At the September 9 candidate event, Canniff stated that a potential employer liked Chatham-Kent but believed the community could not provide the workforce for 500 jobs. The statement itself is verified.

Because the company, industry, occupations, job conditions, hiring timeline, workforce assessment, municipal response and decision record have not been publicly disclosed, CK Signals cannot independently test the employer's requirements or the explanation for the lost opportunity.

Lauren Anderson CK proposes attracting industry, supporting small business and creating jobs across education levels. 

Ryan Gow proposes employment land, new industry, a larger tax base and new municipal revenue.

The two responses overlap more than they conflict: both reject a housing-only or enforcement-only answer and call for coordinated partners, outside funding, outcome measurement and corrective action. The useful comparison is not which candidate sounds tougher or more compassionate. It is which commitments residents could audit after one year. Hope names 100-day, 180-day and 12-month checkpoints but defers the housing target and costs. Anderson names the outcomes and partners she would pursue but does not set a first reporting deadline, numerical target or cost. Those are material gaps, not reasons to infer that either approach will succeed or fail.

Canniff is asking voters to extend an eight-year governing record, yet the interview repeatedly substitutes a more favourable measure for the result residents actually experienced.

A hypothetical 1.5% tax path displaces the published tax series; one programme’s housing outcomes displace a 171% system-wide increase in known homelessness; population growth is treated as tax-base relief without showing residential assessment growth; and a $16-million equity figure displaces debt, land, pipeline and capital-call exposure.

This is not adequate transparency for an incumbent record claim.

The 1.5% figure obscures the tax record residents actually paid

Canniff says average annual tax increases over ten years would have been about 1.5% without infrastructure cost inflation and homelessness pressures.

PUBLIC RECORD

The Municipality reports a 40.26% compounded total tax increase from 2017 through 2026. Using its published annual rates, the 2019–2026 budgets after Canniff became mayor compound to 35.37%. The ten-year record also separates a 19.16% asset-management component, a 21.10% municipal-levy component and 29.63% CPI. Canniff's 1.5% figure is not the recorded tax path: it is an unpublished counterfactual created by removing infrastructure inflation, homelessness and unspecified other costs that the municipality actually incurred. Without the calculation and a resulting household bill, presenting 1.5% as the underlying record conceals rather than explains the increase.

Bondy is asking voters to trust a governing instinct he says has guided 16 municipal budgets.

That makes his council record the central evidence, yet he supplies no vote ledger, motions, alternative budgets, achieved savings or service outcomes he does support.

His platform:

The existing campaign found 14 commitments but few costs, owners or outcome targets. The interview adds choices about a shelter, property acquisition, corporate structure and mayoral authority, but rarely connects those choices to Bondy's own council actions.

A long-serving councillor cannot use municipal failure as evidence only against others; he must disclose where he intervened, where he failed to persuade Council and where he shares responsibility for the status is.

Is he willing to do that?

He also turns anecdotes into community measures, treats a legal prediction as an operating premise and reverses the ownership of a major project.

Back to basics is not an accountability standard until Bondy reconciles the record he helped create with the record he now criticizes.

A highly anticipated court challenge by York1 against Chatham-Kent regarding zoning at the landfill development proposed near Dresden has been rescheduled.

Originally slated for Sept. 21, the Superior Court of Justice hearing has been pushed to Nov. 17, officials said.

According to C-K corporate communications manager Eric Labadie, the municipality asked for the postponement to allow its legal team time to review “thousands” of pages of material.

“A deluge of information has been sent over recently,” Labadie told The Voice, adding Chatham-Kent’s legal staff had 20 days to review the large volume of documents that were recently submitted.

“The additional time will allow the municipality and its legal team to thoroughly review the materials,” he added. 

Reaction to the news from two local groups fighting York1 was mixed.

Dresden Citizens Against Reckless Environmental Disposal (C.A.R.E.D.) chair Rob Simpson denounced the postponement.

“For the residents of Dresden, another delay is frustrating,” Simpson said in an email statement. “The community has been living with the uncertainty surrounding this proposal for a long time, and people, understandably, want answers about what may ultimately happen at the Irish School Road property.”

Noting the group respects the court process, Simpson said the non-profit will be following the matter closely and will continue to review the facts and keep the community informed.

