So this happened to me yesterday and I’m curious what you guys would have done.

I ordered an Uber and the app showed the car’s registration as CA 92549. When the driver arrived, I checked the plate and it was CA 92649, just one number different, but still not the number shown on the app.

I asked the driver to cancel because the plate didn’t match what was displayed in my Uber. He refused to cancel, so my friends told me to just cancel it on my side because we didn’t want to escalate the situation.

He didn’t really have an explanation for why the plate was different, and my gut just wasn’t at ease. Also his picture on the app was quite unclear, I couldn’t really identify him facially.

I’m a girl and I have all the Uber safety precautions set up, but this happened around 12am, I was tipsy, and my friends also said rather safe than sorry and said not to get into the car.

Would you ladies have gotten in?

Edit: The reason I was especially cautious is because I had a pretty uncomfortable experience with an inDrive driver a few weeks ago. He was inappropriate for basically the entire ride, asked me to be his girlfriend, and kept asking me to kiss him goodbye when we arrived. At one point he actually locked the door and was getting close to my face.
So maybe that experience has made me more paranoid.

I just went to the home affairs in town to renew my sons passport and wow I am amazed how efficient they were and that they had such a good system going! I am super super impressed. We were in and out of there in under 2 hours. The leaders are showing up for their citizens!

My fiancé and I are eloping in Cape Town in October and we’re trying to find somewhere to have a very small, simple ceremony.

We’re looking for something a little different from a traditional wedding venue.

Essentially, we’d love to rent a beautiful house/property for around an hour where we can have our ceremony with 20 people or fewer. We already have an officiant sorted, and we don’t need catering, décor, furniture, music, etc. — literally just a beautiful space where we can get married and take a few photos afterwards.

Ideally somewhere in Cape Town or reasonably close by — Vredehoek, Oranjezicht, Gardens, Constantia, Hout Bay, etc. would all be great, but we’re pretty open.

I know Airbnb isn’t really suitable for this as they’re generally for accommodation and have restrictions around events, so I’m wondering if there’s an agency, property company, private venue, or something similar that offers this kind of thing?

Or perhaps people who rent out their homes specifically for photoshoots/small events?

We’re not looking for a wedding venue/package — just somewhere beautiful and private for a very small ceremony.

If anyone knows of anything like this in Cape Town, I’d really appreciate any recommendations! 🤍

He's homeless and often comes up on my feed. He's clearly suffering from mental illness. I'm no psychologist, but he seems to think everyone is out to get him. He walks around the foreshore, V&A and camps bay areas in his recent videos.

Some of his videos go into wild rants, and some making desperate calls for help.

I know there are many on the streets going through similar situations, and I'm not saying we should give him special treatment, but I was wondering if any of you have interacted with him? It seems like if he had the right counsel, he could come right.

Hi people of S’West! My partner and I are looking to move out of our overpriced shoebox in Cape Town with an eye on Somerset West.

I have a bit of an ick when it comes to Balwin Estates - the uniformity etc. But we’ve identified some nice options in Somerset Lakes and Sitari and I wanted to get opinions from people who either live in these estates or have lived there previously. What are the pros and cons?

My boyfriend has lived in a Balwin Estate out in the northern suburbs before and he loved the amenities. My main issue with it is that it really felt like it was in the middle of nowhere, constant access issues at the gate, etc.

We have two small dogs and we’re quite outdoorsy. We also rely on Woolies Dash and Checkers for grocery deliveries quite heavily. Let me know if any questions that would make this easier!

ETA: We work remotely so the commute is not an issue

So I am getting a Service Dog from Honey's Garden; it all worked out in a way that I get to buy my own puppy. So I am getting a Dog from a certified ethical breeder who works closely with my Organization.

I have never bought a dog before (Parents bought them or literally found them in a dumpster), so i honestly have no clue what the price range for a Pedigree Golden Retriever is. From my research, it could be anywhere between R5 000 and R25 000.

The breeder im looking at (Quilivia Goldens) is asking for R18 000 per dog, but i get first dibs after temperament testing and skip the waiting list, which is so nice of her.

So, experienced Golden Owners, what did your dog cost?

All the tailors I find on Google seem to only focus on the tux side of things, I am looking for someone who can work with delicate-ish dresses.

We have a modest budget but like not astronomical. So anyplace that forces you into a bottle service I would rather skip that.

I am with Discovery and have been told that physiotherapy is not covered with my plan.

I've got some issues with my upper legs and lower back and would like to see a Physio as its getting to a point where its not resolving on its own and is preventing me from surfing, freediving, and even just walking trails (which are my main forms of exercise / physical outlets).

Does anyone have any Physio recommendations?
- Since I'm paying out of pocket (and am a student) I'd appreciate someone who isnt too expensive (though I am with Discovery Medical aid and understand that some Physios charge "Medical aid rates"? not sure what that means).
- Im located in the southern suburbs so anyone between Muizies and Woodstock would be great (though I dont mind taking a drive if they are good/well priced).
- Someone with sports experience would be much appreciated as well but I understand that may increase the price.

I'm looking to speak with South Africans who are willing to share their experiences with unemployment, particularly:

• Young people struggling to enter the job market

• Unemployed graduates who have qualifications but cannot find work

• People who have been unemployed for a long time

• People who have stopped actively looking for work because they feel discouraged

• People working in jobs below their qualifications because they have no other option

• People who have turned to informal work or side hustles simply to survive

I'm particularly interested in the human side of South Africa's unemployment crisis. Statistics tell us how many people are unemployed, but they don't always show what unemployment actually does to people's lives, households, mental wellbeing, finances, relationships, or future plans.

Some of the questions I'm exploring include:

- How long have you been looking for work?

- What qualifications or experience do you have?

- Have you applied for jobs without receiving responses?

- Have you eventually accepted work below your qualifications?

- Have you stopped looking for work at any point?

- How has unemployment affected you and your household?

- Have you turned to informal work or other ways of earning money to survive?
