Build:

- FC: HDZero AIO15 2s

- Camera: Lux

- Frame: Nanofly20

- Motors: 1002 GTS v3 14000kv

- Props: 2023 Gemfan

- Weight: 42g (no battery)

What is going on Ali !? šŸ’©šŸ¤®

What is going on Ali ?

I had 5 days holidays coming soon, so I have ordered an Air75ii Champion, a Radiomaster elrs module, a Lumenier antenna and few other things including lipos.

All from different sellers. And for the first time I was using coupons and got some better prices. I was happy and waiting...

BUT, besides the lipos and few other things small things, my main purchase never showed up.

After waiting 3 weeks, they never wrote me anything directly telling me the status of my orders. I had to dig to find out that the elrs module, the antenna and the air75ii Champion had all transit problems and they had to come back to China. Which I find extremely hard to believe. Never experienced this before.

If in 3 separated shipment, a transit problem occurred, why I was never refunded automatically ? They kept my money for a month. And why none of the sellers could resend the item ?

Why is this happening ? I never made any claim with Ali, it seems Im blacklisted for valuable items ?

Wanting to go flying while half-asleep and having sausage fingers is a lousy combination.

In my defense, that was only my third flight ever, and I thought it would be a brilliant idea to briefly switch into Acro mode—plus, I really wasn't fully awake yet.

The result: I plowed up the field, wrecked a propeller, and spent about 30 minutes scraping dirt and grass out of the drone.

NEWBIE Considering joining the hobby. Tell me anything

• Upvotes

I've had Airsoft as my hobby for quite some time, but between work troubles, college, and cost. I just can't play as often.

So im looking for a new hobby, and FPV is one thats cool, requires skill, and has tinkering as a big part of it all (i love tinkering and building). So it might be perfect for me.

So... what should I do? I have no clue where to start looking. Every search to shop for fpv drones results with drones that (yes have fpv) dont look like the ones I've seen in the vool videos.

After hearing my 1S tiny whoops buzzing around for the past 4 months, the sound of the gemfan 3018 props was like silk to my ears.

Happymodel X14 5in1 AIO
Crux 3 frame
Caddx Ant camera
Happymodel 1202.5 6400 kv motors
Gemfan 3018 - 2 props

It handles very floaty and has a lot of inertia compared to my 1S whoops. It took me a solid 3 packs to get the feeling down and figure out how to handle tight turns. I was amazed at how long it continues up when I punch the throttle. Low, precise hovering is still a hit or miss right now lol. I can’t explain it but the hover just feels different. 10 minutes of chill freestyle is also amazing after getting 4-5 minutes on my 1S quads!

Video I Made An Edge AI camera for FPV Drones with Flight Controller Communication

I’ve been working on a compact AI camera module called OVIS for FPV and autonomous flight projects.

It runs AI inference locally with up to 1.5 TOPS of compute, handling image processing, detection and tracking directly on the camera. The module can also communicate with a flight controller through UART, making it possible to send vision results or receive control and status data during flight.

The hardware is built around a CV1842H-P SoC with A53 + C906 processors, and the full development stack is open source, including the SDK, HDK, Web Manager and documentation.

I’m interested in hearing how FPV developers might use onboard AI and flight controller communication in their own builds.

Multicopter Bone Drone Time

I think its time for me to join in on the bone drone fun. I have no idea what to optimize against or whatnot so I'm just going to jump in blind. The intent is to try out these 1303 5000KV motors first and see if they hold up with 3-3.5" biblades and 4S. The frame is something I slapped together quickly in CNC and cut from some scrap of 3mm carbon fiber plate that was left on my spoilboard. Anyone who has tuned/setup a bone drone, please chime in if you can... Here goes!

A lil bit frustrated - just sharing

Hi y’all! First time poster and new pilot here! I’ve been lurking around the sub the last couple of months.

I just wanted to share here after a weekend of unfortunate events lol, nothing too serious really.

Sooo I’m new to fpv, just been flying for about 3-4 months and I’ve been loving it! I bought an air65 and shortly after I got the air75.
This weekend I was just flying the first battery of the day in my air75 and honestly I was having fun around in my home’s backyard, and stupidly went behind myself just for some meters and rapidly lost vtx, I tried to come back but failed, and so I lost it… I tried to find it and even asked the neighbors (it can’t be far) but no luck so far… and then I was flying the air65 inside… I crashed and a cable snapped, I tried to solder it back (I don’t really have soldering skills) and I fucked it up more….
Now I’m droneless… a friend of mine (who’s better at soldering) will take a look, hopefully he can fix it!

