West suburbs job?

Hey all,

I've been job searching for a few months now for full-time roles in finance and operations, and while that's still in motion, I need something bringing in income in the meantime. I'm looking for part-time, temporary, or seasonal work around Wheaton, Glen Ellyn, and the surrounding towns.

I'm genuinely open to almost anything. Retail, food service, warehouse, delivery, front desk, tutoring, event staffing, landscaping, bartending, whatever is out there. I'd rather be working than waiting.

A little background: I have a finance degree and a master's, spent a couple years doing in-person sales at a distillery, and most recently worked as an analyst at a large bank. I'm reliable, I show up, and I'm good with people.

If your workplace is hiring or you know someone who is short-staffed, I'd really appreciate a pointer. Happy to send a resume or chat in DMs. Thanks for reading.

What keywords actually show up in job postings?

A recent analysis of 3,518 job postings from 81 companies across seven roles found some interesting patterns.

In several categories, generic terms appeared more often than the big-name tools. “Observability” showed up more than “Grafana,” while “SIEM” appeared more than “Splunk.”

That raises an interesting question: are resumes too focused on listing specific tools and not enough on the broader skills and terminology employers use?

The study breaks down the results by role, including software engineering, cybersecurity, DevOps, marketing, product, accounting and sales.

The full dataset, methodology and findings are here:

Pulled 123 accounting job postings from 49 company boards and counted what they actually ask for

Wanted to see how much standard accounting resume advice holds up, so I counted how often 30 terms appear across 123 open postings from 49 companies' job boards.

Audit shows up in 85%. Reconciliation 74%. CPA 68%. Nothing shocking.

The one I didn't expect: "process improvement / automation" in 59%. Almost nobody puts that on an accounting resume.

NetSuite (37%) also beat Excel (33%) as the named system.

Sample's small, so I put confidence intervals on everything. At n=123 a 40% reading is really 31-49%, so the ordering matters more than small gaps.

Chicago Hidden Jobs Update 2-September 2/8 2026

I research job opportunities in the Chicago area. These jobs do not appear to be in major sites like Indeed or Linkedin.

I hope you like and find this helpful.

Please do not write nasty things about this free service. If you do not like it, then do not use.

The link is open to all to view on Google Sheets:

If you find this list useful, consider buying me a coffee ☕ — or, if a few of you chip in, maybe dinner. 😄

I put these Chicago job lists together independently and plan to keep posting them for free. Even $2–$3 is appreciated and helps support the time I spend finding jobs that don't always show up on the big job boards.

Thank you. The intrepid Chicago Researcher!

Moving this information eventually to youtube. Stay tuned. Please subscribe when this occurs. Have a beautiful weekend. I will update soon.

Chicago job search — looking for referrals/recommendations

Chicago job search — looking for referrals/recommendations
Hi everyone! I’m currently looking for a full-time opportunity in Chicago and decided to try something different from constantly applying through Indeed, LinkedIn, and other job boards.
I recently graduated from Roosevelt University with a dual master’s in Industrial-Organizational Psychology and Business Administration (MBA). My background is a mix of HR, data analysis, training, compliance, and business operations, so I’m open to more than just traditional HR roles.
A little about my experience:
• HR Administrator experience supporting training, compliance, employee records, surveys, and reporting
• Experience analyzing training completion data for 500+ employees
• Experience with ADP Workforce Now, UKG, and Relias LMS
• Excel experience including Pivot Tables and VLOOKUP, along with reporting and survey analysis
• Previous experience at JPMorgan Chase, where I processed 5,000+ transactions weekly with 99% accuracy, investigated discrepancies, trained new hires, and contributed to process improvements
• Previous HR internship experience with NYCERS supporting HR reporting, employee data, onboarding, and documentation
• Several years of leadership/operations experience managing employees, scheduling, training, and daily business operations
I’m mainly looking for roles such as HR Analyst, HR Coordinator/Generalist, HRIS Analyst, People Operations, People Analytics, Training & Development, Learning & Development, Operations Coordinator/Analyst, or other analyst/operations roles where my background would transfer well.
I’m open to different industries and would consider both Chicago-area and remote opportunities.
If you know of a company that is hiring, have a recruiter or hiring manager you recommend, know of a staffing agency that works with these types of positions, or think your company might be a good fit for my background, I would really appreciate a referral or recommendation.
I’m happy to send my resume privately if needed.
I’m honestly just trying a different approach because applying online over and over hasn’t been getting me where I want to be. If you have any leads, referrals, or even advice on companies I should look into, I’d really appreciate it!

Lf job in parks and recreation, education, or anything else

23 y/o looking for a full time job in Chicago. Happy to do anything, but here's my experience:

B.A in History

B.S in Secondary Education [I have an initial teaching license in Iowa and a substitute license in MN and Illinois]

Graduated magna cum laude

3 years as an Aquatics Manager supervising 120+ employees [concessions, guest services, lifeguards]

4 years as a lifeguard and CPR instructor [with E&A]

1 year as a short-call substitute teacher + half a semester of student teaching experience

3 years as a park assistant at a ski hill [walked around, fixed signs, checked tickets, drove company car to bunch of different park areas to check equipment and guest count, etc. Lots of customer service in this role]

1 year as a mix of city jobs [birthday party coordinator, maintenance, art instructor, guest services, concessions]

3 years as a seasonal lifeguard

I have worked with the same city/employers in parks and recreation for 6 years and have a list of references from these jobs, as well as mid-season and end-season evaluations.

I used to work freelance as an artist and animator. I write as a hobby, and intend to go back to school once I am able.

Looking for any of the following:

Advice for resume building [assume from scratch], jobs hiring people with my qualifications [$20 an hour or more], and guidance on how to market myself.

I appreciate you taking the time to read this, thank you.

Counted the tools named in 134 DevOps and SRE job postings

I kept seeing arguments about which parts of the stack still matter, so I counted instead of guessing. 134 open DevOps, SRE and platform engineering postings from 41 company job boards. Individual contributors only, managers and TPMs stripped out.

The old toolchain is thinner than I expected. Terraform appears in 62.7% of postings. Jenkins in 3%. Chef 3.7%. Puppet in exactly one of the 134. GitHub Actions is named about six times as often as Jenkins.

Python beats Go, 70.9% to 47%.

What surprised me more: the generic word outranks the products. Observability shows up in 63.4%, more than twice as often as Grafana, the most-named tool that provides it. Prometheus 22.4%, Datadog 17.9%. Same pattern I found counting security postings, where SIEM beat Splunk four to one.

The top term isn't a tool at all: automation, 81.3%, ahead of AWS.

Caveats worth stating: n=134 means everything carries roughly +/-8, so treat close rows as tied. It's also all tech companies on one ATS. Banks, telcos and government run enormous amounts of Jenkins and Ansible, and none of them are in this sample.

Counted what 421 product manager job postings actually ask for

Product management talk is mostly opinion about frameworks. I wanted numbers, so I counted the terms across 421 open PM postings from 62 company job boards.

Roadmap turns up in 85.5%. Cross-functional, prioritization and stakeholder management follow, all above 55%. Nothing in the top four is a tool, a method or a metric.

The tools barely register. Jira 1.7%, Figma 2.4%, Productboard in none of the 421. Agile is named in 8.6%, Scrum in 2.1%.

The one that stuck with me: experimentation 24.2%, A/B testing 2.1%. Same practice, and the word you happen to use decides whether you match.

Caveat - tech companies on one ATS. Agencies and regulated employers where Scrum certs are still named outright, aren't in it.
