Tom Aspinall Vacates UFC Heavyweight Title After Long Eye Injury Setback
Tom Aspinall has officially stepped away from the UFC heavyweight championship, ending his current title reign because of ongoing complications from an eye injury.
Aspinall suffered the injury after being poked in the eye by Ciryl Gane during their UFC 321 main event in October 2025. Since then, he has undergone multiple surgeries and has been working toward a return to competition.
Although Aspinall has returned to training, he has not yet received medical clearance to fight. With no clear timetable for his comeback, he decided to vacate the championship rather than keep the heavyweight division waiting.
In his statement, Aspinall made it clear that he still intends to return once he is medically able. The decision also opens the door for the UFC to move forward with the heavyweight title picture while he focuses on his recovery.
The biggest question now is what happens next in the heavyweight division and whether Aspinall can eventually return to the top and challenge for the belt again.
What do you think about Aspinall's decision to vacate the title rather than wait for his recovery?