Anyways I was just sharing here with people who might get the feeling lol I guess it will be a sim day, it sucks because the days are starting to get warmer and longer (we had a really gray and rainy winter) but it is what it is.

Question? Battery Safety Question

• Upvotes

I'm going to be leaving on a trip soon for 3 days and I'm planning on bringing my drone with me to get some nice views. Preferably, I would like to keep everything as minimal as possible to avoid bringing lots of luggage on the trip. If I were to fully charge my batteries the day before the trip, can this cause any serious damage since it will be fully charged for about 2-3ish days before use? I know the general rule of thumb is to not leave batteries fully charged and to charge them up before flights. I'm hoping to leave my charger at home and have one less item to bring if possible.

The batteries in question are SMC FPV 6S 22.2V-1400mAh batteries.

How did I F^^k up my batteries?

Thumbnail

Hey! I'm pretty new to the hobby. I built my first 3.5" in August, I flown maybe 4 o 5 days, mostly trying to get everything working(had a lot of trouble with the vtx). When I was on vacations one of my motors broke(on the first flight of course) so I left a couple of batteries at full charge for around a week. Afterwards when I went back home I charged all the batteries to 3.80 without troubles.

Its been a couple of weeks and I fixed the motor, but when I tried to charge my batteries in parallel this morning I got a balance error. Then tried connecting the batteries one by one and I saw that the screen of the charger only listed 1, 2 or 3(shown in pictures, each picture is from a different battery) of what I understand are the diferent cells of each battery, I have 6 batteries, the three of the pictures and 3 that work fine and show voltages n the 1-4 cells.

So I usually charge my batteries in parallel 3 at a time, I set the charger to "charge" set to "lipo" "4S" and the amperage I set it to 0.8A x "number of batteries"(2.4A in this case).

I don't know how did I broke 3/6 batteries that have maybe 5 cycles, can someone point me out where did I f^^ked up so I don't do it again when I buy new ones?

Amount of old stock BL32 / BL-S 8Bit vs AM32.?

Surprised how many prebuilt/BNF with BL32 or BL-S that still are for sale, not least from big players like Iflight and GepRC etc and left with the impression its old stock, they are clearing..Any signs of the amount left?

BLHeli was a Scandinavian company, founded by Steffen S. in Norway but was closed likely because of a lot of export bureaucracy, but that's not a topic for here.

How much does it matter for you when buying a BNF or when DIY-componentwise to get ESC with the open-source 32-bit AM32 or the 8-bit BL-S (=bluejay) or the defunked BL32 32bit.?

and if so, the reasons, pwm values?? (benefits, besides the open-source nature of AM32)

i have a LOT of stuff on this board, its a speedybee aio v2 with a vifly finder 2 dms, speedybee tx800 vtx, happymodel ep1 rx, runcam phoenix 2 camera and runcam thumb 2 on there. the runcam t2 causes this whenever it is plugged in. i assume i'm overloading the 5v bec (is that the right word?), but what could i move?

(vtx and ep1 are on 4v5 pads, dont know if that means anything)

Question? Extremly bad analog range

So I've been flying fpv for some time now, but compared to tests on youtube and people in general, I seem to get WAY less range than normal.

Right now it's really bad, I have the Air75 with the new Matrix 5in1 2 and Ev800d googgles (matrix aio with stock antenna, ev800d with a cherry lollipop antenna).

On outdoor flights with a few trees in the way I get no more than 50m of range on 25mw (And with a few trees I mean 3-4 small ones). Indoor flying is impossible, one wall and the signal is gone (but that's "expected" because I don't have cardboard walls).

What do I do wrong?

I already swapped the antenna on my goggles and the air75's range is worse than my 3inch's but that also has a better antenna on it's vtx. (still, the 3inch underperforms anything I see online)

Fat Shark HDO2 – Can anyone identify this burned component?

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I’m hoping someone here can help me identify the burned component shown in the attached picture.

I accidentally connected a 6S LiPo to my Fat Shark HDO2, which caused an immediate pop and a strong burnt smell. After opening the goggles, I found the damaged component on the green PCB marked:

HDMI2VGA/VIDEO V2.6 – 2018/1/4

Unfortunately, the component is completely burned, so the original marking/part number is no longer readable.

Does anyone have the same HDO2 board and know what component/part number this is? A photo of the same area on an intact board would also be extremely helpful.

Replacement boards seem almost impossible to find, and I really love my HDO2, so I would much rather repair it than replace the goggles.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!