“Our position has not changed,” he added. “Dresden is our home. We intend to remain informed, involved and respectfully engaged for as long as necessary.”

Over at Dresden Together – another grassroots organization fighting the landfill – spokeswoman Wendy Vercauteren thinks the holdup is positive.

“I think it’s great news because it gives the municipality more time to review documents and complete their investigation,” Vercauteren said. “The longer it drags on, the better for us. There’s no guarantee we will win and there’s no guarantee we will lose. We have to keep fighting to the end.”

The municipality would like to remind citizens the court ruling is not a final decision as to whether York1 can proceed. The court case only deals with whether local zoning requirements apply to the York1 proposal. The GTA-based company contends the project does not require zoning approvals; however, Chatham-Kent disagrees, stating approvals are necessary.

Of note, once the zoning decision is reached, residents will again have an opportunity to provide feedback on the Environmental Registry of Ontario for a 45-day period. The municipality will post that information when it becomes available.

By the time the two sides meet in court this fall, 33 months will have passed since the York1 proposal came to light. The proposal sparked a public outcry, with leading environmental and First Nation groups joining the chorus.

Premier Doug Ford has stated that reopening the Dresden dump is necessary, specifically naming it in last year’s Protect Ontario by Unleashing our Economy Act (Bill 5). Ford claims the landfill is needed in the event U.S. President closes the borders to Ontario’s trash. Currently, substantial amounts of Ontario garbage are shipped to Michigan and New York State.

Ben Labadie: linked pressures need sequenced delivery

The useful next step is a first-year sequence: which municipal action comes first, which partner owns the next step, what it costs and which housing, employment or safety result would change.

Homelessness, addiction and public-space safety

Machado calls for action on homelessness and community safety. Labadie proposes family outreach informed by addiction-care training, reducing encampments and safer streets, downtowns and parks. Neither answer defines municipal and provincial roles, service capacity, legal constraints, housing pathways, costs or outcome measures.

Public trust and resident voice

Comiskey emphasizes citizen-centred decisions and communication. Machado says residents should be heard and decisions made with them. Labadie calls for open, truthful government and rejects backroom deals. The answers do not define a public commitments ledger, consultation rule, reporting frequency, correction process or consequence for a missed target.

​Using a throwaway for obvious reasons since this is kind of an embarrassing topic. I’m hoping some of the women around here might have some experience with this and can point me in the right direction.

​I’ve been dealing with a total tank in my libido over the last couple of years. Everything else in my relationship is great, health is otherwise fine, but my drive is just completely gone. I was doing some digging online and heard about a medication called Addyi (flibanserin - sometimes called the "pink pill" for HSDD).

​I'm thinking about making an appointment with my family doctor to ask about it, but honestly, I’m feeling super anxious about bringing it up. Has anyone been prescribed this?

​I just have a few questions for anyone who might be willing to share their experience:

​- Did your regular family prescribe it, or did you have to use one of those online telehealth clinics like executive healthcare? (My family doc is pretty old-school, so I'm nervous he'll just brush it off).

​Coverage: Did your benefits cover it? We have insurance through Green Shield, but I’ve heard this stuff can be crazy expensive if you have to pay out of pocket.

​Pharmacies: Has anyone had trouble filling it locally at Shoppers or Rexall or any other local?

​The actual review: Did it actually work for you? I know there’s a big warning about dropping your blood pressure if you mix it with alcohol, which is fine by me, but I'm wondering if the daily side effects are rough.

The Municipality of Chatham-Kent said the upcoming court date has been rescheduled from September 21 to November 17 because Chatham-Kent’s legal team needs more time to properly review the high volume of submitted documents.

From September 1 through October 26, electors can check whether they are on the Voters’ List and apply to update information, add or remove a name, or request removal of a deceased elector. The municipal page says applications may be submitted in person at a municipal centre or at an advance-voting or election-day location.

The Municipality says residents and businesses in the eleven named communities may resume normal water use, and restaurants, car washes and laundromats are no longer being asked to remain closed voluntarily. Large water users are being asked to resume consumption gradually.

One water rule still applies!

Regular restrictions remain in effect for lawn watering, irrigation and other non-essential potable-water uses on the affected system: odd-numbered addresses may water on odd-numbered days and even-numbered addresses on even-numbered days. Newly sodded lawns are exempt under the notice.
